Nostalgia fags will still eat it up.

Capcom's been on a redemption streak lately. Maybe they'll make a new one.

The UDON generation of Capcom art is meh.

You gotta be careful with fighting games because you're fighting for the attention of a fairly niche/small audience. Unlike other games where people can play them whenever they want at whatever pace they want, fighting games are dependent on a community that generally only plays a few fighting games at a time staying engaged. If the community is busy playing other games, they won't have time for yours, so it won't sell. Right now we have a gorillion fighting games to play, one of them being a Capcom game itself. It's risky to devoting resources to a new one hoping people take to it.

This. I sincerely hope we get a new one and MvC4 while we're at it.

And a new Onimusha too.

>Street Fighter vs. Darkstalkers
You kind of get the worst of both worlds with a crossover like this, wouldn't you? You have to nerf the Darkstalkers so SF characters can fight them and you lose the grounded nature of SF's world.

Wouldn't they eat up an actual Darkstalkers game then?

Capcom biggest task with a new Darkstalkers would be keep the atmosphere, charm and soul, I have doubts about that.

The games don't sell. The last compilation wasn't considered successful.

>The game, an HD compilation of Darkstalkers 3 and Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge, was released in March 2013 on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Capcom senior vice president Christian Svensson took to the Capcom Unity forums to acknowledge that while the game had appeared in digital bestseller lists, it did not sell enough copies to be considered successful by the publisher.

The merchandise (Morrigan mainly) still sells enough to be worthwhile.

>The games don't sell.
They sold fine on their initial release. Each one made the top 5 of its year's arcade income.

>it did not sell enough copies to be considered successful by the publisher.
Yeah, cause they have retarded expectations. Didn't they consider RE7 a flop cause it didn't do like 7 million in sales?

>HD compilation
Yeah, look at all that glorious HD.

Never played much of the games but the entire series is packed to the brim with 10/10 designs, I just wish they'd use more then just Morrigan. (Who also has an amazing design, it's just that she hogs the spotlight all the time.)

It's hard to think of many other series that rely as heavily on the strengths of 2D animation. There have been some games recently that have made progress in trying to recreate 2D techniques in 3D, but they'd have to go a lot farther to really do Darkstalkers justice.

I don't know why they expect a rehashed older entry to sell like a newer entry would. Everyone could already play these games on emulator, and fightcade even provided retard proof online match making. It's like if Nintendo re-released Zelda 1 on the Switch 2 and decided to make no more Zelda games because it sold under 5 million units.

Because the SF2 and MvC2 ports they released early last gen sold great, so they made a bunch of other ports and expected them to sell as well. None of them did, not SF3, not Jojo, not MvC1, not Darkstalkers.

>dormant IP that has only seen re-releases over a decade gets yet another re-release that manages to still make the top 10 list of most bought digital games of the month it released
>however, this is not enough because it didn't sell as much as street fighter, a nostalgic favorite that pretty much birthed the genre and recently got a long overdue SEQUEL and an HD remake that was a huge hit or Mahvel

At least Udon didn't get to touch Darkstalkers. In hindsight, maybe Darkstalkers would have been better in the long run than Marvel.

Makes sense for MvC2. You can still Dreamcast emulate the game but netplay is a pain. The rest of those games are available on arcade perfect on fightcade so there was really no reason to purchase them again. SF2 probably sold well because of it's immense fame and status.

SF2 is just one of those games that will sell a bunch for even the cheapest barebones rerelease. But Capcom doesn't seem to understand that not every game is ike that.

If they make a new one theyre gonna desecrate the franchise.

It's already been plenty desecrated.

How, exactly?
If you say because of udonshit, im gonna ignore you.

I don't know why you people kept begging for a New Darkstalkers game from Capcom when the previous Fighting Game Division team put out nothing but lackluster titles. You guys would have hated it anyways.
The new team is unproven as they have yet to release anything but I doubt anything substantial or interesting will come put from them.

There's a cross over series where Ryu fucking takes down Gods, elder beings, robots, planet eaters, a mayor, reality bending magicians, a raccoon, mutants, with his fucking fist and a slightly buffed hadoken. I don't think you have to worry about "nerfing" anyone.

No? They considered 7 a success despite selling far less than 5 or 6. Their "crazy" expectations (which were never really that crazy to begin with when you look at their actual forecast reports and not clickbait headliners) have settled down in the last couple of years where they look towards supporting titles through a lengthy lifespan rather than release date sales.
But do gladly keep believing game journos that erroneously reported that they expected Dragon's Dogma to sell 10 million when their forecast reports makes no mention of such a ridiculous target.
