all three to get the mantorok wants to be alone in his room for eternity /ourguy/ ending

Is this just a case of, "It's the fucking GameCube and this is the only horror game we'll ever get out of a Nintendo system, so I'm going to sing its praises to the high heavens"?

No the reddiotors got wind of the game and now we're going to have them shit posting about it for the next month.

RE4?

Just picked up a copy of this in a countryside town that had a second-hand vidya store. My brother had a copy back in the day, but I never got past the first section with the fat moustache guy who can dissect monsters.
My body is ready.
but my sanity is not

When did that happen?
Did someone make a video or article on it?

to some degree but it's not some bullshit 3/10 game like Geist, Eternal Darkness actually has redeeming qualities to it.

Its a genuine good game that shows some age due to it originally being an N64 release

Attached: onmems-288.jpg (2432x1716, 773K)

I never knew that. Neat.

When you stop trying to fit and just play it.

Before I knew that you could actually get Mantorok I went with Ulyaoth, mostly because it's a Metroid, I think that's the one with the lobster/crab black guardian boss.

Good times, I remember Ulyaoth had more control over Pious too compared to the other two.

It was meant to be on the N64, but Silicon Knights ended up spending nearly a decade working on it and ended up launching it on the Gamecube in 2002 instead. It could have looked a lot better if they'd spent another year working on the models and textures, but by this point the game had already been in development since at least 1993.

IIRC the N64 version was actually finished but they made the move to Gamecube literally in the last second because Nintendo wanted more games for it
They made some alterations like the character Joseph De Molay was cut and replaced with Karim due to 9/11
Joseph does show up in the final game in a cutscene and him seeing pass Pious' disguise is a reference to that
For an N64 game, it looked well made for its time

you could try, but you can only do so much with one game unless you branch out and talk about other similar games amidst all the shitposting

we had a drawfag last night who was willing to do requests

Chattur'gha is the easiest because you can restore health much more easily, but really you want a Mantorok playthrough.

I don't exactly hate it, but so far it doesn't seem all that special. Like the setting is nice. The atmosphere of the mansion is all right and reading book pages to transport you into different time periods is a neat idea.

But then it's mostly been one enemy type so far. And those trappers. Everybody gets a sword. Clip the arms. Done.

I started to let my sanity drain because I read you kind of get more out of it. You see more craziness that was put into the game. The things I experienced so far didn't wow me. Once the screen turned off for a second CRT style. Once my limbs came off one by one. There's a woman crying/laughing now constantly - which is annoying. And the character seems to quietly mumble and talk to himself.

Like what do fans think are its strenths? Does the story pick up later on? Does the magic system go ham? Are the sanity effects mindblowing? What?

I thought it was pretty good classic RE style game. I enjoyed the way you could target specific body parts in combat, it's a really nice element of control which was not usually present in this type of game.

Did anyone else get fucked as much as Anthony did? At least he saved Charlemagne's life.

Attached: 643660-ant.jpg (483x480, 82K)

Well the graphics are the least of my problems with it. I actually think it looks pretty nice overall. Even great in places.

For the most part you have to purposefully go out of your way to experience the sanity effects. Or be really, really bad at the game.

Game really picks up once you figure out magic and that it transfers between characters with the tome.
You PARGON should PARGON be PARGON abusing PARGON magic PARGON relentlessly.

Ulyaoth seems to be the canon playthrough considering his presence throughout the game, he also seems to be the closest to Mantorok in terms of power as well, considering sometimes his creatures will glow purple as well.

What's really interesting is what the Yellow Ancient would have been. Mantorok was the Corpse God/Purple and involved undead and fertility and even had his own ulterior motives, but Yellow also does this as seen with Charlemagne and other's. You'd think Yellow would have been a Keeper of the Ancients a light to Mantorok's Darkness/Chaos, but they both appear to just be Chaos and Undeath.

Near the end, around chapter 10 or so. Or maybe never. See, this game is built around a certain point, implicitly conveyed through the way it is made and gleaming through pretty much everything in it. Around chapter 10 is more or less where it should come together.

Hint: it is not about Ancients and other Lovecraftery at all. Rather those serve as monikers for something else. In fact the game kinda implies in one place, Ancients were once human beings themselves, thus them being uncharacteristically petty.

Its the sun

That's probably just the ancient people humanizing them

if eternal darkness were released right now when "lovecraftian" horror is at its highest peak, and DDLC/Undertale made 4th wall breaking horror extremely popular with kids, it'd be one of the most popular games of all time.

The architect in the tower
>pushed into a "well" filled with corpses and people currently dying from being pushed in

I like the story and atmosphere
The sanity effects are usually hit or miss
Honestly, with HD rumble they'd work wonders

i dont know if this is unfortunate or fortunate given the current climate

Spiritual successor that got kickstarted tried that. It didn't work out.

