2 has way better audiologs and that's really what I'm here for

Only the remake matters now.

I'm looking forward to it but sometimes the devs can be really retarded
>flechette gun is now a shotgun because it looked like a shotgun and always acted like what so what is the difference
that made no sense

Of course 2 was shit, it was designed by a Jew who thinks video games are just interactive movies. The level design is so clearly structured to present the story to you, whereas the citadel station actually feels more or less like a legitimate place that you need to explore, with the story unraveling through the atmosphere more than anything else.

Attached: image.jpg (512x512, 127K)

i dont relly like audiologs
they dont brake the flow of the gameplay, but i cant focus on them while there is multiple shit flying at me and exploding bots approaching and my gun is almost broken and i have to get psi heal because im about to die and there is nowhere to hide in this corridor so i have to run far away, but there is another exploding robot approaching, so idk

>the flashette gun, the gun that was basically a dart smg, is now a shotgun
excuse me?

It makes more sense when you realize the devs never actually played SS1, and were only ever interested in making a game based on SS2 and everything that came after it (especially Dead Space).

They googled flechette and found all the results for shotgun ammo, so assumed that was the type of gun it was.

Someone redpill me on the remake, sounds like it's going to be a disaster

They failed to nail down the scope of their project before asking for money, confused everyone, then ran out of money trying to figure out what to do. Now they're going to provide the minimum deliverable, which is some sort of remake that is unlikely to make everyone happy.

The Von Braun is pretty good, probably the best part of the game. The Rickenbacker isn't all that great, kind of shitty compared to the Von Braun. The Body of Many part was cool though.

But it's looking good after the got their shit together.

youtube.com/watch?v=rmaSGyFQwt8

It is the case when 1>2 and 2>1 at the same time.

Systemshock 1 is one of those games where being a suicide bomber is a legit tactic.

Maybe, it depends on the kind of game you're going for. SS is more of a dungeon crawler in a sci-fi setting, SS2 is a full-on immersive sim.

That's a whole bunch of horseshit you just posted, you clearly have never touched either of these games.

they already retracted that statement. they just want to do a full on remake now

yes
no
better than vegas but equal to 2

I remember someone posted here a screeshot showing that shodan was a nigress now or somthing like that, what that just a shitpost or is it true?

That's System Shock 3, made by the devs who also made Underworld Ascendant.

That's SS3 and a super early model of her.

>with the story unraveling through the atmosphere more than anything else.
If you said this about System Shock 2 then you would be correct but 1, you are retarded. There is more story telling through the atmosphere and environment then all of SS1. SS1 was a dungeon crawler in space with no rpg elements, while SS2 was a rpg horror game. Stop acting like a dumb contrarian and realize that SS1 and SS2 can't be compared because they are two completely different games.

Attached: 1559853269744.gif (160x160, 157K)

>made by the devs who also made Underworld Ascendant
No, they are different dev teams.

>Not liking 90s-era cyberspace.
shit taste

>now it's just a 1 for 1 remake
It's back to being much closer to the original now, but definitely not 1:1. The level design is pretty damn close, but everything else they seem to want to change. The impression I get is they still want to shove SS1 into a SS2/Bioshock shaped hole rather than follow the original.

>No, they are different dev teams.
Still fucking sceptical about it.

How high(low) are your expectations for SS3?

I disagree OP, but I really love SS1.
Mastering the game is immensely rewarding, more so than in its sequel.

See
very low

Low.

it feels great...

Attached: 038d0f4icef.png (672x777, 312K)

Basically zero. Trotting out Shodan for a third time feels like an admission that they have no original ideas and just want to cash in the reputation of the series and its villain.

Based

>played Thief for the first time a little while ago
>really liked the missions where you have to raid tombs/ruins and avoid monsters
>turns out everyone hates those missions
I just want an immersive, first person Indiana Jones game.

Attached: squid.jpg (500x500, 28K)

Don't forget that they want to reveal SHODANS complex motives and they're already sure it's gonna piss some people off.

Attached: shit_.jpg (474x520, 32K)

she was actually fighting the patriarchy the whole time?

So, evil corporation forcing a women into a subservient role? Bonus points if they retcon Shodan into an actual human who had her mind (forcibly) uploaded into a computer because writers are incapable of writing actual AI characters.

