What is it about Oblivion that makes it so much more comfy than Skyrim despite the drastically worse graphics?
What is it about Oblivion that makes it so much more comfy than Skyrim despite the drastically worse graphics?
bump
the vibrant colors
idk if it's always comfier, but chunks of skyrim, including the pictured area are actively not comfy. also oblivion is mostly pastels
Saturation slider up to 11.
nostalgia glasses
i played skyrim first, so it isnt that. oblivion just has a safer, more traditional fantasy setting while skyrim looks like viking european dreary
One thing that I've noticed is how empty the world feels in Oblivion after playing other open world games like Witcher, RDR2, etc.
In Oblivion I felt like going on a journey. I get the same feeling from the tiny but comfy Dragon's Dogma world.
Skyrim looks like what a fantasy artist would create to appeal to the CoD and Gears crowd. Fuck anyone who actually thinks real Scandinavia looks that drab.
I didn't even realize Whiterun was supposed to be a tundra. It looked like a nuclear wasteland.
Graphics do. Oversaturated green fantasy is how things was done for decades. Plus endless fields of very thick grass and trees rhythmically swaying on the wind (and doing it that explicitly) have a very calming, almost hypnotizing effect, unsurprisingly.
The bloom
oblivion is generic fantasy which is comfier
trees were really small in vanilla without the big trees mod
Your pic is not a tundra, retard.
skyrim's tundra looks burned
cope
face it, if oblivion came out today, it would be some obscure eurojank cult game, nobody would have given a shit
Oblivion felt comfy in its cities. Skyrim felt great in the wilds.
>What are seasons
Plus, it wasn't scandinavia. It was northernmost reach of a huge fantasy world. It looked the part. Looks arent the skyrim problem, never were.
South of skyeim looks like north eu in autumn, dont know why you dont believe that, you may argue that russia is a nuclear wasteland too if youre stupid enough but as a russian i find that south look, both in whiterun and especially in that southeast corner i forgot the name of to be very resembling of a real autumn that i see every year, while the rest is covered in snow and well, snow looks line snow.
What you posted are green farmlands. There isnt that much farm land in sweden and especially norway, finns have almost nothing to do with muh vikings and denmark is tiny and in the very south. And they are only green for a relatively short period of time.
In any case thats not how nuclear wasteland looks like, unless you believe that nufallout is how nuclear wasteland looks like.
I like Skyrim
Its not their size, its the thickness of treeline and its animation. Playing oblivion is like looking at that ball swaying left right left right tik tok tik tok.
Did someone plaz Carved Brink mod here? How does it compare to project AHO or any other big quest mod.
not if you also erase every other game that wouldn't exist without oblivion's preexistence
yeah so would be every game release in the early 2000s. Technology changes user
since skyrim came out everyones nostalgia'd over oblivion, yet skyrim sold more. Why is that?
When Elder Scrolls 6 comes out people will say the same things about 6 as they did about Skyrim. Skyrim will become the new "old game good" and Oblivion moves to Daggerfall status. It's a ladder.
Who knows
you could play it on autopilot
micromanaging each piece of armor was shit, but being able to mix parts to look cool was awesome.
>tfw only one arm with armor and shoulder pad, other with netch leather and no pad
Skyrim was the game that cemented Bethesda with normalfags. A lot of people hadn't even heard of the series till Skyrim. That and they have re-released it a gorillion times but the same thing will probably happen with Skyrim on Yea Forums after TES6.
Tundra literally means "barren land". They are rarely colorful.
>Skyrim was the game that cemented Bethesda with normalfags. A lot of people hadn't even heard of the series till Skyrim.
Morrowind did that when it released on consoles. Oblivion sold 10 millions of copies in just a year.
>The term tundra comes through Russian тyндpa (tûndra) from the Kildin Sami word тӯндap (tūndâr) meaning "uplands", "treeless mountain tract"
the same reason people like bloodborn more than DS, it had a more game feel to it rather than being a borderline medieval sandbox simulator
what should i do if I want to play skyrim but i only have the og steam release thats unlisted? or do i have to cough it up for the special edition
>The word tundra comes from the Finnish word "tunturia" which means barren land.