Attached: shadow-of-the-eternals-canned.jpg (1200x800, 178K)

Yeah, could be seen that way as well, I guess. I view them however in the context that the real culprit is time itself, meaning, one day, one way or another, the heroine will die, like all of her ancestors once did, which immediately makes Ancients themselves pretty much assclowns, and the murals, read as reveal of their origins, really fitting.

Bitch on the left reminds me of the villain of Delgo

Yellow IS Order.

At every point you see Yellow Magic in the game, it leads to certain things that not only disrupt the Three Ancients, but also Mantorok. Because Yellow is Order it wants to keep the equilibrium in check, which also means helping Mantorok out. Mantorok feeds himself from Ul, Chat, and Xel's quarrel, the chaos of it all, and if one of them should break through the veil and grow more powerful as we see through the game, it hurts Mantorok and ruins the natural balance and order of things.

Yellow needs to this eternal cycle to constantly be present, or at the very least guides things to such a degree that now all Three Ancients are supposedly dead, Mantorok will slowly die from its chaos and Order has been restored. Thing of Yellow as unspoiled magic, it has yet to be corrupted. Such as when monsters fall in battle it becomes yellow, they return to the natural order of things, before the Ancients have put their stamp on things, just as barriers are naturally yellow in game too, to protect certain things and order.

Remember it was Yellow Magic that transported Pious in the first place. Everything in the game was actually Yellow's Order, to reset the balance by having the other Ancient's killed in a fight thinking they were in control. Just as with Charlemagne, it leads to future events that usurp the entire plan that Mantorok and Pious had set in motion.

Balance/order must be obtained.

Its actually sad because this looked good with some of the visual effects, especially with Elizabeth Bathory being one of the major antagonists.

>It didn't work out.
It did work out because one of the devs got done for being a pedo.

If ED came out today, it'd be less Buffy and more Stranger Things

game kinda had a problem of too many protagonists that all played very similarly and even re-visited locations as they slightly changed.

Actually that was found out after the Kickstarter failed
It failed because of Denis Dyack's reputation

Attached: DqVDaS-X0AA9Gdp.jpg (1024x854, 337K)

Paragon
Paragon
Paragon
paragon

IIRC they didn't revisit the temple a third time because at that point, they were sick of it

Too Human is what got shit canned, it eventually led to the Pedophilia being discovered and Dyack being notoriously found out for embezzling funds from said kickstarter and other projects and mistreating employees.

He tried to bring back SotE once again under a new company which quickly went under. He's currently under some new company hew made and put out a base game called Deadhaus Sonata or something like that.

There are still hopes for it, but it's extremely doubtful considering ED was already niche as hell, someone else would have to pick up the reigns for Dyack in place of that, which would be the best thing at this point. Part of the issue too is that Nintendo still holds a patent over the Sanity System.

Rightfully so.
NO DYACK should have been in large font bolded at the top of the Kickstarter page.

luther was a chad priest. he just had the misfortune of running into an absolutely OP boss without having access to guns like peter did centuries later.

I have played almost every classic survival horror there is, but somehow I missed ED. Finally played it for the first time last December, and it is one of my top games ever now.

Guns aren't even what kills the Black Guardian, its magic that does him in ultimately. Even then by that point the Black Guardian was way stronger than what Luther encountered. Luther could have killed the Black Guardian had he been smart about things and not gotten flattened immediately.

Don't care if you fags don't believe me, but I'm friends with Brad Furminger who was lead level designer on the game. I've learned a few tidbits about ED, can share more if there's interest:
>Miyamoto gave the designers the advice "you need keys that are not keys" (he likes the riddle stuff so you figure out the answer on your own), which led to the team switching from constant keys for progression to using swords, spells, fixing a broken key, as progression
>The game had a different magic "economy" (the way in which you gain mana) and Nintendo told SK to change it to the current state, even though SK knew players could just run around in circles to get mana back. The team hated it
>During development Nintendo found a debug room that was textured with SK team members with shopped nipple tassels. Nintendo was pissed
>The team hated working on the N64 and was grateful for the console switch
>Iwata was involved in helping the team adjust content after 9/11 (the Syria chapter was adjusted, you can find this on Unseen64)

Attached: 6_21.jpg (640x480, 72K)

When you start liking psychological horror.

What are you guys talking about? Yeah you can find a Mantorok rune half-way through the game but there's no Mantorok playthrough.

>At least he saved Charlemagne's life.
No he didn't. Charlemagne was fucking dead when he got there.

