Fucking Sony.

haha so true

>everyone uses abxy
>sony: EEECKSSS TRYNGLEW SQUAAARR CIRCLOWO

Reminder that only jannies can still blank post

What were they thinking?
>let's get jannies to delete shitposts
>let's also give them the ability to shitpost more effectively

Xbox got it right
X is on the X axis, Y is on the Y axis

yeah, its called distinguishing your brand

>Pizza Box, Whole Pizza, Pizza Slice, No Pizza

you mean Xbox

Shit I'm ordering pizza.

Is this really a problem? Do people not memorize where 1 out of 4 buttons are on these controllers? I get not being accustomed to consoles they don't play, but you just need to glance at one of these controllers for a second just once to understand how it's layed out.

Imagine thinking anything other than PlayStation being the objectively correct X.

DUDE AWESOME POST UPBOATEDD I AM LE EPICKX LAUGHING XD

>Americans

No I mean Sony.

Sony one came out 2nd out of those 4.

as mostly a sony player, when I play Switch I have a really really hard time, it feels so unnatural how confirm is on the right, instead of the bottom. In BotW I am fucking constantly canceling menus by mistkae.

>not Italians

You should try playing nip games on PS.

>Pizza box
>Uncut pizza
>Cut pizza
>Pizza slice

If Sony had copied Nintendo's layout, MS likely would've too and we wouldn't have this bullshit

snes also has x on the x axis and y on the y axis

You mean GC, right?

i always get annoyed that the japanese x and y placement is different from western because of how they read things in the opposite order. playstation's object scheme works best, since each button indicates their use. except X, since the fucking western games decide to use it as a confirm and a circle as cancel. it's like no one can fucking get it consistent everywhere.

>ecks
its cross you fucking idiot

I play my PS4 so sporadically I don't think I remember the button layout besides "X on bottom." Circle and Square really fuck with me, I keep thinking they're in the opposite place.

I can USE it just fine, without any mistakes, but occasionally it fucks with me.

It's one letter. A single. fucking letter. There is no instance in a game where this is a problem. Even if you press the wrong button once and mix it up it shouldn't be over and over

Gamecube all the way
The A button is orgasmic to press

>europoor

>The North American model of the PlayStation controller is roughly 10% larger than the Japanese model, to account for the fact the average person in the region has significantly larger hands than the average Japanese person.

You mean SEGA. Look at the dreamcast controller.

This kind of shit makes it impossible for me to do well in Mario Party mini games on the 3DS. It also makes Auron's overdrives in FFX take too long because Playstation and Gamecube's superior layout is what is embedded in my mind.

Same here. I know X = bottom, Triangle = top, but even right this second, I would just be guessing whether circle is on the left or square it. I play it a good bit, too - I think it's because I play Nintendo and PC more.

I have no idea what an X being called a cross by Sony has to do with Europe. Are you confusing it with Z-ee and Z-ed?

manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps4/settings/crossbutton.html
from the manual itself, btw not even european

SEETHING

>Sony says it's how it's pronounced so that's how it's pronounced

I bet you say jif too, faggot.

I fucking love pizza.

People bring up GameCube controllers here but that's the only one that never gave me any problems because it's so different from the other ones. The only trouble it gives me is sometimes I get X and Y confused, but that has nothing to do with other controllers and just with Smash having both do the same thing.

>not having muscle memory for that particular action without even acknowledging the button

i bet this person looks at the keyboard when they type

no, because the keyboard doesn't fucking switch layouts
let's see how tough you are when you get one of those french keyboards

>literally the least console war possible
>FUCKING SONY REEEEEEEEEEEEE
Good Lord man. Get some fucking help.

Playstation has the most iconic layout
AXBY is generic and soulless

Yea Forums died a long time ago didn't it.

OwO

imagine being so fat you look at controllers and see food

Yes. I have a Ps4 and a switch, and I use an Xbox controller for my PC. You never get used to switching between the three (although the bigger issue than OP's is Nintendo putting their fucking confirm button on the right instead of where everyone else puts it).

To remember, I use the phrase "sqaured the circle" to remember square is on left

It's people that don't own the consoles themselves and play party games with their friends on unfamiliar controllers. Irrelevant for most games and gamers.

This is unironically the best controller for Smash, bar none.

>person creates something
>someone asks what it is
>its the cross button
>NO YOU FUCKING IDIOT YOU DONT KNOW ANYTHING ITS THE X BUTTON FUCKING IDIOT
i think the creator of something knows what its called dumbass

>cross
You mean fork?

Aren't snoy buttons copyrighted or something?

>i think the creator of something knows what its called dumbass
The creator didn't write that manual. Find me a ps1 era manual that calls it cross, they just printed the icon on it.

microshit and nintoddIer corp: soulless
sony: SOUL

OwO?