Also you have "treeless mountain tract" right there in your own definition and the biome is defined as a barren area with ground too cold to reliably support vegetation. Please some being a retard and cherry picking dumbshit pictures to try and deflect your sperging over a shit video game.
bright colors are kiddie crap! true mature adults such as myself only prefer earth tones as snow straw, moss, stone, and mud.
Oblivion is just a better game than skyrim, level scaling aside.
it's not like skyrim has a good level system either
perk-only levels ruined skyrim and they ruined fallout 4
Bright colors are great. Generic oversaturated fantasy is not. Kingdom come for example did bright colors real good. Most of the armor, people, buildings etc being really realistic and not overly colorful with only exception being some upper class clothes, didnt really get in the way of making nature amazingly green and lush. In the end you get a great looking and believable setting at the same time.
oblivion was pretty muted. this is bright
High fantasy vs psuedo-realism
colour palette
>the calm music
>the sounds in general
>the paper style menus
>the landscape
Everything in skyrim seems loud and aggressive but I guess that's the point. A lot of the landscape looks dead even in the southern areas. Skyrim can get pretty comfy indoors though.
Also when you level up in oblivion you just get a little icon telling you to take a nap. Skyrim has loud ass chanting even though you just killed a rat in the woods
Looks like shivering isles to me.
Obviously oblivion wasnt as bright as some eurojank or chink mmo, they had money for people who know basics of working with color, it is still on the bright side though, painfully so with the bloom enabled.
i liked it because it was a melting pot of all the different races in the game; given that the imperials were kind of the titular race of oblivion, rather than SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS or the nigra elves. The imperial city was made by ayleids but was filled with everyone, the arena, it just felt like an actually developed world. which is ironic because of how empty alot of the fucking landscape was. That didn't make me hate it though, it kind of left alot of space for mods to be implemented and made it slightly more exciting to encounter shit while you were in that empty ass area.
i also liked the armor in oblivion more, or at least the lower level tiers. imperial guard armor looked considerably better and more protective than the armor the imperials in skyrim wore. also the spellcrafting system was fucking gold. Id make like 10 enhance attribute (speed) spells and cast them all at once using the pause menu to fucking fly off into the distance.
Skyrim's colour pallet is like vomit. Whereas Oblivion's is all saturated and bloom. Oblivion's music is comfier too, not that Skyrim's is bad.
What are some good content mods for Oblivion?
Im so glad they ran out of funding and didnt release this game as the mmo it was intended to be
Personally,i think the worst thing about skyrims leveling is the legendaryification of skill tree's making it where you can just get every skill and not have any kind of theme to what you are doing. And alot of perks just dont really mean much anyways. Certain ones just fknt matter at all but then some are mandatory to have in general.
It was a pleasure to explore oblivion.
Oblivion is actually well written. That's basically it.
art style
the colours in Oblivion are almost like a painting, even though the world was mostly empty, it was still very beautiful to traverse, and the incredible music helped too
I spent so much time camping in shitty snowy forests during my military service that playing Skyrim just makes me uncomfortable
I think he's talking about gen y normies who buy iPhones and watch rick and morty. Sure Morrowind and Oblivion were popular, but Skyrim was on another level. Suddenly every faggot amd his dog loved TES.
finland?
its not a fucking tundra, fuck snow levels and cold regions in games.
Let me guess, you spent much of your life living somewhere cold.
Real RPG mechanics, your skill points and main attributes actually matter. Your custom class is actually a custom class you design yourself and no 'YoU CaN bE aNyThInG YoU WaNt' perk tree that makes you master of everything superman by level 15.
A lot of the quest lines actually have some substance to them, decisions and rewards/consequences based on how you handle some quests.
Guild questlines in particular were way better. Mages guild and DB had great questlines, Thieves guild wasn't bad either. While in Skyrim you become arch mage of mages guild after 20 minutes of fetch quests and the thieves guild lets you join even if you're already in the DB (goes against the lore, something Oblivion respected) and they even let you join the guild if you fuck up the initiation test for "good effort"
not really, if you count London or Tokyo as snowy places.
snowy mountains as one area of the game is cool but skyrim is a huge snowy level and it gets boring so fast.
youtu.be
Redpill me on Skyblivion.
Will it ever come out?
