real gamers don't play games.

The entire Gnome's Garden series.

Superman 64 would be in the top 10

nice f.lux

I feel like beating God Hand is a rite of passage.

real gamerezrz min-max one game till they hate it and try to destroy the community around it.

unironically cringe

Fortnite

This post was made by Gang Anonymous

I've only completed Super Mario World, OOT, and SotC
>Skyrim
Everyone should have played Skyrim but who the fuck actually completes it at least story-wise?
I would replace GTA III with V or IV, regardless of quality. Hell maybe even SA.

Unironically?

Super Mario World
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Pokemon Emerald
Grand Theft Auto 3
Halo Combat Evolved
Resident Evil 4
Dark Souls
Final Fantasy 7
Half Life 2
Deus Ex
Katamari Damacy
Shadow of the Colossus
Silent Hill 2
The Last of Us
Doom

I'm sure there are more, this was basically off the top of my head, and not all of them are games I particularly love, but these are the fifteen that I feel like people just kind of expect you've played. For Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon, you could swap out a lot of different ones but I tried to pick the biggest ones that weren't just the originals. All of these are at least worth trying out.

The list from the article is
>15. Ocarina of Time
>14. The Last of Us
>13. Super Mario World
>12. Half-Life 2
>11. Streets of Rage 2
>10. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
>9. House of the Dead 2
>8. Metal Gear Solid
>7. Skyrim
>6. Grand Theft Auto 3
>5. Final Fantasy 7
>4. Shadow of the Colossus
>3. Chrono Trigger
>2. Pokemon Red/Blue
>1. Dark Souls
I only completed 4 of these games[/spoilers]

söy

>completed
What a shitty term.
How about just getting good at brood war as a rite of passage.

I feel ashamed knowing I breath the same air as the person who wrote that article.
I don't even need to read it to know it's "shitty games I played in my childhood that my nostalgia goggles make look good".

>only misses shadow of the colossus

I've always meant to play it.

Attached: 1563419807869.gif (413x233, 2.62M)

Here is the patrician list, going to list more than 15 because fuck the rules

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Portal
Super Mario Galaxy
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy III (VI)
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
Metroid Prime
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Resident Evil 4
The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
Super Metroid
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
SoulCalibur
Shadow of the Colossus
EarthBound
Super Mario World
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Red Dead Redemption
Super Mario 64
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil (Remake)
Bioshock
The Last of Us
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Valkyrie Profile
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
Final Fantasy X
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

>I have saved a list, I am a true gamer, respect me now, no matter how I tell you gamers suck.
Nothing has hurt culture more than those top10 lists, ever

I don't understand why people seethe so much about journalists, they are no different from the average Yea Forums poster

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Assassin's Creed II
Dead Space
Devil May Cry 1, 3, 4
Dragon Quest VIII
DuckTales/DT Remastered
Kirby Super Star/Ultra
Psychonauts
Resident Evil 1 HD, 2/2r
SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom
Spyro 1, 2, 3, R
Tomb Raider 1
I've only completed 6 of these

>The Last of Us
dafuq is wrong with you people?

It's that their reviews affect meta-scores and subsequently bonuses, so they get a much bigger say in the industry from regular consumers.

Breath of the Wild

Gothic

If you claim to like Silent Hill 2 & MGS3, but shit on TLOU for "Terrible gameplay" you are a hypocrite

The difference is, retards on Yea Forums aren't getting paid and probably don't believe most of the shit they spew

Same person, forgot Grand Theft Auto V, Silent Hill 2, Super Smash Bros & Perfect Dark

I'm just repeating the article list, no way in hell would The Last of Us be on my own list.

You sound like a fucking moron.
Silent Hill 2 and MGS3 is nothing like TLOU, the only thing the latter has in common is perhaps cutscene length.
If you tell me MGS3 outside of that is ANYTHING like TLOU you should go back to fucking leddit and dilate on your way there is you fucking filth.

I never actually played Silent Hill because I'm too much of a weenie to play horror games, but you're right about MGS, I did gloss over that.

Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XI
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy XIV
Vagrant Story

It's a great game. What's the matter with you?

