Why is this thing so expensive? Isnt it just a flashdrive on a cheap motherboard?

Isn't there like a whole emulator + other tools on this thing
I think calling it a flashdrive is selling it short

Because only one person sells it so he can put the price he wants. Deal with or get cheap chinese ripoffs that may damage your console.

its not an emulator, you run the games on the original hardware

yeah, basically. but he's the only retard who makes them so he can charge you 800$ if he wanted to

You make money by selling a thousand things for ten dollars or ten things for a thousand dollars. How many people are in the market for everdrives?

wouldn't android's retroarch completely invalidate this?

I dunno about the N64 specifically but other consoles like the SNES and GBA have very specific cartridge design, it's not a flash drive with an opaque protocol like the DS, it's a ROM that plugs directly into the system bus, that requires much more specific and expensive components, it's why GBA flashcarts never became as cheap as the DS's.

I was...
Until I learned you can't play modded ROMS on it.

Many flashcarts contain an FPGA for some of the discrete cartridge hardware and/or custom code to manage CPU interrupts for menus, compatibility and bypassing piracy checks. They are pretty complicated and Krikzz is a talented, hard working guy that produces excellent carts. In the scheme of things they are not really that expensive. You could buy a Chinese clone but ymmv and it could potentially damage your console putting out weird voltages outside of intended tolerances.

does he even have a production line or does he whip them up in the garage by hand each individually?

>Because only one person sells it so he can put the price he wants.

Good thing it's not something you need to stay alive.

He makes them IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!

There's probably no interest on making clones since no many people are looking for N64 flascarts anyways.

wow it has been a fat minute since I've heard a "HE MADE IT IN A CAVE" joke

It was cheaper at the beginning, when it got more complicated and higher quality it got more expensive.
There's a nes and gb emulator you can use on it.
There's actually 2 others, the chinese knock off and some other expensive i can't remember the name right now.
N64 emulators have always been the worst. Never have been a perfect one.
Which one? Ed64 lets you play any modded rom just fine. I run goldeneyex all the time.
This.

From what I understand, you can*
*but only ones that make minor changes.
So no Super Mario 64: Last Impact or the like.

I understand why, but it's a shame. That would have been cool to play on an actual N64.

>Check what starfox 64 goes for on eBay
>$15
I expected it to be worth at least $30. Are N64 games expensive or what?

Only if they're rare or boxed/mint etc

Anything that was plentiful is still cheap as fuck and with the exception of some ultra rare obscure shit even the "valuable" games like Conker etc can usually be had for 50-100 if you hunt around.

I've been frozen in ice since 2008! I loved that movie, I hope they made a dozen sequels! They're gonna want to keep Robert Downey Jr. around for a long time.

Because economies of scale. It's just one hohol in his basement making the things. Luckily based chinks clone them and you can purchase for much cheaper.

It's too bad Krikzz is a complete cunt though. He releases firmware "updates" that do nothing but intentionally brick clone hardware. And god help you if you have an actual problem with one of his products and try asking on the troubleshooting forum. No one will actually help you, and everyone will just trip over each other to suck off Krikzz and brush aside any problems you may have as your own fault. Not to mention the entire witchhunt mentality of screaming that anyone with a problem must actually be using clone hardware and not the real thing.

Are there any alternatives? I refuse to believe this guy is literally the only person who is making this type of shit.

There are chink clones for a lot of things that are typically about ~half price.

Well it's gotta be in the n64 capabilities obviously. But there are tons of modded games. Look for the ed64 game pack.

its a one time fucking investment get over it you fucking jew