It seems really comfy.
it has actual colors and the music is relaxing, when you aren't around falkreath or riften skyrim almost feels like a wasteland with its washed out colors and rocky terrain everywhere
>i liked it because it was a melting pot of all the different races in the game
but they didn't have any unique culture whatsoever. Everyone in the entire province was the same.
>Real RPG mechanics, your skill points and main attributes actually matter. Your custom class is actually a custom class you design yourself and no 'YoU CaN bE aNyThInG YoU WaNt' perk tree that makes you master of everything superman by level 15.
the problem in Skyrim is the opposite one IMO, by not having major skills which get boosted early your character is completely useless for the first ~15 levels or so
Never. Same as Skywind. Eternal development hell before the project gets dropped.
Yes
>your character is completely useless for the first ~15 levels or so
lol. No. Try Morrowind and see how that works out.
Isn't there another team working on a Cyrodiil mod for Skyrim?
>first dungeon
NPC literally walks you through the "match stone figure to picture on wall" puzzle
>first dragon fight at level 3
dragon scripted to fly around and land in front of you and do nothing while you slash at it.
Yeah, Beyond Skyrim, but I don't trust modders on writting, BS:Bruma was pretty lame.
oblivion is saturated, skyrim follows the late 200s trend of drab grey and washed out colors
even skyrim's most southern region was meant to be a taiga which is relatively pretty fucking north irl
Well you're basically echoing my sentiment when Morrowind came out, and then again when Oblivion came out, so I guess I don't feel the difference.
>comfy
explain what you mean
you didn't have shit like this for morrowind
kotaku.com
the music
I've never played Skyrim despite the 2 billion re-releases of it.
Is unironically worth picking up since the special edition on sale on Steam?
Why hasn't Bethesda done a Morrowind reboot? People clearly love the game
how much is it?
It’s not really a good game, but it’s an alright fantasy hiking and mods simulator. For mods, the original version is better.
I'm an Ausfag so it's coming up as 20 bucks right now, don't know what it's coming up for everyone else.
just pirate it beth doesn't deserve your money after 76
>nostalgia glasses
I played Skyrim first. Oblivion is more cartoon-like. Skyrim is more realistic but then the body shapes, outfits and animations are a bit sloppy and in a way that is far less charming than in Oblivion.
doesn't the original's base assets still look worse than SE, even with mods?
Oblivion's map is more fun to traverse and well-designed. Very distinct zones centred around the capital city.
It's grungier and much more dingy than Oblivion. That can be comfy too but the rest of the game isn't harsh enough to make coming home to a hovel feel cozy.
>buying skyrim
honestly if you really want to play sex mods or see how empty and soulless it is just pirate it. After FO4 they made it clear they will be pushing out streamlined babby shit for money and won't be releasing a real RPG ever again. They're up there with EA and Ubisoft now.
fuck the special edition. try and get the legendary edition (original release with all dlc's from steam.) it's way better for modding
i got a steam key off g2a last year when i rebuilt my pc. didn't feel like pirating it this time, superstition says the mods will work better if it's legit.
>sex mods
does special edition even come with the original release?
>not buying Skyrim several times
>i also liked the armor in oblivion more, or at least the lower level tiers. imperial guard armor looked considerably better and more protective than the armor the imperials in skyrim wore.
Most of the armor in Oblivion looks much more wearable. A lot of Skyrim armor looks like you wouldn't actually be able to move in it.
>also the spellcrafting system was fucking gold.
Pretty much everything involving stats was downgraded in Skyrim.
art is more cartoony
I already have the og release without the dlc's sigh
also was wondering this
Gaming magazines were nearly as retarded.
>nigra elves
jumping off the topic of color
skyrim really only scratched the surface at showing things like race/class disparity or the fact the province was in civil war. it's a god damn shame bethesda will only continue to downgrade on these topics. one of the best parts about the game isn't even playing it, it's using your imagination to daydream about the world when you're not.
this isn't to say bethesda doesn't put a lot of work into their games. i once came across a shack by a creek and thought it was just a boggy abandoned hut, but was pleasantly surprised to find it inhabited by a couple a mudcrab fishermen. they were super chill and made my journey a little more exciting. (i don't think it was a mod).
Colour Palette being brighter and giving the whole game a very fairy tale feeling
Also being a fairly better game helps in that, too
your nostalgia goggles.
I personally cant play oblivion without mods because its so fucking soulless.