Replace DP (not PT) with HGSS

MGS3 & SH2 are both story driven games where the only enjoyment comes from watching cutscenes & listening to the music. The gameplay is garbage

I believe that if a game is going to forsake gameplay in the name of story, the story has to give me meaningful choices that affect the story. If I want to experience a 30 hour story, I can binge watch any number of TV shows and that won't aggravate my carpal tunnel.

>SMW
>THPK2
>GTA3
>PKM RBY
who cares about the rest desu

I only got 3.

MGS1 & MGS3 literally do the exact same thing, you cannot claim they are good without liking The Last of Us as well

>complete
>FFXI
>FFXIV
if only that actually were reasonable, but if you only count initial release story then thats not so bad

Does it matter?

A lot of these games listed are old, what would a modern list be like? either just some damn good games you like, or games you think will be seen as classics in the future. these are games everyone should have played

I didn't play MGS1 and said I didn't care for 3

Yup, there's no pride in sitting on a couch & fiddling with a controller.

Define modern, what's the timeframe? 2006-2019?

I never finished skyrim because the msq bugged out and I didn't want to just skip ahead with console commands because I would miss story
Maybe I should have tried deleting the door that wouldn't open.

The Game

Sure, anything past 90's is fine really.

Guess I'm not a true gamer, thank Christ.

Cool, I don't want to be associated with gamers.

Super Mario RPG: 7 Stars
Starcraft
Diablo
Diablo 2
Resident Evil 4
League of Legends
Fortnite

Ace Combat 7
Bloodborne
Breath of the Wild
Celeste
DMCV
Dragon Quest XI
God of War 2018 or whatever
Hollow Knight
Horizon Zero Dawn
Nier Automata
Persona 5
Red Dead Redemption II
RE7
RE2make
Sonic Mania
Super Mario Odyssey
The Witcher III
Yakuza 0, Kiwami 2, 6

They should play and beat these, quality may vary though

>15. Ocarina of Time
Beat it. GOAT.
>14. The Last of Us
HAHAHAHAHAHA no.
>13. Super Mario World
Beat it.
>12. Half-Life 2
Beat it.
>11. Streets of Rage 2
Never heard of it, probably a shit game.
>10. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
I think I've played this when I was younger.
>9. House of the Dead 2
I thought this was a movie, not a game. What kind of game is this.
>8. Metal Gear Solid
Beat it. Good game.
>7. Skyrim
Beat it.
>6. Grand Theft Auto 3
Played Vice and SA, never beat either. Old GTA is a little shitty in a good way.
>5. Final Fantasy 7
Didn't like this game that much, in fact, I don't really like the Playstation FF games. Got like halfway through but the story was too weird and edgy for me. Liked ff1-6 though.
>4. Shadow of the Colossus
Never played it. Will change that someday.
>3. Chrono Trigger
Beat it. Remember nothing about it though.
>2. Pokemon Red/Blue
Beat it.
>1. Dark Souls
Played 3, not really into it.

Played them all except for Last of Us and House of the Dead

Good game, pretty short too.

12/15 for me.
Almost a true gamer!

>only played 11/15
Damn I'm not a real gamer

Did you finished them, though?

minecraft

I don't think I'd be qualified to come up with a true list, because I ultimately don't give enough of a fuck about strategy or racing games to put them on a top list, and I'm sure they deserve to be there otherwise.

I have finished 1 game from that list and I've been playing vidya for 25 years. I guess I'm not a gamer.

The fuck, I respect your tastes but it still feels like you come from a bizarro world where many significant games don't exist and Ducktales is relevant to more than just the moon song.

This is what they will usually look like regardless of order
> 32. Metal Gear Solid 2

Succubus loli kindergarden.

Pretty good list. Reminds me of why I still love video games despite all the bullshit.

Last of Us fucking sucks.

Super Mario World
DK Country
Super Mario 64
Banjo Kazooie
Ocarina of Time
Breath of the Wild
Earthbound & Mother 3
Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
Ace Attorney trilogy
Sonic Adventure 2 (despite its flaws)
one major PS in online multiplayer (CSGO, Halo, CoD, whatever)
Portal 1 & 2
Pokemon Glazed
Super Mario Galaxy
at least one GTA

>15. Ocarina of Time
Mediocre
>14. The Last of Us
Okay
>13. Super Mario World
Not even the best in the series
>12. Half-Life 2

Bad
>5. Final Fantasy 7
Okay
>4. Shadow of the Colossus
Great
>3. Chrono Trigger

>2. Pokemon Red/Blue
Horrible fucking games vastly outclassed by most of gens 2-5, never played 6 on but I assume they're better too
>1. Dark Souls
Okay game with sjgnificant flaws.