>retcon Shodan into an actual human who had her mind (forcibly) uploaded into a computer
I can already see this hacks putting that in the game thinking it's going to be an ''awesome plot twist''

Attached: 07089780.png (500x416, 105K)

>shodan infects a human at the end of ss2
>retcon her to be an actual human
Whut?

They mean that the writers will make shodan's back story into "She was a female worker for trioptimum but she was forced to be turned into an AI which became shodan" type of thing..

First half of SS2 > SS1 > Second half of SS2

Attached: 1560150865348.png (148x138, 27K)

But that would be retarded then, because SHODAN is aware that she's an AI which leads her to seeing humans as mere insects and acts superior towards the race.

>Second half of SS2
You mean the body of the many.
After that it's fucking great again.

Yeah, thaths the point the other anons were making. They believe it will have shit writing, hence that idea. Its like the back story for Glados from portal. Thats why they have low expectations for SS3.

At the very least the remake will be better than SS3, considering the devs who made this money laundering scheme are behind 3.

Attached: underworld ascendant.jpg (1920x1080, 313K)

Yes.
But, 2 is my personal favorite.

You clearly never played either game.

same publisher, different dev team

I don't want to live to see SHODAN turn into Glados.

Attached: 1559093261586.jpg (395x358, 14K)

I love system shock 1 so much. I want to play a game like it again so badly. Prey was pretty good, but mostly just because theres just nothing else in the genre to play. No hope for the remake or the sequel. I hope monomyth will be good

Fuck off damage control shill, otherside is developing both. And you're kidding yourself if you think offices within a developer do not share tech, talent, or leadership. Either that or you massively underestimate exactly how big of a disaster ascendant is.

Pic related.

I disagree, although I'd say it just comes down to personal taste with these ones.

Thief I is more of an action adventure game with stealth elements and has a lot more varied missions and better atmosphere, whereas Thief II is a much more dedicated stealth game rather than going through abandoned ruins with zombies.

Fallout 1 is a lot more tightly paced, with a better narrative and villain, but it lacks the QoL and improved gameplay system of 2. It also just has a lot less to do in it.

Attached: 38468-metroid-prime-2-echoes-gamecube-front-cover.jpg (800x1118, 240K)

there are multiple dev teams within otherside. I don't doubt that the game will be shit but that was just false information that the people who made ascendant will be making system shock

>false information that the people who made ascendant will be making system shock

Because they are. Any dev that was ever on UA is working on SS3 now. They're going to be sharing the same tech stack. The people at the top giving the OK to UA are the same people at the top giving the OK to SS3. Having multiple offices just means you have multiple offices, not that everyone is working on an entirely different project.

>monomyth
What game is that one?

Too bad. Turning AIs into humans is the only way to make them 'relatable'.

why?

Potentially what UA should've been. It's being made by one guy in his spare time and previews already look way better than the release version of that game.

>And you're kidding yourself if you think offices within a developer do not share tech, talent, or leadership
Daikatana and Deus Ex were made under the the parent company by different dev teams, with one becoming one of the most famous games of all time, while the other became one of the most infamous.

I'm don't think SS3 will be fantastic by any means, but the incompetency of the Underworld dev team doesn't really guarantee anything.

UA felt more like a case of the funding straight up running out and them pushing out whatever they had, rather than the devs being simply incompetent. SS3 at least has a proper budget.

Or... it did. I'm not sure who is publishing it after they bought the rights back.

I'm fairly certain that there never actually was a UA Dev team and the whole project was just a scheme to siphon more funds into SS3. Even though they had a Kickstarter, and a publisher, for both. The product we got was probably just something daniel the pre-grad intern threw together in a week. Funding running out just does not explain everything wrong with that game unless it ran out before the KS was ever completed.

50\50
I absolutely know, without doubt that they might fucked up SS3, but still have a bit of hope that some of the ideas might be fun.
>ND whant's to make a remake looks and fell like SS2
>Without Skills
>Without interactable environment
>But with SS1 map
The remake is going to be a mish-mash of stupid decisions

Attached: (Baby-baby-baby starts playing).jpg (295x397, 25K)

No arguments here.

It's the whole survival horror bit they want to take from SS2 and paste into SS1. Because, for better or worse, that's what the series is known for. Also generic survival horror is easy to crap out these days.

Agreed, everybody praises SS2, but I never here SS1 discussed that much. I vastly prefer it to the sequel and genuinely enjoy how complex the ui/controls are.

