we all die

Like every Tuesday?

Why would it shut down, Valve just sits on their ass getting millions, no one there even works anymore.

steamdrones get put on suicide watch

PC gaming would become fragmented once again at the same level as it has been before Steam became the go-to for PC gaming digital distribution

I don't really play PC but I can definitely see the adverse effects that it would have for those of you who do play it. Everybody would go to different routes at that point but pcgaming wouldn't be as healthy I believe

Tencent via China buys Valve Corporation.

life shut down

Some of my save files might be affected but otherwise, almost no difference

games that i have installed would be fine since all they need is a crack
everything else would be gone i guess

Yeah Valve definitely ties everything for PC gaming together. If they were to shut down suddenly, it would turn chaotic, with tons of services rushing to try to capture whatever market share that Steam left behind. It wouldn't be fun.

Funniest thing I’ve read all day

Paying more than $10 billion when you already invested in a failed store via Epic? On top of that Valve is dipping their toes into VR, doubt there in a hurry to do anything like that.
At least until Gabe leaves/dies, then it's definitely being sold off.

This. The day Steam dies is the day I stop paying for PC games.

back to the roots

how would they? unless Gabe agrees there's no way for anyone to take control of the company, it has no public shares and sole owner is Gabe.

Gabe Newel already said he would remove the DRM if it goes under on his watch so everyone keeps the games

Id assume its the same as windows live where they just patch out the steam client. But its not going down anytime soon. Literally a money printer and privately owned so no EA/Actiniggers to fuck it up.

Just Gabe Newel and his knife collection

Gamers would rise up

According to European law we'd either get our money back or a way to download and play our games through other means.

I imagine Yea Forums would resemble /biz/ after their crypto got bogged

indie devs would write 500 word articles about how steam shutting down exposes gamers as being highly entitled for now not having to give any shits about their pixel shit bland game

How does one buy a private corporation?
Tencent only buys shares of public companies thats how they work

Remember to back up a DRM-free copy of your favorite games in case Steam shuts down one day. You'll be a sad panda if you don't.

>gabe dies
who gets ownership in the event of his death bros. not some corporate shmuck who would sell it to China right

We'd be free.

Hopefully he names a successor who isn't a greedy fuck

Hopefully Grey Newell will, reading about him seems like the kid's got a good head on his shoulders

Gog will stand tall.

Disney

EGS would stop giving away free games, their sales would begin to be shitty Steam tier sales, they'd stop giving a fuck and stop trying, because they know you have nowhere else to go.
