Why is whether or not a gay character is written well entirely dependent on how open they are with their sexuality? A straight character can be promiscuous or asexual and no one will give a shit but a gay character is judged on much more strictly and rigorously. No, not really. I haven't seen anyone bitch about the sex scenes in the Witcher 2, for example. And even if that was true straight characters are still allowed to be more explicity about their sexual orientation (i.e. no one will bitch if they kiss on screen, if they flirt, if they have a sex scene that fades to black, if they are in an explicit relationship or married, and so on but if a gay character does that it's too explicit)

You didn't answer the actual question. I asked if it would be "forced diversity". Someone could like or dislike a game for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with the orientation of the character (for example, they may like or dislike it because of the gameplay and not really care about the story).

When you tack it on years later even though it doesn't rhyme with any part of his established character makes it not seem genuine at all. Especially with Soldier 76 it felt like a political move rather than character development.

How do you know the intent of the developers? For all you know they may genuinely want to include gay characters. Or were pressured by the publisher to include them to maximize demographics. There are multiple episodes dedicated to it, and becomes a character arc because of it.

Quality of writing. Plenty of magical settings I reject because they're too stupid. Also human nature is nothing like magic (which is usually just substitution of technology). We all experience it and wanting to see the way human nature plays out in different settings is part of the inherent fascination with fantasy settings. When you twist the humanity of your characters they become unrelatable and people stop being able to invest emotional. Humans are not arbitrary and writing them that way leaves an audience nothing to empathize with.

Fantasy is cool because it allows us to explore humanity in settings completely unlike our own. When you take out the humanity fantasy becomes boring.

People knew them for 10 plus years but they never mentioned that they were gay. We could all kinda guess though given how awkward they were when other guys talked about girls though.

It's about Po and a new cast, no Five. Wing and Wong are minor characters, their situation is a little weird.
In the episode they're introduced in, they're implied to be brothers, then they dont show up again until like 10 episodes later, and they suddenly announce themselves as a couple and in love, but then another character that says a line that kind of muddles it that maybe they're actually not a couple, and then from them on every other line from them is a line that implies they're a couple again, but they never outright state it again. By the end of the series it's basically like a 99% chance that they are in fact a gay couple but one could technically argue theyre not.

These serve to add to the setting, and one session is with a girl who refers to the person she was dating as a she when discussing her anger issues. That's it, that's literally all. It's not pointed out and you might not even catch it as it's treated completely normally.