>Is this really a problem? Do people not memorize where 1 out of 4 buttons are on these controllers?

Yes, it is a problem for patricians who own every console and play on all of them regularly. Of course a worthless shitnugget who only owns one console could just memorize its layout, but a true nigga would have to memorize 20 layouts.

Growing up with this, I should theoretically be most at home with the Xbox one, but weirdly I get confused with it and not with Nintendo's.

Attached: mega.png (1000x750, 917K)

It's a problem because confirm/cancel is often switched in positions.
If every game had a unified control scheme like:
face-button-down is confirm,
face-button-right is cancel,
face-button-left is secondary-action, and
face-button-up is quick-menu,
all these button prompt mix ups wouldn't be an issue.

Console war babbies should be culled

Why X and Y?
I've always wondered

standard math variables are A,B,C and X,Y,Z

wait wtf

I guess that makes sense

Standardized controls would eventually be limiting.

Yep. It may look retarded, but it is the best button layout period.

this guy gets it

the game companies all want you to "press x" but what does that imply?

well, a vagina does not look like an x but an anus does a bit more

what is the meaning behind this?

it's to prevent too many births. anal does not procreate while vagina does

taking this a step further and you realize that anal is mandatory where a vagina is not present at all, ie; gay sex between men

so this is quite a subliminal message for us gaymers, I'd say

Gaym on!

sony's layout was fine. circle for confirm and x/cross for cancel lined up with nintendo's a and b.
microsoft was the one that decided to copy the abxy but scramble it around for no reason.

Its annoying when a game gets ported to PC and they don't fix the control layout.
>Press X
>not sure if its ps4 X or xbox X
>hit the wrong one
>game over

It's a problem when I use dualshock 4 and get xbox button prompts so I have to spam every button because i never used xbox controller in my entire life and have no idea where's Y.

heh

>port's tutorial asks you to push X
>press ps4 X
>"No, dummy, X!"
>fine, xbox X
>"I said X!"
>press ...keyboard X?
>"Good. Now that we've got that out of the way, we're using the controller, so ignore that X over there."

>microsoft
>was the one that decided to copy the abxy but scramble it around for no reason.
God, I fucking hate zoomers.

user, you feeling okay?

alright, here's a (you).

Nobody ever called it cross, though.

I think things like "press B to jump" are more iconic than anything in Playstation

Just press the blue one. Honestly...

not on Dreamcast

Why XYBA?
Why those letters?

Attached: D718BB0E-25DA-4E9B-B620-9ED680F9D7AC.jpg (750x1000, 35K)

stop falling for it

I have legitimately never had this problem, not one single time in the history of me playing video games, and I've been playing them since the NES.

I honest to god don't understand how it's so difficult to not have the layout of the buttons instantly and immediately memorized.

At first it was just "AB" because those are the first letters of the alphabet so of course those are the designations for the first buttons
When XY were added latter, you have to wonder why they weren't "CD", or even the entire opposite side of the spectrum "YZ"
"XY" was probably picked because of their common use in mathematics as variables, but why that won out over either of the above suggestions is probably just "because someone felt like it at the time"

If you want to suffer, trying playing Dragon's Dogma Switch on Gamecube controller. It's pretty shitty.

Unless you actually have multiple systems and actually play them, yes it's extremely easy to fuck up button placements. My friends cannot understand the Xbox/Nintendo layout so I tell them the PlayStation layout so they know what to push without looking at the controls

It's not even the letters that fuck me

It's the cancel/confirm being in different spots

it is a bit disorienting when you play project diva on the vita then move over to playing project mirai on the 3DS straight away

I could not get past the character creation part of Dark Souls on the Switch. Controls are just too awkward for me.

>each of the main face buttons is a different shape
Why the fuck has no one implemented this? It's fucking brilliant.

>tumblr

It’s only a problem for people who don’t really play video games often or extensively. As someone who regularly switches between different consoles it’s become a total non issue for me. Even using the same controller across multiple emulated consoles - no issue. It’s just something you have to ingrain in your mind

And yet Sony has won four gens in a row. So who had it right here?

and N64 has the Z on the Z-axis

360 controller was almost the best. If only it had better sticks that don't wear out and a d-pad. Also would be better if it had a built in rechargable battery like DS3. Fuck they almost did it Microsoft.

How is missing two crucial features almost the best?

Well no other controller did it better than the 360 controller is why. I love the design but damn every controller I ever got the sticks wore out eventually and didn't even take a year for them to get warped pretty bad. My DS3 and even Dreamcast controller sticks still are fine though. As for that dpad, well its perhaps the worst one of all time for 360.

The layout is perfection. If you get a modified 360 controller with that improved its the best you could do.
