The gameplay heavily relied on all your movement options, including peeking, in order to avoid guard routes. in MGS1 the gameplay was fucking awful for a variety of reasons and neither the fixed nor TPS camera for 3 really worked in that environment.

What said. As a Metal Gear game it's pretty dumb, but if you don't give a fuck about the series then it's a great hack n' slash title with fun mechanics and a decent amount of replay value.
Also, FlatOut 2 is the only good game in the series. FlatOut 1 was okay (but not good), Ultimate Carnage was a mediocre remaster of 2 that nobody asked for, and 3 and 4 shouldn't even fucking exist.