Yet, Oblivions Combat system is far superior to that of Skyrim.
but Skyirm at least tried to have something resembling an artstyle again.
for me, morrowind is peak comfy.
listen guy. all the screenshots of SE i've seen look just like LE but with 2k textures and some shaders slapped on their.
spend some time modding your game. make it your own personal thing, that's what bethesda games are best for anyway. my game crashes at seemingly random times (i blame the shitty engine and generally poor optimization of the dev side for not being able to handle my plugins so i learned to mash f5) but hot damn the game is breathtaking at times, i don't even use shaders (cuz i'm retarded and broke it once).
blackreach, the underground dwarven city the size of ingame whiterun, is absolutely my favorite place in game. with a lighting mod and a darker nights mod, the place was pitch dark and the only thing lighting my way were the giant ass glowing mushrooms. i spent hours exploring every inch of the fucking place.
Oblivion had more varied environments. It was generic european fantasty, but you still noticed a shift between areas. You had the coast to the west, snowcap mountains to the North, Swamps to the south, and hilly fields to the east. Locations in Oblivion were just a lot more memorable too. Skyrim has some neat environments, but I don't think they really use them well.
This. Also you're fucking dumb if you didn't fix the colors to your own liking.
It's the land.
Ok hear me out. So Oblivion used an engine to simulate erosion and a naturalistic landscape, whereas Skyrim was handcrafted.
In turn the biomes flow much more nicely and you get the genuine feeling of walking through the woods because your brain is subconsciously familiar with the eb and flow of a real landscape.
The color palette isn't awful, and on top of that Oblivion has a very safe generic fantasy. All of that just leads it to be extra comfy.
Skyrim world is a series of set pieces tied together. Its like when you see the ruins on top of the mountain from Riverrun. It shatters the illusion of scale and it always feels small.
Oblivion on the other hand is just forest. It is also quite unremarkable geographically, which makes it both more realistic and gives it a bigger sense of scale and inmersion.
The most popular answet would be Nehrim, but that's a total conversion made by a large German team, it's pretty much its own game and not related to TES.
The Lost Spires is a pretty long, voiced questline.
this
Knights of the Nine Revelations is probably the best quest mod the game has.
This is objectivity wrong. I'm played Skyrim first, then Oblivion. Enjoyed Oblivion's atmosphere way more, except oblivion gates fuck that.
one of these days i'll get around to playing morrowind.
Music
Oblivion has maximum SOULE
Oblivion feels more like a fairy tale world. It's bright and colorful. Society seems to be pretty prosperous. The Empire is united. It feels like a world you might want to live in. Skyrim is much more grim and gritty. The colors aren't as bright. Society is going through hard times, with religious persecution, a civil war tearing one province apart, and the looming threat of the Thalmor hanging over everyone's heads. The land is fractured; all but three of the provinces have left the Empire, and one of those three is in dispute. It's not a time or place you'd want to live in. And I might be misremembering this, but I think Skyrim generally felt less magical than Oblivion.
console/pc gaming got mainstream and a lot bigger in last decade than it was before
Todd doesn't even need words to tell lies. He can also do it with screenshots.
Tons of normies bought Skyrim because it reminded them of Game of Thrones.
At least generic oversaturated fantasy is still fantasy, as opposed to the boring real world.
it's still a whole lot more vibrant than skyrim
Only if you're trying to be a master of everything. If you stick to a theme, you won't have that problem. Well, unless your chosen theme is "Destruction mage".
It would require much more work than adding some bigger textures and a piss filter.
I fucking WISH London was a snowy place, we haven't had proper snow here since 2011
I'm sick of the fucking immigrants and chavs worshipping the sun
This.
Towns being bigger than 3 tents
Worse graphics that were used properly, making it a better looking game.
Your long gone childhood
Oblivion has that bloom that was prevalent at the time and hated, but for some reason it just works in this game and makes it comfy
Skyrim is a terrible game.
