FF12 had the exact opposite system. If you chain a bunch of the same enemy, it massively increases the drop rates. This bonus also applied to the first enemy you kill that breaks the chain, meaning you can grind items from a one-of-a-kind enemy by chaining unrelated enemies.
FF12 is an extremely based game in many ways.