The rise of technology did serve as a counter to the Ancients in some degrees though
Mantorok made the surrounding area lifeless and rendered the ground asunder to prevent Pious from revisiting it
What allowed Pious to go back?
He got help from an adventurer who saw the damn thing via satellite imagery

share more please

Back in 2003
>BY IGN STAFF Nintendo today announced that the rights have been purchased to make a television show or feature film based on the GameCube title Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Production company Hypnotic, which bought the license, will also head up development, financing, production and distribution of the television show or movie, according to Nintendo.

ign.com/articles/2003/06/27/eternal-darkness-tv-show-or-movie

Looks like Nintendo was hoping for ED to be a big hit

>>The game had a different magic "economy" (the way in which you gain mana) and Nintendo told SK to change it to the current state, even though SK knew players could just run around in circles to get mana back. The team hated it
Do you know what the original design was?

Also, whose idea was mana recovery spell with a net effect of zero?

Yes, but actual weapons didn't hurt the ancients all that much, sure it helped compared to blades, but ultimately it was counter magic that did them in.
To be fair on some of these, if it wasn't for the way the magic worked in the final release the game may have been have hard progression stops that prevented it from being completed, and the debug room was kind of stupid of them to do in the first place since it had no barring on any of the enemies in the game whatsoever.

I really should download dolphin and get the rom for it. The last time I played it was during the american(?) Revolution chapter

This is neat
elderprops.com/eternal-darkness/

>The team hated working on the N64
Thats a given so late in N64s life cycle. So you don't know what you can put onscreen before the game chokes, so anything you want to be on there has to be tested.
And it steals a lot of time, on top of not looking that great.

Ulyaoth didn't seem to like fucking around it seemed. He also said despite being weaker than Mantorok as the other two were, he's the only one of the three that has complete dominion over his shit. Only he can gain back magic.

Ok. I've also got some Twin Snakes stuff.
>Once Nintendo met SK for lunch, a young employee was brought alone to get a business meeting experience. Nintendo suits came in, looked at the table and left. The translator later told the team that in Japanese culture, doing something like that is considered "strongarming", since SK would have more people there to pressure in an argument
>Too Human in its PS1 form was close in gameplay to Syphon Filter, and many team members didn't like the switch to a Diablo thing. Brad left before TH came out and before and after release there was many layoffs including anyone who didn't agee with Dyack on things
>People have been speculating in this thread what the yellow magic represents. Brad wouldn't tell me, and says only he, Dyack and about five other people know. But apparently the clues are all in the game
>He doesn't know who owns ED rights anymore. Presumably Nintendo?
I can't remember, but I'll see him in a week so the next time I see an ED thread (somehow never seen one in my years on Yea Forums) I'll say it.
This was years before SK had an HR department

Max had the best chapter, the autopsy stuff was super cool, especially as he just slowly went crazy on his own.

Nintendo owns Eternal Darkness
They keep renewing the trademark and patented the sanity meter but never do anything with them

>This was years before SK had an HR department
Wasn't my point so much that it was a poor use of resources when it came to debugging. If you're going to debug it would make more sense to use the actual assets in the game than it would be to create entirely new assets and resources in which to debug with.

max was the highlight of the game honestly

Alex was a spirit in the new Smash Bros. Her spirit battle was Zero Suit Samus in a black outfit and you fight her in a spooky mansion where she keeps flipping your screen upside down. It was neat.

Nintendo owns ED and the Sanity Meter, they always re-up the patents and trademarks for it when they run out, I'm hoping eventually they'll just hand it over to Retro or some shit.

I liked the sanity God best. I think it was the female one?
I remember when you inspect the bathtub and BOOM; your suicided body. Scared the hell out of me when I saw it first time.
I tried to emulate it recently but the targeting limb system is fucked so I can't get through the tutorial bit. Makes me sad.

Honestly I loved that game, it was super comfy and Zelda-like at times, but had dinosaurs and some of the environments were really nice to go through. It had a lot of problems, but it's a fond memory of mine.

>The SK team wanted to revamp more of MGS1s level design and add new areas but Kojima wanted it a 1:1 remake
>The team also knew FP mode would break the game and wanted to adjust the levels to match but Kojima didn't want it
>Kojima was pretty hands-on with development
>Konami showed the SK team tricks like doing reflections by mirroring a room underneath
>Brad described Konami's answer to problems as 'Square peg, round hole' and that they generally would just throw money at things instead of being smart about it
>Brad helped with localization and said there was nothing harder than scripting codecs, which were done in Lua and had to be shifted for every language, especially verbose ones like German
>Brad and a bunch of other SK employees laughed when they saw Dyack's new game
>When Blood Omen came out SK got a lot of letters from people who had turned the game off after dying as Kain in the beginning (it's a scripted loss so he can resurrect as a vampire). After ED they also got mail about people who were mad about dying as Pious at the beginning, who had restarted and tried different stuff so as to not die

Attached: eternal darkness N64 beta roman pius.jpg (640x480, 64K)

>When does this get good?