>Implying that SS1 wasn't a survival horror
I mean, you kind of right,I still don't know how classify SS1, and I love and respect the game for what it was and is right now. But Night Dive Studios have a point in terms that late game turns into Rambo simulator and completely breaks the balance

Attached: tumblr_m8m7o8Rdsl1r5cmqwo1_500.gif (500x367, 465K)

I don't understand this recent boner with giving villains a "complex, deep and profound" motivation instead of just let them be.

- The original Star Wars trilogy painted Darth Vader just as a powerful Jedi who got tempted by the dark side and decided to walk a dark path. The prequels inserted all of that Midichlorians / "join the dark side to save your wife" nonsense
- The Aliens from the eponymous series were fine as just a hostile extraterrestrial lifeform. Then the recent movies retconned them into being created by a renegade Weyland-Yutani android using alien technology, basically giving then a human origin.
- In the original movies, Broly's pathological hatred of Goku was born due to Goku's cries when they were babies on the Saiyan daycare. It made sense due to Broly's insanity to develop such obsession. Then Super retconned it into Broly instinctively feeling that Goku was fated to be his rival or some horseshit.

>In the original movies, Broly's pathological hatred of Goku was born due to Goku's cries when they were babies on the Saiyan daycare. It made sense due to Broly's insanity to develop such obsession. That's less deep desu.

Indifferent/10

There is no way they aren't going to ruin it.

God, I can already see it.
I really hope they don't try to pull that shit.

false, you can easily skip SS1 and play Ultima Underworld and SS2 instead and you won't miss anything

>Broly's pathological hatred of Goku was born due to Goku's cries when they were babies on the Saiyan daycare
He must have a severe case of autism and a great memory

It will be either.
a. or
b. SHODAN realized that mankind would face overwhelmingly danger in the future (either genocidal aliens a la mass effect or a natural catastrophe) and tried to evolve mankind into artificial lifeforms that could survive said danger, retconing her into a good girl.

Exactly.

Tells you all you need to know about the character, that's pretty deep

Based and correct.
Pic related.

I wish the face of Sam was still the face of Max

No one thinks MP2 is the best.

is 1 playable? I have it on gog, both original and enhanced editions, is it serviceable for someone who's never played it in the past?

If you enjoy old PC games and are a boomer at heart you are going to enjoy it

I don't get whole that love for MP2, imho original wins with better story, atmosphere, more memorable levels, and better face. MP2 mostly just recycles characters and shit.

I'm a boomer physically as well I just never played any of the system shock gsmes, my issue with some of the older games is having a slower interface or whatever, kinda like the original xcom, but then there's the openxcom project for that game so it's much more serviceable now.
gonna give it a shot, I assume enhanced edition added lots of quality of life stuff menu wise.

I played it after SS2, which I played first time in 2014, and it is one of my favorite games. (Oldness tolerance is different on different people, you doofoos)

Enhanced Edition adds mouselook to 1, making it playable like 2 or Deus Ex.
I played it for the first time a couple years ago and became one of my favorite games ever.

1=2=3=A=shit

Only played the second game and loved it. Even if I’m an absolute pussy and hate horror, I wouldn’t change that just don’t expect me to play it again anytime soon. I’m probably too zoom zoom to play the first game

>late game turns into Rambo simulator
that was the best part

based

1 > 2

also dark souls

Attached: mm1.jpg (408x408, 176K)

Does adding this big change not ruin a game like this for you or is SS1 literally unplayable without it? To me it sounds like playing skyrim with mods and never giving it a go on vanilla... if skyrim were good that is.

The first time I tried System Shock I couldn't play it because in my opinion this kind of genre requires mouselook.
It's not like Doom where mouselook adds nothing due to the way the game is designed; System Shock is a true 3D world, being more like playing Deus Ex without mouselook, forcing you to use on-screen controls to look up, down, left and right.

Does key rebinds ruin developer intention?

No but there is a point where it is like redoing the whole thing. It's like taking a recipe and substituting every ingredient for something completely different. Not that bad maybe but switching from keylook to mouse look is a whole new experience.

Yeah I suspect from the footage I have seen that it would be basically unplayable. I believe in hardcore fans prefer mouselook mods. How long before you wanted to put your first through the screen?

The Many should have won.

SS2babies should be shot.

It's a different experience for sure. But you're still leaning around corners, peeping out at sec cams, still looking under beds for items, etc. For me whats important is the interaction with the world and you still do it just in a more efficient way.