Here's my attempt at a counter-list. You don't have to like or love these games, but anyone with a passion for the medoum should at least try them.
15. Shadow of the Colossus
14. Dwarf Fortress
13. Supreme Commander
12. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
11. UnderTale
10. The World Ends With You (on DS)
9. Tearaway (on Vita)
8. Thief 2: The Metal Age
7. Doom 2016
6. Tetris (specifically either DS, GM3, or Tengen)
5. Opus Magnum
4. Factorio
3. Overcooked 2
2. SimCity 4000
1. Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

Galaga
Gradius 2
Doom 1 or 2
Starsiege Tribes 2
Age of Empires 1 or 2
Warcraft 1
King's Quest III
X-Wing or TIE Fighter, not XW vs TF
Mario 64
Super Robot Taisen
Super Metroid
Megaman 4
Turtles in Time (acrade)
A somewhat realistic WW2 flight simulator using a joystick and pedals

>gaylo
>last of sucks

I forgot to add Minecraft to make it 15.

>Pokemon Glazed
I may be a furry but that name has always sounded way to sexual for me to get around and actually play it.

>Dwarf Fortress
>Factorio
>Opus Magnum
How many autism simulator games does one list need?
No third-person action games or horror whatsoever, your rpg and fps candidates are eclectic to say the least (half your list is strategy of some sort or another and your two rpgs are dialogue driven?).

Weird ass list. I agree with Alpha Centauri and the top 3.

Cave story
Super Mario Bros 1
Super Mario World
Tetris
King of fighters '98
The legend of Zelda ocarina of Time
Pac-man
F-zero AX Las Vegas location
GTA San Andreas
Earthbound
Contra
Koikatsu
Halo 3
Lego Star wars 2
Ninja gaiden black

>15. Ocarina of Time
I played it briefly, but couldn't get into it. The only Zelda games I really care about all that much are the first two.
>14. The Last of Us
Completed.
>13. Super Mario World
Completed.
>12. Half-Life 2
Completed.
>11. Streets of Rage 2
I played it, but dropped it after a while. I'm generally more fond of arcade beat'em ups than console ones.
>10. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
I've only played a demo of it.
>9. House of the Dead 2
I played it once at some amusement park. I might revisit it at some point.
>8. Metal Gear Solid
Completed.
>7. Skyrim
I've never played it, and never will. I know what to expect from Bethesda.
>6. Grand Theft Auto 3
Completed.
>5. Final Fantasy 7
I rented it once back when it came out, then never played it again. I might revisit it at some point. I didn't really dislike the game, I was just a little burned-out on JRPGs at the time.
>4. Shadow of the Colossus
Completed.
>3. Chrono Trigger
Completed.
>2. Pokemon Red/Blue
I've never played a Pokemon game, and I probably never will. Nothing about it sounds appealing to me.
>1. Dark Souls
I've never played it. I played Demons' Souls and just couldn't get into it for some reason. It seemed like the sort of game I would enjoy, but it ended up being really dull. I can't quite pinpoint what I disliked about it, but the other Souls games look similar enough that I doubt I would care for them either.

So, 7/15. Apparently I am roughly half of a real gamer.

I thought that too but it's seriously the best pokemon game I've ever played. Better than most if not all of the official ones

>Breath of the Wild
>Celeste
4 games in and you've already lost me. Not even going to bother reading the rest.

did you put a porn game in your list

>How many autism simulator games does one list need?
Until they find a wider audience and stop being neglected except by the entrenched niche market desu. They're some of the most creatively brilliant games in a purely mechanical sense on the market and anyone who considers themself a hobbyist gamer should give them their dues and see if they're for them.