Final battle. Eternal Darkness is a pretty bad game that for some reason got MASSIVELY overhyped, however it does have quite a cool final battle sequence so if you're late in the game you might as well see it all the way to the end.

I'm reading
Have to go now though

I always felt it deserved a remake

Felt good for Eternal Darkness to be remembered

Attached: 1479925009221.jpg (861x929, 287K)

>I always felt it deserved a remake

It does. Eternal Darkness is in the category of games that's ideal for a remake/reboot: games that had cool ideas and alot of potential, but didn't execute it well. It's precisely the sort of game that's ripe for a second attempt.

That's about par for the course with Kojima/Konami, fun remake for what it is though, and all codecs are done in Lua.

As for BO and ED I can totally understand butthurt people being upset at that and not even continuing playing, people are still like that these days.

People are fucking stupid sometimes.

then who instigated the death of sadpanda

So did Alex go insane in the end?

Attached: 1448231479259.jpg (800x1067, 568K)

But do you really have any faith in the modern game industry to remake anything?

Imagine an Eternal Darkness remake with loot boxes.

>uh-oh, looks like your sanity meter is low!
>bet you won't see this sanity effect coming
>feeling crazy yet?
I appreciate the concept but blatant predictability in a horror game ruins atmosphere and immersion. Make that shit invisible.

Nintendo Remakes are usually quality

Attached: 71D.jpg (740x555, 196K)

Well, what makes it work is that you can never tell.
Some of it is blatant.
But some of the sanity effects is more novel, like finding ammo for AK47s.

Probably not.
Nintendo is pretty decent at keeping their IPs relatively in check. Especially as Amiibos have drifted mostly out of use.

Just depends on which team under Nintendo would do it. If it's their main ones it'd be dumbed down pretty heavily and be a poor more kid friendly horror variant. If it was something like Retro we'd probably have way more lore and weird shit. Like Chattur'gha Science Team has vapor for brains.

How would you feel about Amy Hennig writing a future installment?

Attached: 1448168212939.jpg (550x500, 172K)

what order would that bring, it only serves to corrupt the entire universe with this brand of newfaggotry & a lack of decent threads

Nintendo just makes rehases over and over, of course they can't do anything with an actual interesting IP.

Would fucking love it honestly. I remember she was writing a Star Wars game and that got canned, so sad.
She wrote the Soul Reaver games and Uncharted.

I got mad too, but after the next character died too I just accepted that every character I play as will die

Sound design, story, atmosphere, voice acting are really great. The sanity effects work extremely with the idea of what a horror game should be, but they oscillate between novelty and quality quite often.
Magic system is cool, but not brilliant.

is she still working on games? last I heard she left Naughty Dog because of the way Uncharted 4 was turning out

A couple more:
>The SK team wasn't interested in developing for the Wii so the plan was to return to ED down the line (RIP)
>However around 2007 SK was asked by Konami to make a Silent Hill game, codenamed The Box. Brad was on the project and told me that it only got as far as preliminary talks so it didn't go anywhere, but SK shopped it around to other publishers and did have a prototype. IIRC it was first person. Of course Dyack laid off the whole team before it got anywhere.
>Back then designers and programmers would do most of their own QA until the end of the project, but many artists supposedly never played the game, they'd just submit their art
>Last time I saw Brad he said he went through his basement and threw out a wine glass with the ED logo left over from the launch party

Attached: eternald1.jpg (320x240, 23K)

>But do you really have any faith in the modern game industry to remake anything?

No, but at the same time I think modern videogame industry HAS to change massively within ~5 years. Either it collapses into a black hole of infinite greed and stupidity and vanishes from Earth, or it will reform itself and start making good, entertaining games again instead of skinner boxes. It can't possibly survive the way it is now.

Sorry guys for making that thread, I didn't expect it to backfire like this, but I should have known better since this place only shits on games.
Sorry.
I'll keep summoning Kek'pepeth until we get ED2 tough, fuck the zoomers.

Attached: 1564132750584.png (916x648, 2.27M)

I don't think the money gouging is going anywhere. Too many people eat that shit up, gaming is WAY bigger than it has ever been and growing. The upside is that indie devs and smaller teams are filling in the gaps and making great stuff without that shit, especially the teams with AAA veterans.

Ulyaoth was running the USSR

I should clarify, by this I mean that many of the artists at SK never actually played ED or Twin Snakes.

