Train everyone in Heavy Armor even if they’re never going to use it, you unlock the single most useful skill in the early and midgame, Wt -3, very easily. That’s effectively 3 extra action speed.

yeah, pretty much. higher bats have the same attack patterns but offer much better stats, like +40 overall where the starter ones are like +10 at lvl5. also heavy armor for -3 weight and probably riding since most masters involve that.

There's a deployment limit of 10, so if you use every student in your house (you should, honestly just save waifus for the other routes), you only need to recruit one other student. That means it's trivial to just spam flowers at them until they ask to join your house.

Yeah, E rank battalions are pretty underwhelming. There's also the fact that most units only need 2-3 skill stats for their classes. And without the weapon triangle, being proficient in 3 weapon types isn't all that important. Not that it was before if it means not being able to excel in one.

Ingrid is intended to be a jack of all trades with her base stats, so it's very easy for her to wind up useless if you get unlucky.

I like to use her, but she's a little underwhelming. Not enough speed to double and can't tank well. She has insane res though, so she can easily deal with mages. So basically a typical pegasus unit without the speed. She still gets canto though, so she still got her uses.

Speed benefits some classes more than others. Some characters Defs are too low to tank anything so dont make them knights.

i think magic is reason or faith, but like i said earlier in my post getting to b support is probably the best way, i think the teachers who hang out in the 2nd floor can teach reason/faith

if you want to build support fast make sure you recruit them during the beginning of the month and just have them do something every single turn if possible during a battle, any action will always give a heart to byleth. alternatively have tea parties, invite them to eat, give gifts, etc

user bring them to B supports and it drastically reduces requirements. Throw gifts at them, eat with them. Lorenz likes roses so grow those in the garden.

My first was in September. I had D+ in bows, 15 str and high C support for Bernadetta. You don't need that much actually.

Does anyone think the academy stuff is kinda boring. Fetch quest aren't super interesting, stuff like tea time is pretty cringe, and the other task in it aren't super involved and rather mindless. Music is also a bit underwhleming. The Flame emperor "twist" was so heavily telegraphed it was almost eye rolling. But the story still isn't fates territory at least.

The problem I have with Fire Emblem almost every game is that the concept of perma-death and the way leveling is so drastic relative to other SRPGs I've played (Lv. 7 units will typically just shrug off anything Lv. 5 or less entirely) really promotes me only ever using less than a handful of units. Why would I ever use anything besides the units that got a headstart early on when anything else risks perma-death and is going to struggle anyway?

I've played a fair amount of SRPGs, some with perma-death, and never had this issue in any other game. It's not an issue in X-com for me because that's designed around starting games over again entirely. It's not an issue in Valkyria for me because units level uniformly as a class rather than as an inidividual unit.

Do what 90% of all FE players do: just restart a map if you lose a unit.
People only really stop doing that on the extreme difficulties because restarting would unto a lot of the work and sometimes losing a certain unit is not worth re-doing everything, if you have enough backups.

well yeah, just use your favorites. its basically the main point of TRPGs: give you tons of units to choose from and make your own squad. hell LUCT give you 60+ units, and at most you can only deploy 12-14. this game give you even fewer, but more varied choices
still, you should invest in them a bit for their paralogue tho, they are fun

Everyone starts at lvl 1, but by default you keep your statue upgrades, battalions, shops, and renown and maybe a few other things, then you can spend renown on bringing skills over from the previous run.

You want to unlock as many classes as possible since the higher tier ones can give you permanent stat boosts but you can still freely swap between them without losing much

ie I gave Bernadette an advanced exam for Paladin and she got like 7 bonus defense from a paltry 8 which she kept all but 1 of when I swapped back to Cavalier, which was the class I had promoted her from

In most FEs thats true, you ideally want to wait til a character is level 20 before promoting them since their level resets back to 1 when you do, so you have a potential of 40 levels to gain which you lose if you promote early.

In this one, your levels don't reset and you go past lvl 20 eventually (the top tier classes require you to be lvl 35 to even unlock). So there's no downside to promoting to a new class as soon as you get it unless you just want to get a class skill first.

The teacher sim stuff is literally the top 3 complaint from players judging from user reviews and internet posts though.

I'm sure there are some people who enjoy it, but many don't.
Personally I wouldn't mind spending more time with my units, but not like this. Koei did a poor job at making the monastery time a worthwile time investment the way they handled it.
During the first playthrough I could stomach it due to the novelty, but now in my second route I'm certainy over it and just wanna keep things going.

And auto teaching is implemented very poorly that I dont even consider it an option.
These things are just not well done. No shame in admitting it. Still a good game.

Why do I keep seeing so much praise for the dub? I ended up switching to it because of the praise but it's really mediocre. The nice thing about the Academy is that it fleshes out characters. Talking to them gives a new tidbit or two about them as a person.
Older FEs, while still good, tend to give you little about characters that aren't the inital 4-5 and a few other important characters leaving you with supports for all of your insight.

I relate a little to your situation cause FFXIV went from a game I enjoyed to something everyone else enjoys but I hate. However, you need to understand that unlike FFXIV, the changes they’ve made to this game aren’t negative or casualization. The game is still a fire emblem game with tons of depth. Furthermore, the teacher sim stuff can be safely skipped or ignored, you have the option to do this. If anything is more of an expanded base of operations from PoR/RD. You should at the very least be able to appreciate it for this. The story interruptions and supports in between battles and missions or no bigger than the usual fire emblem fare. If the exploration stuff bothers you, then don’t do all the optional talking you can do and the lost and found minigame and just focus on spending your activity points using fast travel. Don’t do the fetch quests either. I’ve no idea why instructing bothers you, its just a way to give the player more control over their characters growth, you can let the game do it automatically for you anyway

Character recruitment is based on stats/skills
the typical way besides just grinding out B support is hitting C support with 15/20 of the stat and C/C+ of the skill the character "respects"
This can be a pain in the ass since you have to use time points on riding/flying and getting 15 mag is either grinding byleth through monk or just hitting some absurd level beforehand if rng doesn't favor you putting on your robe and wizard hat

Not him but I disagree on that. And it should be pretty clear why. I mean the red lines, ze warudo, missing weapon triangle to punish bad prep as well as characters wielding multiple weapon types and learning crucial skills pretty much ASAP, paired with grognard AI, certainly do the trick.

Its the FE in which you can do the least wrong by default, making it definitely more casualized.

I'll take a decent dub over sub any day. English voice work has done a lot better than it used to back in the 00s and early 10s, but the japanese voices still have the exact same fucking tones.

Most classes have shit class mastery skills. Like if you use gauntlets getting unarmed from the one class means fuck all because the next brawler class has it as a class skill. Myrm and brigand with vantage/deathblow respectivly are the only class mastery skills you should really shoot for early on.
