I mean I'd rather dump a bunch into stam and equip a good QQ bang. QQ bangs work at 4x the effectiveness of clothes so a full 5 arrows on a QQ bang is like 4 pieces of clothing with 5 arrows each. Dumping into stam is useful as you can stop with normal attack at like 75, though blasts go to 124 and then 125 is a point wasted. I still wish they weren't there I hate them but my male saiyan has the stamina of a god damn bull.

Why does Broly look so good in Budokai 3, but looks like shit in other games?

When I was a kid, the anime in my country had only aired up to around the time when Trunks first showed up. This game was my introduction to Cell. He was so cool.

I was playing one of the Budokai's with friends a decade or so ago, they're all relatively big into fighting games AND dragonball. I like dragonball but also happen to be dogshit at fighting games, so usually I'll take a few early turns and accept my role as basically warmup fucking practice for the others.

That's a big hole but I'd assume they wouldn't be affected cause the black star ones are different than the red star ones and not tied to Dende. I'm not sure but I do know Black Star ones scatter across the universe not just earth or namek.

Oh yeah the balls turned blue with black stars but were red. I dunno then but maybe they aren't reliant on Dende, maybe they supply them with their own power. Interesting plot development if the Evil Dragons kidnapped and tried to keep Dende hostage though.

It was, you had Commander Red talking shit at you and then you'd go into random areas for fights and the RNG might sometime have a character you weren't intended to fight invade an you'd fight them instead.

Canonically (in GT anyway) they state it is OozaruxSuper Saiyan, so 500x base. Which isn't even enough to close any gap with Beerus. SSG should have been SS4 and SSGSS should be the scarlet hair version like Gogeta. Shows a better connection to their heritage and it ties back even to DB with Goku being the Monkey King. So instead of SSB vs SS4, it just replaces it.

I didn't play Tenkaichi much so I forget. Did it have a similar set up to Budokai where you only had so many slots for moves/health/etc?

No it had set slots for supers and shit but in 2 (and dumbed down in 3) there were stats and levels. 18's Kiss was the single best item in 2.

by the time Blue was out the single strongest attack in the series was Vegeta's Final Flash on Cell (word of Toriyama) SS4 would be weaker but not a complete stomp

Tenkaichi had freedom, it actually felt like DBZ. You could fly around and spam energy attacks, crash through buildings, and do dragon rush stuff. Budokai series was street fighter with simplified combos and a DBZ skin.

I can get down with that. One thing I liked in Z was that the Saiyans did feel like non-humans from their appetites to their tails and overwhelming strength. Compare Vegeta then to Vegeta now. You could say he's a human and nothing would change. Early Vegeta was unsettling with how he could easily kill most of the cast in a heartbeat if he wanted to. Vegeta today is just that grouchy husband of Bulma's.

Not that I'm taking away from his development but it shows how far he's come.

Which looks pretty, sure, but when you actually look at the gameplay, you're basically getting giant empty spaces to level and do mini-events in and are saddled with a combat system that makes Xenoverse 2 look complex by comparison. It fucking sells on fanservice and little else.

Seeing that, Eighter making an appearance along with Goku fishing, makes me wish they had this game go through the Pilaf saga to end of Freeza saga. It feels weird to have a game named after Goku, when most of his development occurs in the Dragon Ball portion of the story.

I also wished they covered like the Garlic Jr. event [i know its located as the same period as Raditz arrival in an alternative time] before Raditz with Goku exploring his palace, but its def. not gonna happen.

The voice actors and developers weren't as burnt out back then. Dragon Ball games went on a hiatus after Final Bout, so by the time Budokai came out, there was rejuvenated passion, only for it to get sapped away by constant yearly releases. It was starting to get apparent for me by Raging Blast.

It's because it feels like games and products today try too hard to wow you instead of just trying to be what they are. Budokai 1 was a basic recreation of Z's story in its engine, and that made it memorable. You got play through DBZ for the first time. Part of it is nostalgia, but part of it is also games knowing their place and not trying to be some grandiose remembrance of your childhood or some shit, because we already have that.

Did DBFZ try to be overly grandiose or was it also aware of its place? That game reeks of soul, effort put into every single frame to create an amazing experience, but at the same time it's still distinctly Dragon Ball besides the horrible story mode.
I don't think grandiose is a good summary, I think it's more how much the developers tried to create something that feels as true to the product or perhaps its own thing rather than trying to "re-live" something. DBFZ isn't trying to be some reliving of the entire DBZ story except with your own character shoehorned in, it's just a fighting game with Dragon Ball characters, and a shitload of effort put into it.

I'd say a game that also had a lot of soul in it past the PS2 era would be Super Mario Galaxy 1. 2 just noticeably didn't care as much any more, whereas 1 tried to just take Mario on an adventure through space, and put a shitload of effort into making that as refined as possible.

Faulconers music alone is good but its incredibly misused/abused in the english dub. It has not aged well at all, its incredibly obnoxious.

Even alone it's loopy and kind of annoying. Gohan's Anger theme was awesome but if you listen to it now, it sounds like constant repeats of the same thing over and over again.
It's fine when played in the show, but certain tracks like Perfect Cell's theme were abused and spammed to high hell. Look at the Super Vegeta VS Perfect Cell fight as an example, it constantly swaps between a random track and Cell's theme randomly interjecting. Every time they stand still, it plays Cell's theme.

You really shouldn't think your opinions hold any weight. I don't think you have a grasp on his music at all, and you're just using buzzwords because it makes you feel like you know what you're talking about. I can agree, until the game actually starts and past the intro it's all very generic looking. The lobby is AIDS and everything else is generic and bland, lacking any real dragon ball charm to it. It clearly was not focused on trying to present its self at all.
Once the game starts and you see the characters actually move, the intros, and show their stuff, it's all wonderful.

DBFZ's presentation is hard to truly appreciate when nobody uses stock colours. Weird looking Vegetas and Friezas or whoever is so unbelievably jarring.

See my above post too. I wish the game had more alt-costumes and general extra stuff on the side for more flair. The stages are lacking, the menus are lame looking and lack any character, it's certainly flawed in that department.
There are certainly little details that are neat, like reflecting ki blasts going off and destroying stuff in the background, but nothing that most people will generally care about that was already in previous games.

They have the most impact and interest in terms of gameplay when they're something the player works for in a match, rather than simply starting off in SS3 or whatever.
Majin Vegeta in Budokai 3 is a good example. He's a massive powerhouse who can only be gained under certain criteria, which usually requires the player nerf Vegeta by not having Breakthrough or taking up a lot of slots. But when he shows up, he's a high risk high reward instakill machine.
Compare this to just selecting Majin Vegeta and he's just Majin Vegeta.

This is probably explained by the whole S-Cells concept Toriyama came up with. It can probably be assumed that Saiyans who experience more pain and strife in their lives develop a little bit faster as a means of a defense mechanism. Both Goku and Goten didn't face anywhere near as much hardship early into their lives as Gohan did so their S Cells had more time to develop and keep them physically youthful. It's also why U6 Saiyans are a lot shorter than their U7 counterparts.

Tien is the hardest nigga and it makes me upset that outside of FighterZ he's either too weak or his moves suck too much to justify using. I also hate how he actually got featured in Super only for Roshi to steal his recruitment episode, and his "moment" in the ToP was extremely half-assed. Especially egregious when Yamcha got a GOAT filler episode and Krillin got a couple good moments.