Deep into that darkness peering.
Long I stood there,
Wondering. Feering. MAY THE RATS EAT YOUR EYES!!!!
>Beat the game with the red guy and realize you can get Mantorok if you beat it with all of them
>Beat it again with the remaining two
>No option to get Mantorok

Wtf? I beat this game four times, I went Red Green Blue Red and still no purple option.

Did anybody else laugh out loud in the church level when you walk up to the Lobster boss (RED) and he just crushes your guy instantly? I was expecting an epic boss fight and just got smeared into the ground.

some of this stuff reminds me of when Capcom had Ninja Theory develop DmC, and they had to drag Itsuno over to try and not fuck it up completely since DmC was like a complete departure from the older titles

Attached: 1557732305659.png (960x540, 507K)

Read the Schrier articles on Bioware. Seems like it happens everywhere.

I'll look into it. Reading about how Itsuno had to work with NT on DmC was a fun read, like the east meets the west or rather an expert trying to explain to amateurs

Attached: nt and itsuno.png (701x909, 61K)

Both will happen. Some companies are going back to their bread and butter and trying to change slowly (Capcom is a relatively good example, they're at least trying these days), but then you still have EA and their "surprise mechanics" by trying to outsmart world governments.

Chattur'gha was, he was red and all about brute strength and might.

Shortly after you power up the gamecube

wait what
who gave the scroll to anthony then ?
pious wasn't even subtle in killing charlemagne
>just send some cultists bro
also why

Not him but I would assume its because they thought nothing of a yellow god and another ancient. I mean his presence wasn't known and yellow is being associated with every single ancient as well, probably didn't think much of it and just found a scroll with yellow magic, so he assumed it was like, generic ancient magic.

xel'lotath is the most based playthrough, the game is best with low sanity and also the xel'lotath zombies can all be lit on fire

Well you also have to remember that yellow bro was removed from the game due to time.

Likely it might have been part of his plot or something or that he can do everything all the other god's can. If he is order it might stand to reason that maybe originally the 3 were one, which was yellow.

>But one of the things we lightly touched upon, and some people have discovered, there actually is a fifth Old One in the game that's really alluded to, which is the proponent of yellow magic. And explaining that stuff and the mythos, there's a lot more to tell, [like] why have the Ancients been imprisoned, those kinds of things. It's just the tip of the iceberg, where we need to expand the universe and stuff. There's a lot more to tell."
you learn something new every day
and it will never be expanded upon

Sadly not. I think their intention was that there was an Order God or a more chaotic yellow Mantorok. Who knows, either way Pious never would have led to all this, the Gods dying, and Mantorok weakening if not for the yellow magic in the first place.

I always figured us humans were meant to be the "yellow zombies".

>Forgetting that Ulyaoth said there has never been balance
Also, the yellow magic seemed subservient to all the other Ancients. Pious even actively used it for the scroll intended for Charlemagne, and later the damaging floor in Ehn'gha.

They didn't really have a reason to revisit it more than twice.

that's a good one

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 18K)

That actually seems to use Antorbok and Aretak, which would be "Project" and "Creature" respectively. That's not even a spell that can be used in the game.

I hate how he tried to latch onto gamergate to try and salvage his reputation.

ye you're right I misread project with protect
sounds like a possession spell of some sort

That just means its more intelligent and has magic similar to Mantorok. Thing of it this way. There has never been order because the other Ancients exist and Mantorok is over them as Chaos.

Maybe that was it's plan in the first place, to send Pious to one of the Ancients, have it break out, Mantorok to conspire an entire plan to kill the other 3, but ended up weakened in the process and now the Ancients aren't battling, meaning no more chaos for him to feed off of and he'll die.

You don't have to be more powerful, just more intelligent.
Project Creature: Insanity

Maybe it's projecting an insanity effect onto Anthony, making him believe he's undead, or could be projecting Mantorok onto him.

Remember you can't summon Mantorok's zombies, he's too weak, so where do the Mantorok Zombies come from? Maybe the yellow god is capable of using everyone's shit, he's just weaker at it because of that.

you are late to the party lad, if you didn't back then on a crt you missed out and the experience won't be the same

user, they're all canon. All of the routes are canon because they play in different timelines created by Mantorok on purpose. He did it so that when they are done killing each other, Manatorok will combine the three separate timeline back into one where all of the ancients are dead. He did this so he can become the most powerful ancient of them all since if the ancients are not in that universe, Mantorok will continued to grow stronger.

In order it's, Pargon-Pargon-Aretak-Xel'lothath-Pargon-???-Antorbok.

So it's a Project Creature Insanity Spell. So either it means Anthony just died and what we saw wasn't real, or that like Ulyaoth who can also use Mantorok/Purple magic, Xel'lothath can use Yellow magic. Which means Chattur'gha likely uses an unheard of Orange magic.