>Real time buggy dialogue
>90% of locations are just full of Viking Zombies
>Dragons have a very high spawn rate and just become annoying gnats that constantly appear and follow you forever and they can't even land on uneven terrain, so enjoy getting blasted with breath attacks from the sky
>Muh radiant quests
>Weapons look like fucking toys and make WoW weapons look good
>Magic has no INT stat to scale from so it is total garbage
>Sneak is broken and overpowered just like in every shitty Beth game
>Smithing and Enchanting are broken and overpowered
>Werewolf and Vampire forms are trash and pointless
>Khajiit and Argonian helmets
>Combat is somehow even shittier than Oblivion
>The entire fucking plot of Dawnguard and that unkillable vampire cunt
Most overrated game of all time.
Better ost
youtube.com
oblivion graphics just have this charm that makes even just walking or riding around the world really hypnotizing
this
also the shivering isles dlc and better pron mods
If Oblivion didn't have the potato faces because todd let his novice friend make them it would be considered the best TES game of all time.
I dont know I have grown to like the potato faces and the silly voicelines it just makes the game alot more fun
Everything about this is true. But you forgot:
>almost all magic is an annoying charge thing that you need to release and the only constant DPS destruction spell is the level 0 spell you start with
>mind control magic has splash damage that sends physics objects flying
>A level 100 alchemist doesn't know the effects of any ingredied without stuffing each one into his mouth
>Echantments literally cannot exist because the only way to enchant anything is to disenchant something else
>Dragons breathe sustained beams of fire. Dragonborn coughs a tiny bit of flame.
I did played a different Oblivion?
Even Enderal felt far more comfy than Skyrim
It's wonderful.
>almost all magic is an annoying charge thing that you need to release
Not him, but I actually liked that about Skyrim. It made aiming easier.
Is there some ENB/Weather mod that makes Skyrim's color palette more like Oblivion's?
Skyrim should've been more like this.
Not that I have any idea what Skyrim is really like in the lore, but snow in vidya is underrated.
>post pic of fjället
thats because the altitude is so high that few things grow except for shrubs and very thin birch trees, the rest of scandiniva doesnt look like that at all
>I played skyrim first
Dumb zoomer
>fjället
fuck did you just call me?
Enderal is the best Elder Scrolls game, hell it might be better than Morrowind.
>it might be better than Morrowind.
I highly doubt it, is it really that good?
Some people might like Enderal more than Morrowind, sure.
It has a really good feel, I don't know how to describe it. The world feels like it breathes. It's spooky and pretty and even depressing at times.
It's great, good world building decent voice acting. I highly recommend it if you already own Skyrim.
I can’t describe it. The trees, the meadows, the deer frocking...lots of other games have these, but not like oblivion
ABILITY TO MOD SO I CAN PLAY AS A THICK AS FUCK VAMPIRE GOTH WHOSE ASS JIGGLES WHEN I FLY AROUND AND KILL PEOPLE
>SKYRIM ONLY
The decision is clear.
commit die
RPGs are all about the managing that shit but yeah preach brother should of stayed the same for each game
>skyblivion/wind
>no alchemy gear (not to mention how much alchemy sucks in subsequent games after morr. I mean fuck, I need to be a master alchemist to USE all ingredient's properties? Fuck off)
>no quality lockpicks (fuck bobby pins)
>no attributes
>no spears
>no spellmaking
>no pillow and book forts
>no acrobatics to fall safely from any height
And many more. I honestly don't know why people bother with it.
kys cumbrain
Oblivion has SOUL.
It's a shame that after playing the game for a few hours every creature ceases to exist apart from minotaur lords, ogres and xivilai.
If the world was unlevelled like Morrowind's or a hybrid of the two like Skyrim's I'd have no problem playing it vanilla even today.
That is nowhere near 11.
You, virgins:
>Hm... the lore says on the fifth solastice of the lunar calendar King Ludendorf was in the Imperial City... but this clearly contradicts this book in the other part of the game... this is very interesting... I am a fucking loser....
Me:
>Ah, yes time to stare at ass in Skyrim for a little bit then get back to my life. Maybe I'll play a game whose story isn't retarded and boring.
You can get a mod that fixes that. I enjoy vanilla oblivion, but I can hardly play it without the mod that fixes level scaling.
same,
still what keeps me from playing oblivion is that skyrim is just easier to mod, and i lost my old modded oblivion and don't want to go trought it again..
based, that was my previous build
>hurr Durr oblivion is saturated Skyrim looks realistic.
You absolute basement dwellers. The only way you could actually believe this is if you don't step outside more than once a week to get more tendies.
it's fun, but mods are a must and melee combat sucks
>colourful mosses and low growing shrubs aren't vegetation
Okay retard.
