I don't care how well your house is built you can't escape basic thermodynamics. It doesn't do jack shit, one bedroom in my flat is literally unusable because they didn't build a window on purpose(just a """""""""stylish"""""""""" glass pane you can't open, what a bold architectural choice) and it gets too hot and humid in there to actually sleep.

Oh: and the whole system needs to get serviced regularly anyway so it probably doesn't even save money.

The European guy is correct but for the wrong reason
The use of an AC uses more energy=burning more fuel which might impact global warming but only in countries that still use ''dirty'' fuel. The real danger for it is the refrigerants used in ACs which have a direct link to being one source (of thousands) to global warming. AKA if the gases within the AC units are not contained and stored indefinitely it will cause an increase to global warming. If the gases are ever allowed to reach the atmosphere that is.

Although these refrigerants are used in more than just ACs, like in refrigerators, just not to as large of an extent.
Another thing is that most European hoses have windowsills that are/were not designer to handle the weight of larger AC units which means that they might be damaged from the extra weight applied to them. That and there are just some houses where the windows are simply to narrow to actually fit an AC uint large enough to do its job. If you ever travel to the EU you might notice that most places like resturants and store uses the type of ACs that has two disjointed units working in tandem, connected through pipe systems too transfer heat out to a wall mounted unit outside the house instead.

The weather hit 40C here the other day and it was fucking sweltering hot in my room but my PC was fine with idle temps around the high 40s which is what it normally hangs around anyway. Even in gaming the temps were fine. I doubt anyone would have issues in this heatwave with their PC because don't forget these components are also designed to operate in hot countries too. All that'll happen is the fan RPM would spin up a bit more but you can't even hear the PC fans over a cooling fan in the room anyway.

They're designed for a cold climate, so they perform terribly in summer. Meanwhile, dogshit houses designed to cost as little as possible do very well in summer, because they have no heat retention ability.

UK houses aren't built to withstand heat since it rains over there for 300 days a year. Also most of your houses are old as fuck meaninng they're badly isulated, especially the windows.

Well if you had good insulation and kept the windows closed you wouldn't need A/C.

Except that I do have good insulation, and most homes where I install ACs do too. You turn your AC on at the temp you want and it gets you there in an instant and then it just goes into standby because the insulation means it doesn't have to work as long to maintain temperatures, then there's added benefits like ventilating the air which can be extra helpful if you got a higher end model that helps clean up your environment (I've installed plenty of ACs to people who have asthma or some very specific types of cancer and they've all agreed it has helped them considerably), this shit is also pretty helpful during winters since I no longer have to go around stocking up on wood/pellets/etc to keep my fucking house warm