At this point you're entirely theorizing. The yellow Ancient might actually be weaker than all of them and thus largely irrelevant. Its artifact may even already be destroyed.

The Mantorok zombies were probably in parts of the world/realms before he was sealed, or Mantorok can barely push them through himself. The fact that Pious can use Mantorok-aligned spells also means that it's possible the main three Ancients called upon the Mantorok-aligned zombies. Finally, Anthony was absolutely turned into a zombie in reality. Luther encounters him later on, and the scroll doesn't appear to have any Mantorok rune on it.

Well Xel says to make sure Charlemagne is dead or insane, or both. Which is likely what happens to Anthony, considering his actions in Luther's story.

Project Creature might be turning something into your minion. Like how project-item projects the power of the ancient into it, Xel's spell could be projecting one of her creatures inside Anthony. There might just be influence from outside sources.

That's already what Bind Creature does though, and that uses the Bankorok (Protect) rune.

>At this point you're entirely theorizing. The yellow Ancient might actually be weaker than all of them and thus largely irrelevant. Its artifact may even already be destroyed.
Of course, but that's really all we can do. I mean we know there is a fifth god and that likely he's working from behind the scenes. Just makes sense to me that it can use all the abilities, but they're weaker variants, so its outsmarting the rest rather than going head on like Mantorok.

Would be a nice anti-thesis to Mantorok who is the strongest and has his own special magic, yellow would be all of them combined, just far weaker. It's honestly just really sad we'll never get anything more, let alone a spiritual sequel of any kind by anybody, even just for the simple lore.

I think he meant more projecting a creature inside an object, not outright controlling one. Like me projecting a trapper inside your brain, rather than binding it to go through a crack in the wall.

Attached: Nintendo_Power_164_0073.jpg (2484x1620, 679K)

Doesn't matter what the rune says.

>"One of the things that I talked about—and maybe we have to be not as subtle in the next one—but the yellow magic did represent something. And a lot of people didn’t notice that. So wherever there was yellow, there was a representation of another Ancient One that we haven’t talked about yet."
The Anthony/Charlemagne spell was clearly influenced by the Fifth Ancient, for why or what reason we'll never know.

I played through it a bunch but it was always after years of playing. I just watched that stuff on youtube, I did get the Mantorok rune however.

The Bonethieves already fill that role though.

If her minions are unthinking, how does she control them? That's the entire reason she can't do shit to Chattur'gha, he doesn't think and is mindless.

>pay attention to the detective
This has to be before the game released right? I know he was originally intended to be a bonethief boss fight but it was cut.

January 2003 issue
Months after the game come out

Guys we know what the Yellow Ancient was. It's been stated that his stuff was repurposed into Mantorok. It's why he's superior and inferior, and why a lot of the yellow stuff is unaligned or involves death.

All the zombies and death shit was originally the Yellow Ancient, Mantorok was originally just supposed to be something else entirely.

Every game with fourth wall breaking stuff becomes a "cult classic", it doesn't matter how shit everything else in the game is. See Undertale for instance.

It's neat to see how some ideas were different in development. Pious hadn't been offered the higher ranks in Roman society as opposed to turning them down, and Timur (possibly) wasn't Pious in disguise at the time.

>In 2019, a prototype of Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube briefly surfaced. CVLT OF OSIRIS was temporarily given access to the prototype for analysis. Do you have a source for this?

I do remember in 2013 Nintendo off-handedly mentioning something about digital ED or a remaster, something like that.
Couldn't tell you, its been ages since I read that, probably an interview with Dyack.

very believeable, the n64 was made notoriously hard to develop for, intentionally. nintendo thought it would "weed out" the bad programmers to stay off their system and not make shitty games for it. how ironic.
>>Miyamoto gave the designers the advice "you need keys that are not keys" (he likes the riddle stuff so you figure out the answer on your own), which led to the team switching from constant keys for progression to using swords, spells, fixing a broken key, as progression
very believable, kind of top level advice you'd get from some hack like miyamoto
>>The game had a different magic "economy" (the way in which you gain mana) and Nintendo told SK to change it to the current state, even though SK knew players could just run around in circles to get mana back. The team hated it
very believable, nintendo loves to shoot their good games in the foot and shoehorn in shitty mechanics like that

Nintendo has the rights to it, cant it just get a fucking port? I dont want to dig my GC out again.

maybe the source code is lost somewhere?

It will never not baffle me that these companies can lose source codes.

According to Phil Spencer, the original Donkey Kong Country games being rereleased is a Nintendo/Microsoft collaboration
Odds are Silicon Knights still had the code but they're dead now

Pious in the hunter's outfit from Bloodborne, except still with his cool helmet.

