The japanese release was 100% localized already, but they left the it to rot for an entire year until the american release. Not only that, they decide to release it in on one busiest months of the year full of AAA games, game had complete SHIT servers, bayonetta was taken from the normal rooster and turned into DLC, and to top that, the characters were extremely unbalanced but Platinum never had a chance to patch the broken game due to lack of money.
Great potential, great soundtrack, wasted because Sega is ruled by a bunch of fucking morons that decided to take a piss at platinum.

Gundam VS I'd say doesn't count as its predominantly a team affair. Virtual-On is a bizzare case where you could argue it is an arena fighter but it plays far more uniquely to any other due to its emphasis on cancels and high speed that you could regard it in a league of its own. When I say Kill la Kill IF is better than the arena fighters coming out, I personally refer to the shit ones Bamco makes. It's hard to convince people though between the high price tag and the initial appearance but you can do some decent stuff in terms of combo variety, nothing on the level of a proper 2D fighter but at the very least more than the likes of MHA or Jump Force.

Yeah, it is sadly pretty light. Story is four hours long and other than MP stuff the only modes are a generic survival mode and the COVERS challenge types. As for the dodging, yeah it's a bit weird so I don't use it much unless a very obvious attack is coming. Guarding and the Anti-Air melee usually work well enough. The biggest issue I had were story missions involving multiple enemies because they didn't put in a way to actually change targets so when a Nonon is in the fray she'll just spam her giant laser and you can't do shit about it.

Learn how to read your opponent and play neutral. Learn how to anti-air attempts to homing dash at you. Learn how to combo into wall splats. Don't use your burst every five seconds, meter is big damage

Any tips on playing neutral with Gamagoori or Nui? I try to build up Gamagoori's Regalia to set myself up but I keep getting read then immediately guardbroken before I can do anything, and Nui's grounded attacks feel like they come out too slow for me to react when they do try things.

All the shit you missed when playing as Satsuki including Senketsu noting the flow of time being warped and Ryuko seeming way stronger than normal, Nui introducing herself to Ryuko declaring if she gave up her humanity it'd make her stronger before teasing to go to the festival, Ryuko needing to beat the shit out of the elite four and Satsuki at the behest of Iori who gathered all of Senketsu's pieces so they can be freed from Ragyo's mind stitching, Satsuki going unconscious in power up form but still fighting due to the false world basically having her in an impossible to lose state, making Ryuko the only one capable of it as she's an anomaly in that world, and Ryuko pulling the shit the primordial life fibers did and getting Senektsu Kisaragi by absorbing fibers from multiple timelines which lets her defeat and strip Satsuki so she can tell her at the end how to stop all this.
You also play her initial fight against the Elite Four which is a pain in the ass endurance battle as well as when Ryuko first takes a swing at the Primordial Life Fiber and when she fought Nui with the Elite Four. Ryuko ends up killing Nui because she tried disguising herself as Mako after that fight and Ryuko saw through it because Mako usually has drool on her face when she wakes up

Pretty sure it has to do with ArcSys's art direction. Supposedly shading and everything else is manually done for every angle/every frame and is really labor intensive. I imagine most of their work went into doing the battle animations. This is also why getting alternate costumes is not likely
