I swear 2016 doom had weakpoints on the enemies. Not talking about Pinkies or Spectres either - I am certain it atleast felt like some enemies took more damage when hit in specific spots: revenants from the back of their jetpack and cacodemons in their eye or when you hit them with their mouth open, specifically.
Also I'm sure you could also stagger demons by hitting them during certain animations, such as the mancubi and hellknights

You clearly dont know anything about engines.
There is nothing at all wrong with engines like UE4. It's in fact one of the best engines out there.
However with your own engine you can tailor make it so it perfectly suits your needs.
There are a metric fuckton of genres and types of games idtech would suck major dick at. UE4 is an engine that does most things really well. The biggest weakness with it is how behind they are in terms of 2D support (with sprites) compared to Unity.
Unity is also a great engine to develop for if you want to make porting easier.

NuuM's platforming was total bullshit with invisible walls sometimes existing and sometimes not, sometimes preventing you from dying, sometimes preventing you from grabbing the ledge. Making punishing platforming in FPS is bullshit. Teleporting chasms are better than both "hardcore" platforming (like Forges in Amid Evil) and NuuM 2016 platforming. Especially when you have only checkpoints with no proper manual saves.
When you fall to death trying to find a secret it's usually not because you failed platforming but because you jumped somewhere expecting to find a secret (like elevator shaft with Gauss in Nuum) but there's nothing there. Autists who actually care about secrets just jump from every cliff and reload (even if from checkpoint from 5 minutes before) and free respawn after fall removes the extra routine. Those who don't care about secrets and aren't retarded are safe from falling to death anyway.

It disables enemy item drops, makes glory kills much rarer, gives you a siphon grenade at the start of the game to counter the increased difficulty from the lack of glory kills, and improves weapons in various ways. It's cool, my only problem with it is that it doubles the chaingun damage. The chaingun needed a damage boost, but doubling it makes it really OP. Also, only start new save files with mods installed. When I loaded an old save with mods, then disabled the mod, the file was corrupted.

Is ROE worth playing? I played through Doom 3 and it was okay. I'm not really feeling a desire to play more, but it looks like ROE is more interesting than the base game.

Combat Engineer never made it out of Hell after the boss fight. He died inside of Hell. He also was absorbing the fuck out of the Hear of Hell he was carrying. The Heart probably used that entire scenario of a second invasion into the Doom 3 universe to select its own champion to kill Doomguy.

It's a so-so game. It plays just like D3 but less jumpscares and more run and gun with your own Berserker power up you have to charge up.

It's fine until they start just spawning 8 revenants in a tiny room and expect you to just spam their "i win" button of an artifact through half the later encounters. You charge your artifact through regular dead bodies and there's at least one for every encounter, and the artifact ends any non-boss encounter. It's cheap.

At least it actually ends in Hell, unlike the base game that has you go there and then just gets bored and spits you back out. And actually has a Super Shotgun, unlike the base game. But if you don't want "more Doom 3", then nah.

I still think the game is going to be good but I have some concerns
-Marty and Hugo are still talking about "arenas" meaning that players are still being kept in specific areas because consoles can't handle keeping resources in memory and processing extra AIs that the player has potentially bypassed instead of destroying
-Players are still getting "points" and they're being used to select upgrades for weapon mods. Nobody liked having to hop through menus in Doom4 and you couldn't even do it during an unskippable VEGA babbling segment because the weapon menu pauses the game.
-Chaingun looks like absolute shit
-Enemy damage modeling makes them look weak and pathetic

Doom 3 had a pretty similar story to the first Doom, in fact; both have the Mars base running experiments into teleportation tech, only to wind up opening portals to hell.

Where Doom 3 differs is the existence of Betruger, the mad scientist who has secretly sold his soul to Hell and betrayed humanity for power.

I don't get the hate for the "killrooms" in the new Doom. Obviously memory and processing have nothing to do with it, since the levels themselves are fucking huge. The arenas are there to make the gameplay more intense by taking away from the player the ability to simply escape combat. This worked great in Painkiller and works great in D44M.

Strongly disagree. This is by far my favorite feature of the new game. Not only it makes you feel like the damage you're doing has some real impact on the enemy by providing the satisfying visual feedback, but it also has gameplay effect, crippling enemies and disabling their most dangerous attacks.

Well, Doom 3 takes place on Mars, while Ultimate Doom takes place on Phobos, Deimos, Hell, and Earth.

...Now I'm betting somebody is going to put out a Doom mod that replaces him with a pissed off, gun-toting, armor-clad female anthro rabbit, in "homage" of Daisy.

Well I have no personal issue with it, I just understand the problem others have with it. Sure, you don't really want to escape the demons in a Doom game, you're there to kill every single one of them. But even though in practice you do just kill them all and move on, in principle that should be your own choice. If you really want to get the worst score you should be able to run past combat engagements like in the earlier games.
And it is memory and processing related. When you can keep the player from returning to areas and when you can despawn all the demons from those areas you can save a lot of resources. The part of the level you left doesn't need to exist at all nor do any of the demons there.

I like it when it happens like... a couple of times throughout the game, and it's taken to absurd lengths. Just wave after wave as a real test of the player's endurance and abilities.

As a regular kind of encounter, though? Kinda lame compared to just putting some dudes in a room and letting you find them.

Should it really? Your enemies are demons after all, and have no intentions of just letting you stroll by. And from gameplay perspective, killing demons IS what the game is. Skipping combat just to get from point A to point B to progress the "story" is just not Doom. If you want to skip the gameplay, you might as well just skip the game entirely.

That's what I always say to the speedrunners but I understand their argument in principle. A choice is always a choice, even if you personally always choose one way, which is to kill demons. I wouldn't be skipping the Doom gameplay in a Doom game but I'm not going to pretend that the complete inability to do that isn't just a technical compromise caused by a multiplatform launch optimized for the worst platform that compromises all versions.
