Because they're two separate types of games. Minecraft puts more emphasis on survival and building whereas Terraria focuses on item/stat progression and combat.

the only good mods for minecraft are industrial micromanagement ones
it is a completely different game than Terraria and will forever be held back by the fact that modders who are more competent than Mojang have to deal with Minecraft's cripplingly poor performance and lack of a modding API

i think you can argue for the game not in terms of its consistent quality but in terms of its larger artistic contribution to games as a medium. the pacing and style of the game, along with its fresh take on fantasy as a whole opened up a unique area for video games to thrive in
