attempt to walk downhill but then take a bunch of fall damage because you got put in the air for walking off a pebble

collect a bunch of calipers for that 1 quest

play for a while then realize it's neither as deep and interesting as Morrowind, nor as fun and visually pleasing as Skyrim

Fucking calipers man.

Sounds like gta v

Complete the dark brotherhood questline, then the thieves guild questline, then the mage's guild questline, and finally the fighter's guild questline. Then stop because the main questline is bad compared to those.

CALIPERS AND TONGS

yeah, but it has SOUL

That is exactly how i played the game. What the fuck

Should I level up in vanilla?

Jeremy Soule*

Real talk, you should level up the stat, I think acrobatics, that dictates how high you can jump. You can easily level this up using some glitch, idk what it is its been like 10 years. Once you can jump over any building, you just use some other glitch to level up your enchanting. Then use the dupe glitch to make thousands of exploding arrows. Now go outside and shoot things and watch them fly around funny.

This is basically what Oblivion is, using glitches to do fun/funny things. Also the guild quests are better than Skyrim. Probably just the quests in general are better.

Is Oblivion that has that feature where you can put one Goblin clans totem into anothers and they will fight for it? Cause if it is, thats fun too.

Reminder that Lady Drad belongs to Ogres.

It's more funny to level up the magic schools and to make a spell with Max frenzy and Max rally in 250 yards and casted in the middle of a town while you are invisible. The rally ensures that nobody will back down until they're dead.

the guild/dark brother questlines are tremendous, the base questline isn't. Oblivion is still fun to run around and explore/complete random side quests.
I have only played it on my 360 so I have been restricted to vanilla. The leveling system is ok if you know how to game it (look up how to optimize skills if you want). But I would recommend PC+mods if you want to level up and not worry about having to optimize certain skills

I'd like Shivering Isles more if not for the ending. Sure it was original, but come on.

>not as visually pleasing as Skyrim
Come on, there’s a lot of problems with Oblivion but it’s the most most visually pleasing of the series

But why do glitches instead of just using console commands?

That's pretty much how you play Skyrim as well. Especially when you avoid the main story so dragons never start spawning and you never have to deal with one.

Oblivion is the least soulful TES game imo. The wilderness is randomly generated. The people are all these weird looking muppets with no facial animation. The setting is just generic fantasy.
Who is the main focus race? Imperials. Do we see any cool roman architecture and weapons, maybe a battle with a legion in formation? Do we get to see anything about the nedes, or maybe the Cyrodiil that we heard about in previous games? No, we get muh ayleids, muh alyeeids... And generic fantasy England we've seen 2000 times.

It really sucked to go from Morrowind to Oblivion. To go from weird looking ash people speaking foreign tongues and telling you to get out, to the most bland setting in existence where you're hailed as a hero from minute 2 of the game. To riding giant stilt-legged insects and fighting dinosaurs under giant mushrooms, to fighting wolves in a forest... yawn.

Oh I had it on like 360 or something back when it came out. I actually have it on PC now but haven't really played much.

Glitches are more fun though. Console commands are too easy.

I think a lot of people are still jaded from the fact that before Oblivion came out we were told that the mainland was this swampland, like if the whole province was like the area by Leyawiin, yeah when we actually got to go there it's pretty by the books high fantasy. It's not a bad thing it's just not what people were told to expect.

That's the thing when you have it on PC, you can fuck around with glitches for a little while, but then you realize you can just use console commands to achieve the same thing.

Eh, I liked the main Skyrim questline a bit more and don't mind completing that. I think that Cyrodiil is more beautiful overall but I like exploring Skyrim.

>it’s the most most visually pleasing of the series
Are you blind? Jesus I've heard people praise Oblivion for a lot of things but the visuals are indefensible. It aged worse than Morrowind dude. It was released during that weird era where everyone thought bloom looked good. And they were trying to push the realistic graphics meme but the hardware wasn't there yet. are you thinking of a modded copy maybe? Even then the models are inarguably far inferior to skyrim, just compare the characters for one thing.

Whatever you want, that's what makes Bethesda games so appealing.

This + some daedric quests like the sheogorath one because it's wacky, the Sanguine one because it gives you infinite lockpicks and the Asuras one because it gives you infinite soul gems.
Also the painted world quest.

Fighting dragons is kino though. Especially if you have mods that make it so everyone flees in terror.

Did they ever patch the bug where fall damage resistance didn't scale correctly with acrobatics skill so once it was maxed out you would take a bunch of damage upon hitting the ground after a jump.

>+ some daedric quests like sheogorath/sanguine/asuras and painted world
Good shout outs user, thanks for the reminder.

The music played a huge part. There is NOTHING comfier than a Cyrodiil night with a song by Jeremy Soule playing.

oblivion looks great

You're literally retarded.

I need them to keep the water airborne

>It looks bad
>nuh uh it looks good
>no it looks bad and here's why
>y-youre dumb
not sure if seething or in denial

Screenshots like this really make me wish that people would make modpacks. There's nothing more unfun than spending hours downloading mods only to find that some of them don't work together or some of them just don't work at all.

Stop being a baby, modding is part of the fun
nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/47591

mage guild should be done before thieves guild so that you can build an invisibility spell optimised for your current mana level

Uhhh a modpack? user, you DID get PERMISSION to use DickSucker69's Extra Fruity ENB right? And you DID personally email each and every person credited on every single mod to get their express written consent right? Yikes, sorry gonna have to to DMCA your entire pack, shut down your nexus account, sue you, and call the FBI. I won't let you get away with raping modders like that.

not him but i can't tell if you are making fun of yourself or him because your argument is just as stupid as the one you are making fun of, so i have to agree with him you must be retarded.

I always had enough of a sneak skill/+sneak gear from the dark brotherhood questline that I didn't need any spells. However, that's a good tactic as well and I might use it next time. Thanks user.

why isn't that bridge casting a shadow?

I got oblivion on steam and even following the goddamn OBSE instructions it has a really hard time to actually work, any ideas?

You paste everything into the top level oblivion directory and start the game from the obse loader.

>nor as fun and visually pleasing as Skyrim
The only fun thing about skyrim was dragon shouts, and even there people only use one of them. The visuals are also as boring as morrowind, but the overworld is much worse than MW so it doesn't really have any advantages over any of the other tes games.

Get that big portable tent mod, stuff your companions inside, pretend it's your party when you're out doing dungeons or exploring. Pocket plane is also cool. also make one of your companions your wife

I do and it says that i need to launch it vi steam. Doing so just launches normal oblivion. Not my first SE rodeo but permissions and such don't work.

>sneak gear from the dark brotherhood
Ahh, makes sense. I did DB last, since it involves fighting and I wanted to build up my character a bit before that.

Fun fact - if you are the archmage, you have to "steal" your own staff in a thieves guild mission. You go to your office, pick up the staff, hand it to the guild. When you go back to your office, the other mages tell you that there was a staff left for you but it got stolen.

>become Sheogorath
>do your own Shrine quest
>Haskill is the one instructing you

This, obviously.

Still looks better than gray snow

Mod the shit out of it to make it even remotely enjoyable, your first priority should be to remove the retarded level/loot sclaing bullshit and something that fixes the equally retarded leveling system

Gonna need the modlist.