>Cave story - respectable
>Super Mario Bros 1
>Super Mario World - don't need both
>Tetris - k
>King of fighters '98 - don't care
>The legend of Zelda ocarina of Time - which zelda you picked doesn't really matter
>Pac-man
>F-zero AX Las Vegas location - great choice
>GTA San Andreas - best in series
>Earthbound - acceptable only because it is the only JRPG, so genre sampler
>Contra
>Koikatsu - why?
>Halo 3
>Lego Star wars 2 - why?
>Ninja gaiden black
not a bad list

. Ocarina of Time
PC
. The Last of Us

. Metal Gear Solid
PC

. Grand Theft Auto 3
big fun and SA is better
. Final Fantasy 7
>Jrpgs
. Shadow of the Colossus

. Chrono Trigger
. Pokemon Red/Blue
Yea, but literally no reason to play those over gen and there's no reason to play gen 2 over HG/SS
. Dark Souls
Didn't like it enough to invest the time needed for gitting gud

Dude check your monitor cable why is this piss stained color correction fucked?

I am a fucking retard

Seek help immediately.
This is such a bad list.
In fact I wouldn't even say that a """real gamer""" needs to have played most of these titles for more than a couple hours, if at all.
Why streets of rage 2? Why not 1, or 3?
Why pokemon? There's no challenge at all, especially in red/blue, where you can literally faceroll the whole game with your starter.
Why GTA completed? You get the "idea" of it after a few missions. I love the game but I wouldn't force someone to go through the whole fucking thing.
Why house of the dead 2? Played it, sure, but completed it? I couldn't beat it in the arcade until I got a dreamcast and practiced at home A LOT. Now I can clear it on one credit, but that's after a lot of memorization and work. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Why is the last of us even on this list? Why is half-life 2 remotely relevant in today's landscape? etc etc etc...
No one is really "good" at broodwar, I spent probably 1600 hours on that game and never got above C+ on iCCup. 180apm was not enough to play terran effectively. I was apparently more than good enough for the W3AL, though, so I played a lot of warcraft 3 once that came out.
this mostly.
>guaranteed replies.jpg
>Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Massive and I mean MASSIVE kek.

MGS3 has alot better gameplay than tlou
>vagrant story
probably the only thing on this list
but kek'd at XI, yo ucant even play it anymore

It's basically a list to get reddit upvotes

I've completed all of these except the last of us, skyrim, and ff7
i wouldn't say anyone needs to play any of these.
go play mario 3 or sonic or ninja gaiden or w/e.

is that lueshi

>written by dan curtis

I'd go with

Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Metal Gear Solid 3
Advance Wars Days of Ruin
Okami
Paper Mario TTYD
Dragon Age Origins
Wario Land 4
Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter
DMC3
Star Fox 64
Burnout Paradise
Killer7
RE4
NBA Street Vol 2
Contra Hard Corps

Many more I wanted to list; I couldn't even cover every genre. And upon reflection, way too many of these are Capcom titles, but I can't help that they're a quality publisher. Or were, at any rate.

only tolerable games on your list are ac7 and bb
maybe hk and mania

I've completed
>Ocarina of Time
>Super Mario World
>Tony Hawks 2
>MGS
>Skyrim
>GTA3
>FF7
>Pokemon R/B
>Dark Souls

Am i a true gamer?

How fucked by porn in the head are you to find "glazed" to be a sexual term? Do you eat "glazed" donuts? Or do you fucking imagine them covered in cum every fucking time you see them?

this guy is fucking insane
simcity 4000 doesnt even exist. did he mean 4 or 3? who knows.
overcooked 2? as if anyone here has people to play coop with ?
outrun 2006 is fantastic but really? what the fuck where does this belong on this list with fucking world ends with you and undertale? how does someone like alpha centauri and undertale? how does someone like thief 2 and supreme commander and also nu-d44m? how does opus magnum and factorio fit on a list with shaodw of the ocllosus, the most fukcing minimal shit ever?
how can you say last of us is 'ok' but oot is 'mediocre' ? they're both prettty bad, definitely worse than halflife2...

>F-zero AX Las Vegas location
Why? I have this on my trinity emulator, and it just seems like F-Zero GX with only six fucking tracks? What's the appeal exactly?

>Do you eat "glazed" donuts?
I can't tell if you're just memeing or you're just so sheltered that you've never heard about someone eating out someone's asshole after cumming inside them before.

. Ocarina of Time
. Half-Life 2
. Metal Gear Solid
. Final Fantasy 7
. Shadow of the Colossus
. Chrono Trigger

Here, i removed the unnecessary

I have only played one of the games. How based am I guys?

What game?

Why did you post the ones you removed?