Ah, probably the last cool tidbit I learned. Whenever Dyack said stupid shit, everyone at SK collectively sighed. They'd been telling him to get someone else for PR for years. Finally it caught up to him.

Thank you for your service

By studying astronomy and figure out the exact date?

They still have the source code and prototypes laying around that are identical to the release version.

3 weeks before the Switch was unveiled they re-registered the patents and trademarks for "downloadable electronic game software". I would imagine they're just trying to properly figure out a good way to do GCN VC without it borking on their consoles, which probably isn't going to be until their next console considering they already said no VC on Switch, which is understandable given the architecture of it, at least for GCN games.

Why not just romhack ED and build a new game with new shit? People do it all the time with other games? At this point its all we are getting.

Okay, one more. The Epic Games lawsuit. Apparently SK actually had a case on their hands. Epic was witholding tech for their own games because they didn't necessarily want competition when it came to pushing games as tech demos (I imagine they stopped this practice around this time). SK tried to sue, and when the courts examined things it came to light that SK had stolen some Unreal code and was using it in The Box, the game I mentioned earlier. When that was found out, anything SK had on Epic was moot.

Anyway, pic related is my autographed copies of Twin Snakes and ED. Brad had old Twin Snakes design documents but he gave them away to someone else.

I have a DeviantArt but I usually don't put deliveries on it, because I consider the art the property of the requester, and not me, unless I put a genuinely significant amount of effort into a piece or something. If you think it's a good idea I can put these requests there anyways, or make some other page to put them on, maybe. I do keep saved files of all my work, however.

Which ancient had your favorite enemy?

Post in the draw threads when this thread inevitably goes does.

This gives me a JoJo vibe, that the Ancient is actually Pious' stand.

Xel'lotath Horrors
Ulyaoth Black Guardian
Chattur'gha Himself (mostly because he's interesting in that his monsters have more of a carapace than he does, and he's showing bits of his skeleton, so maybe he and Ulyaoth fought in the past)

Max had it pretty rough because he was one of the few to actually survive but was just left to rot in a state of fear and madness.

Attached: 1520804136829.jpg (660x333, 25K)

To be fair, for as right as he was, he was slowly going crazy over it. You can hear it in his ramblings during autopsies. Hell all the secret passageways, like to get the Tome near the Library were likely built within the time period between the end of his chapter and him being locked up, which is part of the reason I imagine he was locked up in the first place by his family, well that and all the 'murder' he caused.

Also fun fact, he is voiced by Porkins from Star Wars.

What music does Pious listen to?

It's almost like companies change their policies over the course of nearly 20 years or something

In public, opera/piano classicals, in private he's jamming to shit like Bon Jovi Runaway as he watches Alex around the Mansion and other 80s hit songs.

I like that it's implied that he was actually correct about there being bonethieves hidden among his staff, but he was just so far gone by that point that he murdered multiple people for fear of missing the one culprit.

Attached: eternaldarkness_max.jpg (460x345, 29K)

What I want to know is how he avoided capture for three months before being locked away, or even the being hung for how many murders he committed, or why he didn't just try his best to bust down towards En'gha just to prove he was right, even if there were barriers, that'd help his story.

>why he didn't just try his best to bust down towards En'gha just to prove he was right, even if there were barriers,
The police were also bonethieves

It really makes you think why they even let Alex near the Mansion in the first place. If the Detective is meant to be a bonethief and most of the town (as in most Lovecraftian Villages), what was their point of letting her anywhere near there knowing the history? Let alone not just storming the place after she started progressing big time?

>Its just a college student
>What can she possibly do?

I wonder how many politicians were bonethieves.
>WW1 happened just so they could feed a monster in a church basement.

Attached: Bonethief_(Ulyaoth).jpg (500x375, 41K)

I had fun with this one, I hope it is close enough to what you were going for

Attached: Roomies.png (1344x756, 3.88M)

Not OR but this is great

and WW2? imagine if an Ancient somehow got hold of a nuke

Nothing. The dude was a pure workaholic with no sleep whatsoever, enslaved by the Ancients and slowly having his own will replaced with theirs.

Well the Greater Guardian was dead by the time WW2 came around. Charlemagne was murdered to ensure a fractured Europe. WW1 happened because the Greater Guardian needed more human tendies. Pious became a warlord in the middle east just so he could make a tower out of humans. No telling what else happened because the Ancients wanted it that way.

Attached: Greater_Guardian_(Ulyaoth).jpg (500x375, 47K)

What was the tower even for?
Was it just for the Ancients to metaphorically show off?

Part of the whole summoning ritual I believe.

