I updated to the latest version yesterday and was pleased to find out Wipeout HD is close to being playable now. Still getting some FPS drops on certain tracks and in races against AI, when the powerups start flying. But it‘s a big improvement from the last time I tried it out. They also fixed a bunch of visual problems on certain tracks.
I‘m quite pleased. I have an i8700k though, so I guess they still have a long way to go before this works for everyone.

Settings:
HW Hacks: Half Pixel Offset Special, this aligns the depth of field.

Options:
Set CRC to Partial and Accurate Blending to Basic to have DOF and shadows, set CRC to Aggressive and Blending to None to remove DOF and shadows. If you set Blending to off and CRC to Partial then everything is perfect but you will have 20fps when the game is rendering a shadow, really weird lol.

I like the clarity so I'll keep playing without shadows I guess.

I use different controllers depending on the console.
DS2 for most 2D games that rely heavily on the D-pad.
Gamecube controller for N64, GC and Wii games.
Xbone controller for PC games or games that use both analogue sticks and D-pad a lot.

I'd highly recommend using either an official controller or at least a higher quality third party controller. It's a worthwhile investment if you emulate a lot.

It's true. On PS2 those games were pushing the system to its limit, doing all sorts of crazy tricks to look as good as possible, which requires a lot to emulate. On PS3 the remasters are stupidly simple compared to PS3 games, there's no complex shaders, and they don't even need to use any SPUs, requiring very little to emulate.

It's not true at all. You can emulate PS2 games on PCs 10 years old.

Resolution doesn't matter much since that depends on your GPU and RPCS3 is pretty light on the GPU. 4K is easy to run with anything decent. The CPU requirements are pretty steep, though, that's where the difficulty comes from.

480p looks awful in 2019. The games' assets are fine and all, but the rendering resolution is just terrible for 3D games. If there's a possibility to run the games while rendering at much higher resolution, that's the vastly superior option unless you've got nostalgia goggles for the low-resolution blur. 2D sprite games are a different story, those can look nice with a good upscaler, but 3D games need to be rendered at much higher resolution than native.

Most emulators have ways to bind mouse/kb to the controller inputs the game expects, but these are unlikely to work very well since mouse input is different to stick input. You're better off with a controller most of the time.

I joined a Yea Forums server and they told me I needed to play more jrpg's so I figured I would start with some classics. Currently half forcing myself through DDS1 and then onto 2. I get my games directly from Sony's servers with PStuff. They don't have everything though like bluray exclusive releases or extremely niche titles, for those you go to private trackers.

That's only true up to a point. A 9900K is probably the fastest CPU for RPCS3 because the emulator benefits from TSX and core/thread scaling only works up to a point and a 8C/16T CPU is generally at that point already, so something like a 12C/24T 3900X is unlikely to perform better than a 9900K in RPCS3.

what ps3 games should I play above all else? Only had a handful of them when I owned a ps3

the game tries to run at full speed even if it can't render at that speed. If you can hit low 20s game will run great despite looking choppy. Even less than that is very playable. Even RPCS3 can run games actually below native res now (instead of just running it at native and scaling it) that's a big feature change I didn't really know about and didn't matter when I emulated the game.

I legit was probably the first person to play up through Okumura Foods on emu and would have been the first to beat it if I had a better machine/known about thread pausing. So people struggling to run it now in a way better version of the emulator triggers my autism, sorry user.

you have to play around with the settings and it works fine. that's how most pcsx2 games are. for example tales of destiny dc is unplayable out of the box but you tick 2 options in the settings and its now fully playable.

Should run fine. I don't think you'd be able to get a 60FPS lock at all times (with the 60FPS mod) but I think you should be able to get the native 30FPS. CPU is the only problem, a 1070 should easily run it even at 4K.

When I get into the tutorial area, there is only a black screen but the UI is visible.

I'm emulating phantom hourglass but the controls are such a pita I want to drop the game. I have mic samples and everything but the touchscreen controls are just so annoying. Is spirit tracks like this too? God I hate when nintendo pushes hardware gimmicks into every game.

I was emulating PS1 games on my iPad 2 in like 2014 and phones are way more powerful now. Had a wii classic controller bluetoothed in too, it was fucking awesome. I’m still salty that the screen cracked when my phone fell on it from like a foot and a half, but that thing was like 7 years old and still an emulation champ.

You can tweak it. The default is a mix between PS2 and PC (which is for the best, the PS2 version's color grading is too much).

Vulkan, ASMJIT, other typical CPU settings
Tried strict, 1440p, 4k, native resolution, no dice
Tried Vsync on, frame limited 30FPS, auto, off, disabling vertex cache, disabling multithreaded RSX, disabling async shader compile, nothing gets rid of the flickering
Tried every global setting in the Radeon settings too

Config > GPU > Write Color Buffers

I have some incredibly weak 2012 builds I have tested PCSX2 and it has worked on.

In fact my Surface Pro 2 from 2013 runs it fairly well, as with Dolphin.

I would say a fairly weak 2014 device could rape those two emulators. Even the Shield TV runs PCSX2 but at a low framerate (due to the emulator team sucking at anything but Windows)

Also should add OpenGL doesn't work at all and is such a slog it's not worth using it anyways

the fucking shader compiling is so damn annoying and drains FPS when i walk 5 meters in any direction, especially when you enter a new zone, in finished games those shaders are pre-compiled so is there a torrent to download all of them and not worry about it?

Dolphin, for multiplayer with a friend. We' played dokapon, mario golf, mario kart, kirby, mario party; Fortune Street is fun too but devs made the retarded decision to not let you save in multiplayer matches and since you can't use savestates with netplay, it's really hard to play that one. Bummer.

"Playable" means a lot and nothing at all.
You can "play" the game even if the healthbars are bugged and versus mode crashes sice technically the campaign can be finished

I don't know what to tell you. I pretty much run standard settings except using D3D11 (Hardware) as renderer and with 3x Native Resolution. I get full speed in training mode and beginning of story mode on an i5-4460 CPU. I haven't played through the game or anything, but everything looks to be working on my end.
Try downloading the latest development build. The stable release is almost 3 years old by now.

Emulators are usually okay with either Xinput or chink noname directinput gamepads that you can buy for peanuts with roughly the same fault rate as vanilla wired x360 controllers
