Just Lysithea and Bernadetta. Former is a walking nuke and there's an accessory that gives mages +1 attack range. The latter is just there to be a locktouch character, don't really like her much post-timeskip. I considered going after Lorenz but ended up saving him for a different route. Had fun murdering him with Dimitri instead this time.

The jaggies and textures in some areas are bad, but the actual models look great and very consistent, and animate well. I'm pleasantly surprised how the game looks in motion.

Nope. I love the game, have over 60 hours in it already, will never defend the visuals though. You get used to it, but I'd never call it good looking. The framerate of the cutscenes isn't the only problem, mouth movements in general look fucking terrible.

Edelgard is insane. The only thing that prevented me from restarting is the fact that I quickly grew attached to five of her units and I wanted to just get this terrible worst ending out of the way first so I never have to suffer it again.

I largely disagree but I will say I think the textures used for the stonework in the monastery look really fucking good for some reason. Like, they fuck up most of the texture work, even within the monastery itself, but for whatever reason the stonework does something for me.

Anyone found a good strategy for reclassing characters? So far it seems to me like you should reclass as soon as possible. Read somewhere that you can build experience for each class and unlock a special skill, which is true, but I haven't found the "meter" for that, so I am not bothering with it, at least not during the earlier classes.

Not a whole lot, but when you ask to recruit them there are a couple of lines for both rejection and acceptance. Units can also come and ask directly to be in your house (normally after a B support with Byleth).

If you get a B support with any character, they will come ask to be in your house regardless of stats. This is how I got Mercedes without touching Bows myself.

I picked her up at level 15 iirc. Raising supports probably lower that level requirement like it does for the actual students though. Also I think a minimal amount of story progression is required, the recruit option for Hanneman didn't show up for quite a long time.

I hate how the game seems designed around Docked first, Handheld second. Instead of focusing on making the models look presentable in Handheld even a foot in front of the player, character models become a jumbled mess of the game's shading and aliasing.

Several of the A rank supports between your units are romantic though it's not all of them. But from what I've seen of the couple of C rank supports I've gotten so far, support conversations are just better this time around. Probably from the smaller cast and how not every character has supports with every other character.

Edelgard makes a strong first impression and Byleth initial evaluation suggest she’s the least evil.

Turned in the game earlier and was faced with the gender choice. Put it to sleep because I realized that this game is going to stress me the fuck out. There's so much customization, and I'm a completionist. The fact that I can't have everything is already driving me crazy before even having to think about changing classes, managing supports, choosing who to pull to my house and actually managing to do so, and even simply not letting people die.

I think I've picked Blue Lions, but from there I just don't know anything. It makes me want to find some kind of comprehensive guide, but maybe . . . Should I just try to let go and roll with whatever happens based on gut instinct?

no. The characters move a bit too quickly for my liking so you can't savor the animations. Plus the animations themselves aren't as soulful

I don't know, hard is "restricted" from grinding thanks to the battle points thing but I still find myself voluntarily throwing away points when I'm done with sidequests/rare encounters so I don't end up too overleveled. Then there's adjutant slots. You can probably level at least a few reserves.

The game will auto that shit if you don't care to manage it, and it will pick the best for them. Authority is for battalions.

Authority is for Gambits.
Really, you'd be fine just with sticking to what each character is initially inclined to. The blue arrows tell you what they excel in and the red arrows tell you what they're bad at. Any stat with three stars by it can become something they'll excel at if you invest in it.

Going with their defaults isn't a horrible idea if you're unsure. Authority is about battalions and gambits.

Hearing about how she's a psychotic killer makes her path sound more interesting to me. I've dispensed justice enough times in RPGs. I'm sure I'll have fun on my second playthrough kicking her shit with the Blue Lions.

It's by far the biggest FE with the most polish and it even has casual mode to ease you in if you need it, so it's a good starting point.

But personally I'd say it's good to try the older games first because they are more "straightforward" but that doesn't mean they're any less good. Really, the GBA games, the Gamecube game (PoR), or Awakening are all decent hopping in points.
GBA are the classics most people start with, Gamecube is the same but with more polish and then you can segue into Radiant Dawn (Wii) which is the sequel to that game and is really fantastic but a bit difficult. Awakening is where a lot of people say the series lost its way, but I think it's still okay. Not bad, not that good either. It does introduce you to how the modern games work so it's not a bad idea.

The other three routes focus heavily on Red vs Blue, where Yellow route focuses on the history/mythos that led the world to the point of Red vs Blue killing each other offscreen while you do unrelated Deerchad things.

There is a quest you can do that requires you to fight some bandits. After you go explore again there will be 2 new merchants in the marketplace that sell bait, seeds, tea and gifts.

A pair of merchants spawn in the marketplace after dealing with your first dark beast.
One sells gifts, the other sells flower seeds and fish bait, amongst other things.

That dark beast fight was super cool, I didn't expect it to have so many interesting mechanics like that

Yes. If you achieve B support with an outsider, they seem to automatically ask to join you after a while regardless of stats.

If you want to poach someone from another house but don't want to waste time on their stat requirements, give them gifts and borrow them for the month to build up support with them. Get B support and they'll ask to join your house ignoring their stat requirements.

You unlock them at professor lvl C btw
