Seems pike one of the few "pure gameplay" genres left and it gets so little play. So many other genres are just movies and casual fodder these days. Clutch moments, great music, and gameplay that's simple to understand but takes time to master. Why don't you play them?
shmups are boring as fuck i'd rather play rhythm games instead

Someone summon MaZe.

>I'd rather do a 2.5 minute long QTE to vocaloid music
To each his own I guess.
Jose Torres
I played them and still do from time to time. I even 1cc lunatic 2hos 7 & 8, but it is tiresome and I am just too autistic to not play on lunatic because I think lunatic is the "intended difficulty". Also getting killed in one hit while the enemy requires hundreds of bullets to get shot down irks me a lot for some reason.
Because they're pure memorization. I'll stick to fighting games, thanks.
Anthony Johnson
UFO is the hardest touhou game, but also one of the worst. ZUN really let everything go to shit and just spammed the player with bullets. It's unwinnable, and anyone who claims to have beaten UFO on lunatic is blowing smoke up your ass. I've never seen a single full replay of a lunatic UFO run, and I doubt one even exists.
Jordan Reyes
yes committing 2 minutes to muscle memory until i can get it right is much more appealing than committing 30 minutes to muscle memory until i can get it right
Lucas Green
Threadly reminder that if you're only just starting with 2hu then LoLK is the best entry-level game for new players to start with. Also the easiest EX boss too.
Have fun anons.

>pure memorization It isn't. It's space awareness.
I like bullet hell games and shmups, I'm not a fan of faggy weeaboos danmaku games, they don't even play like shmups, you're just micro maneuvering your guys retardedly small hitbox as you hold fire
Christopher Lewis
Because I'm a fucking casual. But I want to get into them.
it's the same thing you're just memorizing how much of space awareness do you need
Brayden Parker
I would like to make one but lack the coding skills. I have my art assets.
Angel Roberts
By that logic every is pure memorization you knob.
Grayson Phillips
The two aren't mutually exclusive you retarded weeb
Owen Hughes
Literally second unity tutorial teaches you how to make a very simple shump.
Brody Long
shmups are fun bullet hells are boring, autistic, and weeb
based
Caleb Hernandez
I tried a unity tutorial but it didn't pan out so well.
Brayden Price
Because most people see "bullet hell" and they think "garbage like touhou that's straight pattern recognition and memorization" without realizing half the genre isn't like that. Can't really blame them though, since the half that isn't tends to be low-effort semi-trash instead of high-effort complete trash. Bullet hell in general is just a really shitty genre of shmup.
Dominic Stewart
TD is better than UFO
Josiah Allen
I dislike the difficulty curve in almost all the ones I've played. If I get good enough at the game to actually clear the last few stages, then the first few stages will generally have long since become a mind-numbingly boring slog.
I've also heard people claim that the purpose of most modern shmups are the complex score systems, and I just can't bring myself to care about them. I'm not opposed to score systems in general: I like them in games like Robotron and Berzerk, where your score is mostly tied to how far you're able to progress while completing your objectives. In games with an actual ending, though, I don't really care about finding ways to exploit some arbitrary set of rules and play in what would otherwise be a sub-optimal fashion in order to generate a higher number. I just don't find it to be fun, and with the death of arcades it's not like I'm actually competing against anyone.