What are the most up to date graphical mods for Skyrim in 2019?
I feel so lost at the thousands of mod options on nexus
Lichens but yes, tundra is colourful sometimes
I'm aware of there being mods that fix the issue, but if I install one mod I'll end up going on a spree and before I know it I'm at 250 plugins, hunting for the cause of that one conflict causing ctds.
The music
They don't deserve my money after Fallout 3.
the jump from morrowind to oblivion was more tremendous than the jump from oblivion to skyrim, and playing oblivion for the first time was signifigantly more memorable because you were younger and more impressionable. These good feels have been sticking with you.
Not that guy, but I'm older than you and just never bothered with TES series at all. Skyrim was the first one I ever heard buzz about and even then I didn't bother playing it until I saw how active the modding scene was. And to be perfectly honest, while I'm not surprised to hear that Oblivion or Morrowind are considered better games by many, they'd have to be a fucking LOT better than Skyrim for me to bother with them.
I tried a mod to remove snow from Skyrim. Did not do the job.
I'd say Skyrim lacks apparent variety in its scenery. You see too much of the same things, while oblivion has bigger woods, more colors, more unique places.
Morrowind's world-building and lore are a head and shoulders above most RPGs ever made. It's actually original fantasy stuff rather than the generic Lord of the Rings -lite that you usually get.
I doubt you'd have the patience to play enough of it to discover any of that, though.
Story and most quests sucks ass, but it's a great game for exploring
At least the Elder Scrolls world has lore. They are less pathetic than lore autists for Zelda or Dark Souls who headcanon 90% of it anyway.
what money?
Oblivion lulls you into a sense of security and wonder, making you feel like the next thing is going to be neat
Skyrim just rips your heart out and stomps on it telling you that this is the best (of the trash) you'll be getting
after the next release we'll have the same do-over
Bullshit. It isn't. Oblivion is still the fucking worst, even Skyrim is better.
>Morrowind's world-building and lore are a head and shoulders above most RPGs ever made
I can believe that, but:
>I doubt you'd have the patience to play enough of it to discover any of that, though.
Is the gameplay and actual content (dungeons/enemies/etc) any good or is it on the same level of garbage as Skyrim?
If I only care about fantasy lore, I'll read a fantasy novel. A game needs to have good gameplay first and foremost.
you're faggy nostalgia taste
Like I said, you've not the patience for it. In Morrowind the shitty gameplay was worth putting up with. In Skyrim it wasn't. You're not an Elder Scrolls fan so you should stay away from them.
>Location : Chzacrzyzyzwezyszczywosczyzeske powiealitew lekeolowskowksiczyski
fucking third world monkeys
It sounds much better in the original Klingon
Markarth is the best city in Skyrim, despite being one of the most un-Nordlike cities in the game
>tremendous
tremendously terrible.
>Story and most quests sucks ass, but it's a great game for exploring
It feels like it should be a great game for exploring. Watching a huge nordic ruin come into focus is kind of cool, and makes you wonder what kind of surprises lie within. Climbing the Throat of the World is cool with that Tibetan-like greybeard monastary at the top.
The problem with Skyrim is that the dungeons are all painfully samey typically with only minor loot variations (different ores, different alchemy shit, and a different word wall). Oh another generic castle with necromancers. Now this one has bandits. Oh it's another nordic ruin with bandits on upper levels and draugr on lower levels. Blackreach is kind of cool but even Dwarven Ruins get samey after awhile. Nothing is made distinctive by gameplay, just maybe some (often trite) lore or quest context.
>look! The texture artist used the in-house font replacer to put cool secret codes on their clothing!
While it's a nice feature, it's not groundbreaking.
Zelda does that. Warframe does that. Fucking Andrew Hussie did that.
look how washed out and dry your screenshot looks, only 14 year olds think this looks good
the colors

you're not the god chosen one savior of the universe
It's okay if you buy it at
This. There's nothing special about Morrowind. It's one of the worst games ever made.
video games in general over the last 10 years became pretty normalfag friendly, consoles have also never sold better, the market grew
Can you name a single aspect of the game that isn't done better somewhere else?
Never coming out.
