KOTOR1 was a familiar retread of Star Wars tropes but in a few new settings. Taris, Dantooine and Korriban were settings we either hadn't seen before or weren't explored very much. there was enough new stuff there to be interesting but relying on Star Wars tropes and Bioware's "you are the chosen one" formula it feels familiar and comfy. KOTOR2 meanwhile is a totally new take on the franchise, it's a total deconstruction of Star Wars without being spiteful or mean spirited like The Last Jedi. it actually added a lot of nuance and perspective to an otherwise samey series that had been rather stagnate in its definitions of good and evil for 30-something years.

it can't be recreated because Disney owns the franchise now and they just want to appeal to the lowest common denominator for the most sales. this means DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION with autistic black trannies in wheelchairs with lightsabers and not doing anything new or interesting to avoid alienating anyone, just sticking to what's tried and true and familiar. it's why Fallen Order takes place in the III-IV gap so they can maximize the amount of I KNOW WHAT THAT IS moments.

the only way you'll see something new and interesting like the KOTOR games is if EA's license lapses and Disney has open season on the license rather than mining it out to a single studio again.

The slow flashing lights on a display, the quiet hum of traveling through space, the classic music. Disney keeps pushing faster and faster, every scene in the movies is action. Nobody sits and talks unless it's about action. It's subtle but it's gone from all SW now. The games funnel you into constant fighting and never shut up. You get your lightsaber chainsaw and go to work. It's probably aiming at the ADD speedrunner type but like all SW that's just giving the finger to fans that built a multi billion dollar empire.

Not sure if this is the best or the worst place to admit this but I'm a writer and I've been cooking up/ trying to stifle the urge to reconstruct/make/restore/remake kotor 2 into what it could have been in a novel format. Most likely published online in either a serial format or bigger chunks by splitting the release into 3 large parts. I know I'm the only person in the world who both could do it justice and actually wants to do it that bad but I'm pretty iffy on it since I can't figure out how to get any semblance of consent from Lucasfilm to release something like that. It would be too big of a blow to put gigantic effort into a restoration project of that caliber only to get shot down by petty kikes who don't want to get outdone even if I wasn't ever going to make a penny off of it