Jackie Chan

that's nasty

I feel like if video gaming was required to have an "entry course" of sorts, it's should be that you're required to play a good game in each genre that's acommodating enough to new players without being so easy that it becomes a poor example of what the genre has to offer.
Off the top of my head;
>Singleplayer FPS
Either Quake or slightly Modded Doom.
>Multiplayer FPS
Team Fortress 2
>Battle Puzzle
Either Puyo Puyo Tsu or Panel De Pon.
>STG/Bullet Hell
Touhou 6, Ikaruga, or Crimson Clover: World Ignition.

Just to name a few.
Come to think of it, it would probably be worth making a "Yea Forums's guide to vidya gentes you should be playing" image or something like that.

Attached: 1502036459950.png (383x488, 136K)

>Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
not even best in its series
>Metal Gear Solid 3
barely a game but easily the best MGS game
>Advance Wars Days of Ruin
probably the worst in its series
>Okami
i dare you to go back and try to fucking play this today. i dare you. 3+ hours of handholding and constant tutorial shit. it's nearly unbearable how stupid this game thinks the player is. yes it's still the best zelda-like other than darksiders but damn is it worse than skyward sword with this unacceptable bullshit.
>Paper Mario TTYD
ok w/e personal taste
>Dragon Age Origins
not even as good as the game it's a spiritual successor to. yes, best dragon age game, but no, not as good as BG/BG2.
>Wario Land 4
kek
>Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter
sure, but why not IV?
>DMC3
ok, probably best in its series, sure
>Star Fox 64
good actual list, but most people would hate it and not like it and not even clear all the paths, let alone get all the medals, let alone clear it on hard, let alone get the medals on hard, like i did. btw i have a top 10 record in the world for HITS score on area 6 hard.
>burnout paradise
i guess it is one of the best driving games of its kind, and definitely the best that came out back then.
>killer 7
a good actual answer, but more of a videogame-you-play-after-you've-played-lots-of-other-videogames if that makes sense.
>RE4
fine i guess but it's when RE became braindead as fuck. why not RE2? or REmake?
>NBA Street Vol 2
sure, this game is/was great, but at that point you might as well just put nba jam.
>contra hard corps
i love the genesis, i love this contra game, but even I will admit you don't start people on this one. It is probably the easiest once you know what the fuck is going on, but it's got too many traps for a new player to fuck themselves. whether it's character selection or path selection, big no no.

>many of these are capcom titles
maybe list a megaman next time.

How do you piss on a digital image and post it?

I work at dunkin. no one has ever said this to me.
>Duke3d
>Quake 3 arena
>Tetris battle / Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
>Gradius
lol starting people on ikaruga LOL too funny.

user, you're a niche gamer, not a real one!

. The Last of Us
List disregarded.

>Massive and I mean MASSIVE kek.
Sure the genre has been milked to death but why haven't you finished it by 2019??

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a fuckawful example of a battle puzzle game since it's based on Puyo Puyo Original, which is a total mess of a game. Puyo Puyo Tsu is better in every fucking way. Tetris battle is alright but I'd personally segregate Tetris games into their own section altogether since Tetris games are unbelievably numerous and have any kind of differences you could imagine.
I almost said Gradius as well, but I feel like Gradius's unforgiving powerup system would be too much for newcomers to the genre. Ikaruga is relatively simple compared to most bullet hells and Crimzon Clover has a novice mode and practice mode that make it good for the same reason.

We don't complete games because they are good but because they hold our interest until completion. The 15 games every true gamer should have completed are whichever 15 games he never got bored with.

Attached: fuck goons.png (1100x630, 1.28M)

i finished it literally 10 years ago and it wasn't even that good then. very unimpressive for someone who has made a level in any game ever and you can realize how it's all made and so easily deconstructed and everything is just scripted events based on location triggers, like oh, i step in here, i walk on this, i go through this door, then THAT happens. etc.

Respect the culture of others you homophobe.