Y-yes t-t-odd
>>Location : Chzacrzyzyzwezyszczywosczyzeske powiealitew lekeolowskowksiczyski
It's a reference to a Polish film. You dumb fucking nigger.
No, I've not played every game in existence.
But it does most things quite well, certainly better than the standard at the time.
It certainly is not one of the worst games ever made.
GoT started before skyrim???
Skyrim released 11-11-2011
Oblivishit is worse than Shitrim
The Polish
>I've heard of todd and his Honeyed words
Because it actually has depth.
lol no it doesn't
If by "lore" you mean just stealing Roman history and replacing all the names. They even went as far as to model Septims after real Emperors like Pelagius being Caligula on steroids.
Yes. Roman history.
Yes it does, the graphics of oblivion have more depth and world building behind them. Skyrim is barren and empty and the graphics are terribly utilized.
They are making huge progress.
Saying that the main quest is fully playable, and posting regular assets updates on Discord.
You nay sayers will see.
Over saturated colors and easily read emotions in the NPC faces that placate your autism.
>want to install and replay Oblivion
>ATF is down
THE SECURITY IN WHITERUN IS TERRIBLE
isn't skyrim way better for loli mods any way?
Probably, the thing is I never tried Oblivion with loli mods, so I really wanted to give it a shot. Fucking kiwifarms faggots.
Kiwifarms are responsible? I'm not keeping up with the ATF fiasco.
Soundtrack, more vibrant colours, and generally more inviting architecture.
At a stretch I also find the simpler NPCs and greater emphasis on player homes/resource gathering for alchemy kinda gives me a very distant harvest moon feeling. Going through the woods and finding a pocket of rare plants and then heading home to brew them is a very mundane task that feels weirdly immersive.
They have a thread about it, it might also be the reason why sadpanda went down, since apparently they shared the same server host.
>If by "lore" you mean just stealing Roman history and replacing all the names.
Basing lore on history events is better than just pulling it from your ass. And the point with that quote is that a game like Zelda literally isn't intended to have lore be taken seriously, it's just theming for the fairy tale kingdom and kiddie story. Elder Scrolls is at least supposed to be immersive feel like a real alternate world.
>micromanaging each piece of armor was shit,
Yeah well fuck your opinion. I like having CHOICES and VARIETY in my ROLE PLAYING games.
>Time is a flat circle.
I suppose "armor pieces" counts hields as an armor piece.
Also this doesn't account for the fact that you can wear clothes under your armor in morrowind, as well as over it (robes). Which would bring the total count of armor pieces to 16 total (7 clothes)
Who gives a shit, they're both awful games.
>went from this to caveman grunts
youtube.com
>I roleplay as a man wearing one red and one blue pauldron
>This is a different experience from playing a man with two blue
Yes, exactly.
>are a head and shoulders above most RPGs ever made
lmao, shame the way you talk to the wikipedia articles, oh sorry I mean NPCs, means it's worse than every one of them.
how so?
it's just a whole different style/tone that reflects the province the game is set in and its ideals/values. for instance if you look at skyrim, set in the land of the war-like and tough nords, the game's style and play reflects that, more combat focused and grittier/more rustic. it makes sense in this way that morrowind has a mystical/other-worldly feel and more magic focus, set in a land of sorcerers, and oblivion is set in the cosmopolitan seat of civilisation so it figures that it's more quaint, that and the game has a more romantic/noble feel to it that reflects the imperial culture probably.
aside from that, all the elder scrolls games are basically the same story told differently.
>Morrowind's world-building and lore are a head and shoulders above most RPGs ever made
Same can be said about Skyrim and even Oblivion, but retards here will never admit it.
Oblivion really is one of the worst looking games of all time.
100% the idle music. I can listen to any of the songs that play in the overworld and immediately be taken back to specific places and moments in Oblivion. Skyrim's music is good as well but the tone it sets isn't nearly as distinct or memorable.
I installed enb for oblivion and while it looks good, my character now has translucent arms. What do?
"dude these shitty dungeons are 90% of the content bro!"
"but i dont enjoy going into these cookie cutter dungeons"
"bro why did you even buy the game then?"
"i thought it was going to have interesting stuff in the ambiance like oblivion"
oblivion had soul
skyrim felt like it started with soul but it turned corporate
Wear some sleeves
kurwa
ah, so oblivion was more soul than corporate. makes sense.