That's pretty fun. I should've responded to this thread earlier. It's even got a cute joke in the image.
I really liked ED, but I should mention that the game was pretty fucking poorly made in a lot of ways. Not that I mind, since I actually like practicaly every major title Silicon Knights ever made, including Too Human. I'm actually super mad it never got finished, cuz I like techno-vikings.

Oh, art user, i'll have to make a request of you next thread.

WW2 happened so Jews would go back to Israel so the Flesh Pillar could end up getting more immigrants and workers.
Blood Sacrifice like most things, probably to increase the Ancients Power to break through.

Because, presumably, the Tome needs to have a holder and a reader in the same way that most major evil relics need to be 'used' for the creator's power to enter the world. While the Tome is a creation of Mantarok's, I think, one could argue that Mantorok(?) and the tome had enough residual power to further the dimensional rift enough to allow the dark gods to enter more easily.
That is, while the Tome of Eternal Darkness does allow you to counteract the machinations of the Dark Gods it also gives them power by simply being an ancient relic of impossible evil.

>Why do I got to sit on the floor guys, this isn't fair, I'm the corpse god

These three will be on the back-burner so to speak, if I have time I'll get to them today, otherwise I'll put them off till tomorrow. Either way they'll get done.

thanks in advance if you do manage to do my request (the punk Alex)

also if you do finish it and the thread is dead, I recommend leaving it in the Drawthread so I check the Booru if someone uploads it there

Will do, that's a good idea.

Which playthrough is the hardest? Which one is the easiest? I've only played it once.

Xel'lothat is easiest, then Ulyaoth, then Chattur'gha.

Isn't that just modern video games?

Come up with an idea for ED chapter

You play as a Mantorok Trapper escaping from Cambodia into the tunnels during Vietnam to bring back some lone soldier. Everyone ends up thinking he's crazy due to Agent Orange and soldier experiments. Alternate timeline where Mantorok is the main champion and the other Ancients are trying to bind him without a Pious.

Victorian London during the time of Jack the Ripper. You play as Jack who is going around killing Bone Thieves that have taken over the local populace, primarily women to lure men into their blood sacrifices. Springheeled Jack is typically seen, when its actually one of the Guardians sent to survey London for the inevitable Bombings during the World Wars to help aid the Ancients.

you play as Franz Kafka, who gets a government job pushing papers in Prague. your supervisor is Pious in disguise. Franz wisens up to pious's machinations when he discovers the tome of eternal darkness and unlocks bureaukratic magik which he uses to sabotage Pious with increasing complex paperwork

What were the main articles on Dyack besides the
>Kotaku
article (which was long known for mudslinging and whose author on the Dyack piece never coughed up his sources)?

That's pretty impressive for N64. Reminds me of those amazing Shenmue Saturn screenshots. Devs used to squeeze so much out of the hardware then. By the end of the gen games looked half as good as the early next gen releases.

And saved

Do you really trust Dyack after X-Men Destiny and Too Human?

Mine are probably Max's and Roberto's. I don't like the ruins in general and the chapter is kinda dragging. But it has a pretty cool end. >SILENCE, DOG!

Roberto, Michael, Elia (not as much as the other two, Pillar of Flesh sucks all around)

It never really gets good, but it never really gets bad either. It's comfy like that.

>every reviewer spoils all the interesting shit without warning

Wait wait wait, you do this game by getting only one of them? I always did a run where I got them all :0

you eventually get them all ( well not really )
the one pious gets first is the thing everyone's referring to

All of them are collected throughout the story, but your first choice as Pious determines the main villain, then you get NG+ basically where you can pick the others as Pious for alternate stuff and eventually a little bonus ending.

Ahh! Thanks Yea Forumsroes. It's been years.

Capcom (higher level than Insuno) contacted NT and it was Capcom pushing for complete redesign of the game to fit the Western market. Second. No Japanese advisors touched anything in the game code and content. They explained the ideology of the previous DMC games. And if they ended up barking commands in a CONTRACTED studio, as it seems to be the case from their writeups, then it is no wonder DmC ended up being essentially a giant fuck you to, a spot on deconstruction of the main DMC series FROM THE ARTISTIC POINT OF VIEW (bet you don't even get, until you read to the end of this sentence, that is, that Donte is framed as unreliable narrator until as much as an exchange scene, which is a crucial point without understanding which it is impossible to understand either DmC's point or what it has to do with main DMCs).

There is a short, 10+ minute, video with NT/Tameem's take on making of DmC

I highly advise you to watch it.

In other words, from what I understand, NT and redesign choices were SUITS' decisions, and some fucking Japanese rating was, let's just say, not their primary concern with this game at fucking all.
