Replaying Resident Evil 4 and am now realizing it is an anomaly within videogame history. It simultaneously saved and ruined its franchise. It saved Resident Evil from fading into obscurity with third person genre defining gameplay yet, set the series on a path it wouldn't recover from until Re2make. What an amazing game, yet horrible resident evil title.

RE5 blowing the fuck out of s - o - y boy RE4 fagboys
Whenever people say its a bad RE gaem... this is just nonsense. Its a RE game through and through, they just moved the camera. The controls otherwise are nearly identical.
>Avatar made a billion shekels at the box office so it is good
Retard
5 gets so much hate but I love it. I don't care how stupid it is to punch a rock, the gameplay in 5 is perfection. The amount of control I felt over the battlefield just using precision shots and melee attacks is so damn satisfying. I just hate those goddamn giant cockroaches in the end game. Fuck those guys.
>sales = quality
speaking of söy...
Nigger you were saying that RE4 saved RE when that isn't true, if anything, RE5 saved the franchise.
That makes you angry
It makes you seethe
THAT YOU CAN'T COUNT MORE THAN THREE
>It simultaneously saved and ruined its franchise
While semi true, RE4 sales numbers were so low it didn't save much of anything. The reason RE was " failing " was because it was on the GameCube and wasn't moving units. Things would of been much different if the core games were also on the PS2
The series had also steadily been becoming more and more focused on action with every sequel.

>When a retard says "based retard"
Actual based retard
You have no idea what "saving" meant do you? There were a shitload of bad RE spin-offs that weren't close to the quality of the original, RE 4 was a breath of fresh air. I only liked RE5 because of based Wesker, everything else was just too eh. It was as ridiculous but not self aware like 4
seething retard
don't care what anyone says, but revisiting this made me realize how not good it was. For it's time it was game changing, but it really doesn't hold up like the original REs.
Check your link. The status you posted are incorrect
It only starts sucking after you beat Salazar
Resident Evil 5 is listed three times
>7.5 million units
>2.3 million units
>1.4 million units
Now I shouldn't have to do the math for you, goober.
>don't care what anyone says, but revisiting this made me realize how not good it was
Mate, most hardcore RE fans agree with you.
It holds up fine. Gameplay is smooth, weapon variety and upgrading is fun, treasure system is good, etc. You do realize how linear it is after a few play throughs but it holds up better than any of the other games that came before itx except maybe REmake
Everything past the village is absolute horseshit at worst and below average at best, it's absolutely not one of the greatest games of all time, just because it's influential doesn't mean it's untouchable.
I'm replaying it now and I'm remembering how much I fucking hate the house defense section in 2-2. Probably my least favorite part of the game.
>but it holds up better than any of the other games that came before it
IMO, no. It's one of the few RE games I can't go back and reply. Its just too clunky
The island is all filler save the krauser fight. Game should have immediately gone from your rescue chopper crashing to finding and saving ashley for the last time, but instead it puts like five more enemy filled areas and "press the heavily guarded buttons to unlock the door" minigames in your way. Regenerators and flaming oven guy were great though
I was really late to the RE party. RE4 was my second RE game after the remake. RE4 is fucking amazing though, Despite having low tier graphics, the atmosphere is probably the most amazing out of any game i've played. When it started getting to be night time and stormy, my jaw almost dropped at how amazing it looked.
I've never used tank controls before this game and honestly I like them a bit. They're clunky, but at the same time they feel super good once you get used to them. It was way campier than REmake and I love it for that.
Gameplay flow is almost nothing like the originals, it's far more linear and arcade-like. A natural progression from where 3 was heading, yes, but still a good leap away from the resource management and sense of exploration of old RE.
It wasn't that bad user. Remember the two El Gigantes in the lava room or the tower elevator segments?
Nice Joke... it is Saddlers personal Military... stop trolling you is clearly filler on this planet...
tranny retard
So good I bought it twice
dude RE 4 was a good game but the company wasn't financially nor creatively bankrupt at the time. you're glorifying it too much
he said save the franchise, which is true. capcom considered REmake a flop, and zero worse and re4 reinvigorated it enormously.
i prefer 5
>RE5 blowing the fuck out of s - o - y boy RE4 fagboys
No RE5, RE6, RE7 or RE2 (2019) without RE4
village is the worst part you trog
i'd say the island is worse.
The island has it's moments, but after you fight U3 it pretty much loses its survival horror vibe
>It saved Resident Evil from fading into obscurity
People say this, but RE4 sold like fucking shit, no one seems to remember this.
That's just Gamecube tho, surely the other platforms gave it another million or 2
jesus christ Sheeva actually has huge fucking tits
>bought
imagine them getting grabbed by zombies haha
Not him user, but This is a retarded statement, there is also no RE4 without RE2
Lol I was gonna say the same thing - god RE4 fans are such brainlets (or as I like to call them, niggers)
Yes but that STILL didn't sell as much as RE2 on JUST the PS1 alone and it took the sales of both GC and LATER PS2 to just scrape RE3 numbers (again only PS1 RE3). RE4 was not some huge hit that everyone played at launch like Yea Forums retroactively pretends, and i was there with my day 1 copy of RE4 on CG.
This, RE4 was a """good""" action game if you happened to have played it at the time
It didn't change hearts or minds or revitalize the series - it didn't even help to save the Gamecube which was still outsold by the Xbox
So RE4's legacy is that it's a bad action game that left a series in drift mode, and no, Demake 2 didn't fix anything - it's just RE4 but worse.
Judging the quality of the game by numbers of unit units sold. Wrong logic Mr shekelberg.
It traded off atmosphere for tension.
The new camera angle puts you at the front of the action but also it just lets you see just enough to keep you on your toes.
Currently replaying the Suffering games. I'm playing the first one at the moment and I'm at the part where you have to turn the light on in the lighthouse. I've taken the Evil Route this time around and so I killed Ernesto who would have helped me. I'm incredibly close and at the end of the game. Then I'd like to do it over and take the Good Route. Then I'll jump into the sequel: Ties that Bind. I always loved those games. Since I have two working PS2's I figured why not
>most
nope
Based action horror taste