Music
Greenery/Lushness
scenery
terrain
story
felt closer to a RPG than Skeetrim
its really telling in how corporate skyrim became when you start to realize how corporate every damn dungeon looks
>not finding strolling through bruma in the evening beautiful
I liked the oblivion gates.
yeah i did find some of the dungeons a bit corporate, but i found the mountains more corporate.
Soundtrack mostly
Oblivion towns feel warm and safe because Ayleid ruins are actually creepy, Oblivion gates are dark and menacing. The town AI is obviously retarded but is like paper dolls, charming and you can actually mess around with it (and there are quests that involve messing around with it).
Skyrim's world is colder and the AI is worse/less interactive, but it is just flat-out bigger and the dungeons are much more expansive, so with mods the feeling of being an adventurer in a big world is pretty comfy.
Your use of the word corporate is corporate.
>i was that guy who couldnt find the path up to bleak falls barrow so i jumped up the sides of the ledges until i eventually got to the top
>did this on multiple characters before a friend showed me where the path was
the mountains in the northern snows definitely fit in better than the southern ones which felt really cookie cutter
it was great for its time but aged like milk, i would stick with skyrim
Skyrim remastered makes it look better, but only when it's daytime, feels nice to have an actual blue sky rather than fallout 3 engine repurposed. That said both Skyrim and Oblivion are limited in their immersion with non killable people and non breakable or divergent quests, Skyrim has the on the road encounters that are sorely missing from oblivion and morrowind (save for a few encounters)
>Basing lore on history events is better than just pulling it from your ass.
Not him but I really can't agree.
>finally get All Natural and Immersive Interiors to work
I’m gonna be comfy lads. What are some other comfy mods?
>colours
>music
>setting (except oblivion, the worst part about oblivion...)
>strangely innocent but intense characters
>oblivion dialouge
its just so comfy bros
I need to fire up the ps3 again
Can't do anything, it's a bug in ENB.
This a thousand times.
I don't know how they did it but its just god like.
Skyrim his shit because its about the nords and their country is a shit whole compared to the capital of the empire.
Oblivion has a decently consistent and unique art style while Skyrim just used photorealistic jpegs for textures.
I've been saying this for such a long time. So many games just go for DUUUDE REALISM which looks great for its time but looks incredibly dated and jarring after just a few years. Meanwhile games with consistent and unique art styles instead of hyper realism textures look fantastic to this day, like Wind Waker, Team Fotress 2, etc.
meant to respond to the OP sorry
no worries bud
What is the best overhaul mod for Oblivion? I prefer a deadlier and more difficult environment, but not just fucking damage sponges like Oblivion has. I liked the Requiem mod for Skyrim, it made the world really deadly but it wasn't annoying or tedious. pic not related
>I mean fuck, I need to be a master alchemist to USE all ingredient's properties? Fuck off
Only Oblivion does that. In Skyrim, potions will always have all the properties of their ingredients. Higher alchemy skill makes potions more effective, and there are perks to remove harmful effects from healing/buff potions and remove positive effects from poisons.
>no spears
>no spellmaking
I think there are some mods that have made progress on these, but they haven't been perfected yet.
Even at higher levels, Oblivion still has far more creature variety than Skyrim does.
Watching this series disintegrate has been so fucking depressing.
>MW shits all over our expectations
>If I only care about fantasy lore, I'll read a fantasy novel. A game needs to have good gameplay first and foremost.
This, although I'd say story is equally important in an RPG. Lore is great, but lore isn't the same thing as story, and that's where I think all the TES games leave much to be desired. I play RPGs to get involved in the story, not to read a bunch of lore about stuff that has no effect on anything I'm doing, and certainly not to spend hours reading the game's wiki pages in order to decode the precise hidden meaning of some text on a sash.
>If by "lore" you mean just stealing Roman history and replacing all the names.
Hey! That's not fair!
They also stole Hindu and Buddhist metaphysics!
Yeah, it sure is fun exploring going through dwemer ruins and draugur crypts to get an orc battle axe with a random enchant on it.

>The series premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011
Yeah, GoT came out first.
Let's not pretend oblivion isn't worst with epic 8 gold rewards for clearing a dungeon
At least you can fix both games with mods
