I forgot this was today. I recently bought a famicom and mother to play, so I was aware of this date. Thanks for the reminder.. the series is so great. Mother is a game where, in my opinion, every single track in the ost is good, memorable, and well composed by the musical savantes Keiichi Suzuki and Hirokazu Tanaka. Thanks for the game, Itoi.

I first finally tried this series in 2008 with EB. I tried M1 a couple months after I beat EB and then the translated M3 in 2010. I've loved every bit of the series, even with M1's more annoying gameplay aspects.

M1 is a genuinely great game, the tone and atmosphere it achieves are just amazing. There's really not lot of games out there quite like it and I think the difficulty actually added a bit to the overall tone. It's not a good entry point to the series, but man is it real shame how many people just skip it outright.

Every Yea Forumsedditor goes through a phase where they discover the mother series and think that it's a gift from the gods when they first two games are some of the blandest games imaginable, while the third is just a slightly above average jrpg.

It's nice how EB have those items, like the sign that lets you sell stuff or condiments, yet at the same they are kinda worthless, like a novelty.

Honestly I hate them because they just fill up the inventory. You have more inventory space than mother 1 but I had to keep fucking about in my inventory more in EB just because of how much useless and one-time story use items they give you. It's less of a problem on replays but it's still fucking annoying.

Yeah I really play M1 until Earthbound Beginnings on WiiU VC. But I really enjoyed it and has a rather unique atmosphere due to the less guided nature of it. I liked its version of Magicant more than Earthbound's.
