There probably wasn't, but there is a good chance some content was cut since we only have one MH spirit and the music was in it's own section internally in the game and not in the "other" section.

Capcom has already talked in the past about how, in crossovers, they prefer to represent Monster Hunter as a franchise with monsters and other elements of the games, rather than the hunters themselves. Granted their stance on that may have changed what with a hunter being playable in MVC:I, but I get the distinct vibe that - if a playable MH character was considered for Smash - they would have been in at launch right along with the Rathalos, rather than added later.

I think a third Capcom rep in general wouldn't be too surprising though - I just don't think a Monster Hunter character is in the pipeline.

At least one of them is bound to be Byleth.

Only makes sense for them to add RE as a fighter now. Then you have the 4 main pillars of capcom

Leon or Jill (or possibly even both with one as an echo of the other) feels like a valid, possible pick since RE continues to be such a popular series and there aren't any survival-horror reps in Smash - plus the obvious tie-in possibilities with that lengthy segment during the E3 direct where they showed off virtually all the RE games coming to Switch, etc.

Crash is a more dangerous pick, not least because the addition of Banjo already feels like a general representation of that same distinct era of 3D cartoon animal mascot platformers, so they very much fit into the same niche. That doesn't make Crash impossible, but it makes him less likely.

They said that about the Hunter, nothing about the series mascot the Palico.

They would never add Banjo when it would disqualify Crash. The latter is infinitely more wanted

It sucks ass that our king got shafted, and might not be in the game at all for years to come, but you all need to have hope.

Mother 3 needs an official western release first.

I think a monster added as a fighter would be pretty neat. I could imagine Tigrex, Brachydios, Gore Magala, or Nargacuga as a fighter

They could even go the Monster Hunter Stories route and put the player from Stories riding a Rathalos as a fighter

Not only did they show off the RE ports, but they also gave it its own weird live action segment that lasted longer than it honestly should have. As much as I want Phoenix, I’m prepared to play as and enjoy whatever Capcom rep is thrown at us, though it is most likely Leon/Jill.

Agreed. I've said this before in a previous thread I think, but Porky's complete absence from Ultimate, as well as the absence of an impressive amount of Porky related spirits (even Giygas and Giegue are absent despite being the main villains of the first two games) implies something greater than Smash content. The question of a Mother 3 localization or even a remake or reboot of the series isn't a question of if, but when.

What I'm trying to say is, Porky is in, and Mother is coming to America on a scale never seen before.
I also heard a theory that Porky was scrapped during development when the game released, if anyone knows anything about that let me know.
