Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom

This game just came out on Steam and GOG few days ago.
I played through a half of it and can say this is one of the best 2D platformer/puzzle/metroid experiences I've had in a while.
It's also really well made - animations, music, control and pacing are great.

People won't care because Monster World is dead.

i heard the previous one had issues with hit detection.

Feels extremely dated to the point I lost all interest 3 hours in and dropped it.

Are you talking about wonder boy and top negative comment on steam?
He complains about "muh hitboxes" and "hitstun" and it's an obvious cause of gitgud

One of the best metroidvanias in years and massively underrated, which is a shame.

>dated
why tho? This is how 2D games are supposed to be

I love 2d games, but with The Cursed Kingdom I feel like I've played this game 10 times and it doesn't do anything exceptionally well.

Dragon's Trap remake was better.

ah, so it's just some shitter being shit?

that's good - the game looked really nice and this has relieved me.

>Dragon's Trap remake was better.
I say this as someone with massive amounts of nostalgia for that game. No. Not even remotely.
For what it was, the remake was great. But it is still that same old game with all the flaws and dated design.

maybe you got tricked into thinking that it's a kids game.
It gets harder the further you're into the game.
Can't say I agree with " it doesn't do anything exceptionally well" because It does

Aggelos was better

No. It's a good game, but it's not a good metroidvania. Or rather, it's a metroidvania for retards and casuals. The world design is super disconnected, and the game constantly tells you where to go.

Compared to which other metroidvanias? I can't think of a single one that's better than Bloodstained or this that has come out in the last 5 years.

Looks like furry shit.

It's not trying to be metroid and it's much more puzzle oriented but there is definitely plenty of backtracking.

HARDER, DAMN IT

Bloodstained is carried by its good shard system and combat, everything else ranges from run of the mill metroidvania design to unforgivable shit like the underwater sections

Can you have sex with the animal people

>Bloodstained is carried by its good shard system
it's not good tho

Wait, so in addition to a remake of Wonder Boy III itself, there was also a new game inspired by it released two years later?

you're correct. But a year ago, not 2 years.
It came out on consoles in 2018 and on PC in 2019

Oh. Huh. Neat.

Based user asking the important questions.

Well, if it's anything like the game it's based on, it's a fun little platformer with a neat gimmick.

She's a nun, user.

Pirated on first day, Imma play it tomorrow

I JUST WANT A CUTE FURRY GF AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

There is something about the art of this game that makes me think it wasnt made by japaneses but by french trying to emulate anime.

Games should have more nuns and christian (or some fantasy equivalent) girls.

That’s because it is a French game

There's not enough weird fetish shit in it.

Why is it so expensive? It should be $20.

>I played it and it's the best thing ever
>N-no I'm not a developer trust me guys this is not a shill thread

Yeesh. The style isn't my thing, but I checked it out on steam anyway. I'm trying to be open. The trailer starts playing this super cheesy vocal track about having an adventure, and I literally cringe. Looks like gross furry trash.

>a new game inspired by [Wonder Boy III]
i can't say for sure, but from what I understand, Monster Boy is actually a legit sequel to the wonder boy games, just without the branding and such.
Source (actual potential spoilers):
the protagonists of the previous games appear somewhere towards the end of the game
I don't think this game looks like anime at all bud

well hello there

Cartoons is the only thing that frenchies do well.
I hate their modern music or movies

So we gonna post monster bois of what

Remember no Bara, it's objectively shit

Does show up? He's cute.

He's in the Dragon's Trap remake.

I'm about ten hours into it, maybe a bit over halfway if I wanna get everything.

It's shaping up to be my favorite indie game this year, better than even Katana Zero, Touhou Luna Nights, Bloodstained, My name is Pedro, and The Messenger (all games I've played in the past two months).

The protagonist from Monster Land and Dragon's Trap on the mastersystem are the same person--as evidenced the finale of Monster Land and the beginning of Dragon's Trap are the same.

of course that means the ending to land is now retconned but that's ancient news by now.

Right, I was just about I correct myself actually, sorry for the confusion

so yes he does appear, along with most the other major protagonists of the series

The music is absolutely slammin'. I really enjoyed the game, but it's a bit of a shame that the golden stuff is almost entirely unnecessary to collect since the final boss is a puzzle boss.

If I buy OP will I be supporting the other series too? I want more cute games.

>french trying to emulate anime
nigger what? french animation had an enormous influence on japanese animation, its the other way around. your just recognizing things japan started using as well

I want to say yes, but I honestly can't really give a definitive answer.
I mean, we did get the remake of wonder boy 3 before OP, and I can only guess that the former helped pave the way for the latter, whether directly or indirectly, so I'd say anything goes at this point

>game is good
>no one plays it because gamers are dumb sheep who need millions of dollars of advertising forced in their faces

Why are gamers like this?

Attached: 1508950256687.png (483x470, 184K)

people were always dumb as fuck, well most of them.
It's not some kind of discovery

Is the game actually good or is it just furbait?

are dragons good or evil in this game?

Looks good, but that price tag though. I'll wait for a big discount.

but i played it like more than six months ago tho.
