alright boys i need a suggestion. ive played almost every mainstream horror game and they all suck fucking ass. i want to get scared so damn bad but each and every one of them is baby shit. could anyone recommend me a game that will make me shit my pants and with nightmares for 2 weeks?

why don't you list what you've played? I like the first amneisa game alot. Project P.T. is on PC if you havent played that yet.

I have the same problem, the only game that was stressful to me was Darkwood on hard

D2 for the dreamcast, bro.
i doubt casual like u will handle it

i honestly cant even remember most horror games i've played. amnesia, outlast, lost in vivo, silent hill games, resident evil etc. these are all that i can remember off the top of my head cause im kind of high. i will check out project P.T. though, thanks! never had a ps4 so couldnt try it.
how have i never heard of this game before? gotta try it, thanks dude!
fuckin. bet. (thanks for the suggestion really appreciate it

This. Darkwood is built around fear in how it plays. Walking sim, Silent Hill, RE, Haunting Ground, etc, are all good.

Soma?

Since I dunno what you've played and what you like, I'm just gonna list out my all time favorites:

-Silent Hill 1-4
-Resident Evil 1-4 + REmake
-Fatal Frame 1-3
-Dino Crisis 1
-Afraid Of Monsters: Director's Cut
-Cry Of Fear
-Condemned: Criminal Origins
-Scratches
-Underhell: Chapter 1

Honorable mention: the STALKER trilogy, FEAR 1.

>how have i never heard of this game before?
you're either new AF, or don't lurk enuff.
The devs even put the game on Piratebay by themselves, so folks without money can literally play it.

...oh, forgot to list Penumbra: Overture, and Black Plague.

The first two games from Frictional, and still far superior to all their latest shit.

the only games that really scared me was Silent hill 1/2 but that was until i got the story and Darkwood on hard( normal makes dying trivial and annoying at most), i'm playing Eternal Darkness on Dolphin and it is a pretty cool game even if not scary at all but it's worth a play if you like Lovecraft stuff.

i definitely gotta try it out then, im just saving all these games in a text file to download later. thanks my dude.
naah, didnt really like it that much.
you have god tier taste in horror games dude. i fuckin love silent hill, afraid of monsters, cry of fear, penumbra, black plague and condemned. some of your games i havent even heard of so i'll check em out. thanks a ton!

This. Darkwood is the only scary game I played on higher difficulties. There's nothing worse then a pair of chompers ripping through your hideout while the furniture starts going nuts. I would love to see a 3D version of it

yeah I think it was called Unreal PT, should definitely check it out.

>Silent Hill 2.
I don't get it. It's not scary. It might be the least scary in the series.

HOW do you want to be scared? Suggestions will vary based on your answer.

>The first two games from Frictional, and still far superior to all their latest shit
explain

same honestly. the silent hill franchise (but mostly the first one) is the only one that made me actually terrified and feeling dread. im downloading darkwood rn because of all the recommendations and yeah eternal darkness is a pretty cool game. not scary in the least tho.
gotcha. downloading rn!
did you ever feel that bone deep sense of dread where youre just completely hopeless and want to cry your eyes out? something like that.

>you have god tier taste in horror games dude.
Thanks bruh! You too. No homo.

Every single game after Penumbra (Amnesias, SOMA) have just cut out content and generally made the gameplay more forgiving. To the point that you can literally disable enemies in SOMA.
Penumbras are pretty much survival horrors in first-person view. First game even had clunky combat, that fortunately can be avoided for the most part.

yo maybe i should start darkwood on nightmare? what do you guys think?

you want me to explain why YOU don't find something scary? i find SH2 really disturbing, psychological intriguing and it gave me a weird feeling which i can't quite describe, it was a different and unique kind of scary for me at least.

i tried to like this game, really but high tech/walking simulator stuff usually turn me off in a horror game but i still like a few System Shock 2 and Dead Space 1/2.

start at hard( you get 4 lives) until you get used to it's mechanics and then restart on Nightmare if you want

Just chiming in with a worthless opinion because I haven't played Darkwood but I think cranking up the difficulty in horror games forces you to think about it more as a game than an experience and as a result dulls the horror. Especially when you keep dying and trying again and death loses meaning. Thanks for reading my blog.

Different user here, how is the Switch port of Darkwood? Does it hold up or should I just play on PC?

You'll quit pretty quick.

gotcha. ill play it once on hard then if i like it ill just replay it on nightmare. thanks for all the help dudes!

I can't imagine how it would control.

just one tip, play it with headphones.

i mean thats a must for horror games. lights turned off and at 1am as well of course.

oh dude btw op here. if youve never played lost in vivo then you gotta check it out. youll fucking love it. trust me.

yes but the sound design on Darkwood makes it kinda of a must.

>if youve never played lost in vivo then you gotta check it out.
I've been eyeing it for ages now.
I do dig them literal SH tributes, but I'm not sure about the gameplay decisions.

no because that's a moronic attitude to have towards horror. horror isn't a fucking rollercoaster, you need to invest yourself and meet the horror halfway in order for it to 'work'. it can't exploit your vulnerabilities if you don't expose them and if you're too much of a pendantic eye-rolling faggot to do that then horror simply isn't for you.
basically horror only works on people who aren't too stupid to understand it. if that's not good enough for you then go fucking hang out in the woods at night if you want to feel scared.

>make me shit my pants and with nightmares for 2 weeks
No game will come close to doing this unless you are an enormous pussy.

yo dude chill, i completely agree with you! i just dont get scared easily, actually almost at all. there have been some games that pushed through that barrier but very rarely. i was just asking for something that can really knock me out, maybe some unknown indie game thats super obscure and underground but scary as hell? i dunno maybe im just gettin my hopes up.
i think i just gotta accept that thats the truth and ill never feel that ever again since i was like 12

It's not a horror game by definition, it's a comedy more than anything else I suppose but LISA: The Painful made me feel that same kind of terrifying uneasiness you experience in nightmares where things are just off and you can feel dread in the pit of your stomache even if you can't explain it. It's an earthbound style JRPG in it's nature and it never tries to be a survival horror game but if you're looking for the creeps it doles them out in spades

move onto VR, which will you give you back some of the feeling for at least a little bit, but really your problem is almost surely that you're just too jaded, too adapted to not being scared. you literally need to forget everything you know about the horror genre, and learn how to actively let your guard down again.

silent hill homecoming

it's so bad it's scary!

i looooove lisa, such an amazing game. the soundtrack is awesome as well. it really is a terrifyingly uneasy experience.
ive been thinking about that for a while now. i think only vr will give me that thrill. and you're 100% right i just got totally desensitized and need to forget everything i know about horror. easier said than done ofc.

so what options does a guy have for playing silent hill 2 and 3 without access to a ps2? emulation?

Someone summon Silent Hill guide bro to the thread

yes someone please do this