Lmfao what a fucking joke. It's hilarious how Nintendo still thinks they're relevant

>Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a fuckawful example of a battle puzzle game since it's based on Puyo Puyo Original, which is a total mess of a game
yeah i know. bad joke really. but no one even has a way to play puyo puyo tsu in the states. unless you count neo geo pocket color or wii virtual console lol.
i mean i like puyo puyo a lot but most people aren't gonna fucking get good at it. i wouldn't suggest puyo puyo tetris because of all its problems but it probably is one of the better ones for total casuals to try out.
regarding tetris i unironically think the n64 meme ones like tetrisphere and "the new tetris" are probably worth playing, but the DS one is probably the best for the average person looking to get into it. TGM3 is not like, a viable solution for the average fuck.
gradius is probably a bad choice but it felt wrong suggesting anything else.
zero wing? r-type? raiden?
desu i'd just tell people to go play raptor: call of the shadows or tyrian2000 before i say they should get good at gigawing 2 or radiant silvergun.

Best Indie game of all time & one of the most acclaimed games of the decade. Being contrarian doesn't change that, everyone outside this board loves Journey

>not even best in its series
I agree. However, I do think it's the most solid overall. Least area reuse, good balance, fair amount of abilities.

>probably the worst in its series
It's automatically the best since it's the only one with enemy AI being affected by Fog of War. Having a plot helps.

> 3+ hours of handholding and constant tutorial shit.
It has a skip button.

>but no, not as good as BG/BG2.
I never played those games, nor do I ever see discussion on them.

>sure, but why not IV?
DQ is actually interesting, creative, and assumes the player is intelligent.

>but most people would hate it
Huh? It's one of the few games in existence to have more than one remake. It's obviously popular.

>fine i guess but it's when RE became braindead as fuck
I compare it more to TPS games than I do RE games, and RE4 is definitely the most fun I've had with a TPS

>but it's got too many traps for a new player to fuck themselves.
Perhaps, but it's also more consistent in the way it handles than Contra III, and I think that's important too.

>but no one even has a way to play puyo puyo tsu in the states
Emulators, duh. Computers, laptops, and even phones could easily handle the emulators needed for Puyo Puyo Tsu.
>i mean i like puyo puyo a lot but most people aren't gonna fucking get good at it.
Well, yeah, no shit. It's an introduction to the type of gameplay the genre usually offers. (Setting up chains, the general VS. garbage-sending structure, etc) I suggestion Panel De Pon for similar reasons.
>i wouldn't suggest puyo puyo tetris because of all its problems but it probably is one of the better ones for total casuals to try out.
I thought about the same thing. It makes sense for casuals to try in theory, but in practice they just see it as "another Tetris game" and drop it.
>regarding tetris i unironically think the n64 meme ones like tetrisphere and "the new tetris" are probably worth playing, but the DS one is probably the best for the average person looking to get into it. TGM3 is not like, a viable solution for the average fuck.
Definitely agree with you there. DS Tetris is a pretty fucking good introduction. I would also maybe suggest Tetris Effect, since it's basically just a much fancier, less Nintendo-themed Tetris DS.
>gradius is probably a bad choice but it felt wrong suggesting anything else.
>zero wing? r-type? raiden?
R-Type, maybe? I dunno, I feel like Crimzon Clover might still be the best suggestion I put, since it's the only STG with a decent easymode outside of Touhou.

> Doom, Morrowind, Half-Life 2
What a shame, this was a decent list otherwise. But this boomer trash ruins it

Actual list without circle jerk answers determined by quality and legacy rather than nostalgia. Not particularly my favorites but if you HAVE NOT completed at least 13 of these games you do not have the right to call yourself a gamer.

Cheers

it barely gets talked about

There are numerous more successful and popular indie titles that actually have gameplay and do unique things.
Minecraft
Braid
Undertale
Cave Story
etc.

Try something that actually advances or is an exemplary form of the medium rather than just shallow aesthetic.

>wasting slots on pokemon or JRPGs

why does Yea Forums have such bad taste?

This user is correct.

Confirmed for having never played either

>All of the people in this thread that haven't heard of and/or played House of the Dead 2

Do yourselves a favor and find a version that you can play through. It's a short game intended to be finished in one sitting so you don't need to find a lot of time to commit to it. You don't need to play 1, but I'd recommend it as well if you end up liking 2.

Your mom's only bought you like 5 nintendy games didn't they?

Whoever wrote this list was born in 1990.

>Games people have vaguely heard or mentioned.

Majora's Mask is amazing but a objective downgrade in every single regard from OOT aside from side quests & atmosphere

What the fuck does this post even mean?

Not even remotely what I meant to say. I'm pretty sure OoT is actually better than MM

I'm seeing heavy Nintendo bias there.
And what the fuck is Tetris doing on that list? I thought it and most of its contemporaries didn't have proper endings but endlessly ramping difficulty until you either lose or the game runs out of memory.

Is there a more normie 90's list than this?

It's more of a "everyone's played it" kind of game

I think every kid should be exposed to secret heavy games like Doom 1/2 and Metroid early in their gaming career otherwise they never develop that "I don't know why I know that wall is actually a secret door but I know it's a secret door" sixth sense.

So any list without one of those needs to be changed.

MGS1 had nice an exciting gameplay, and a more immersive story despite being almost 20 years older, you could actually get lost in the mgs 1 world and investigate yourself, full of nice little details and, dare I say, soul, which is not the same as pressing forward on your gamepad until the next cutscenes starts.

4: Civilization (any, even call to power, but likely IV) Alpha Centauri also works here.
5: Age of Wonders (Master of Magic also counts here)
6: Anno (any, but 1404 / Venice is a good pick)
7: Rollercoaster Tycoon / 2 / Railroad Tycoon / Transport Tycoon Deluxe / etc.
8: Simcity (4, 3000, etc.)
9: Wing Commander or X-Wing type game (likely III, IV, maybe prophecy; tachyon the fringe, x-wing vs tie fighter, etc, all work)

12: Battlezone 98 / Battlezone II

I think you only need one game (or franchise) of each genre; a mario games AND a n indie platformerer is silly imo

If the goal is to understand video games, how they developed and changed over time, and their variety and it's only 15, and its not "omg look at my fucking TASTE bros"

Pong
Spacewar!
Tetris
Pac-Man
Tecmo bowl/Some sports game (You may not like it, but sports simulation is one of the constants of video games, right from pong)
Possibly E.T, something that represents the crash of 83
Battletanks? Is it battletanks? The Arcade that first had 3D wireframes. The one with the urban legend of a castle in the mountains.
Zork/Hitchhiker's Guide
Final Fantasy 1
mario 3/Sonic 1 (it doesn't actually matter which but important to demonstrate platformers and the 16-bit era and I'm running out of fucking spaces, so one or the other)
A pokémon game (and fucking merchandise empire)
Doom
FFX (mostly useful comparison to 1 in terms of tech advancement and development/lack thereof of the genre, and a milestone in the gen itself)
HL2 (same as above, if I had more spaces console FPSes would be included because its an important divergence from their original primacy on PC format)
Wii fit (Fuck I ran out of space, and Wii's divergence from other trends is important to cover)

Didn't even get to 2010. Loads of genres missed. I'd need like 25 to get to modern day and it'd still be like learning about humanity by reading a single page pamphlet.

Reshef of Destruction.

Think simplified Yugioh with a type mechanic, monsters instantly beat the type they’re strong against.
You have 8000 life points and it doesn’t regenerate between duels; some opponents have 20-60000.
There’s a deck capacity mechanic, you start with 1600 and win 1-3 per duel for reference.
Each 3 deck capacity is 1 duelist level — X duelist level is required to use a card of X capacity even if you have the capacity.
You get cards by buying them — they cost thousands of domino while you get 1-100 or so from most fights — or by betting a card.
Betting and selling cards has its own fun gimmick though, as you can’t do either if you own only one copy of the card.
And don’t think you can win cards and use them to easily buy cards either; you can only sell a card for 1/20 of what it costs in a formula related to cost.
Did I mention there’s several 999 cost cards with no elemental weakness that some NPCs use but that you’d have to complete 2781 duels to use?
The cursor also sweeps every single turn and you get bullshit like this; imagine dealing with this for thousands, literally thousands, of duels.

Finished all of them at some point aside from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, FF7, and House of the Dead 2.

THPS2 because I just played the game to fuck around on the maps, FF7 because I really don't care for anything FF, and House of the Dead 2 because I only ever played the game once in an arcade 19 years ago.

>Ocarina of Time
sure
>The Last of Us
???
excuse me, but do I have to play walking simulator number 2346 to be considered a true gamer
do I need to waste 40 hours of my life on a cliche Oscar-bait video game
I'd rather fucking take acid while I'm depressed and experience ego death
I'd rather be captured by North-Korea and get tortured until my mind breaks and there's nothing left of my soul

Never played The Last of Us desu
