I have swirling ideas for a level, but I'm exhausted. I'll have to stay up late tonight if I want to get a level going and also start Three Houses.

Bit Crusade 3 is an adventure series of Mario levels that play in the traditional sense (scaling difficulty, hidden rooms and level theming). So if you like traditional Mario stages you’ll probably like these. The “game” will eventually utilize all 5 styles so there’s a little something for everyone. Every stage has five red coins hidden within that unlock a super bonus room at the end.

Feedback is appreciated and returned. If you got a really good level I’ll likely make a short webm of it to showcase it. If you decide to take the plunge and play them I hope you enjoy them. If you complete everything up to the current stage let me know and I'll play all your levels if I haven't already.

Not yet but I will be. When the first 5 Worlds are done the second half of the game will go along the path I had originally intended, up from 4 levels per world to 5 so each world will have 1 of each game style.

Love this game to death. So much fun building levels and seeing what other people can come up with. The slot limit being increased is a godsend, but I'm still not even close to 32 yet. Here's hoping a content update drops eventually, I'd really like to see SMB2 added.

don't know if you saw in the last thread before things moved over to this one, but I played Longboi Chomp, which I thought was really great. Nice idea to make something small but challenging. I also played Blue Boo Hullabaloo which was really aesthetically pleasing and fun to both speedrun and go through.

The format my series will follow, with the current level cap is thus:

World 3: SMW
World 4: NSMBU

Worlds 6-10: A meshup of each gametype for each level. The type will change for each stage but each world will follow a central theme or location. Beyond that probably a couple of bonus "post-game" worlds, and now that I have the slots for it, some Mini-game and/or Vs Stages for when we get that update to play with friends.

So in total I'm looking at least 55 levels for the main game, not including extras like minigame stages and stuff like that.

How can I have stuff start continuosly firing from offscreen at a certain point? Ideally bullet bills, but those don't seem to shoot until you come close. Could I use Bowsers somehow?

It's not absolute shit, but it's not great. It feels very hastily put together and the subworld feels randomly tacked on. For a first world it's okay but it could use some refinement

You can just play as those by setting them as your char in the options
Also place a moon (alternate sun) once to unlock all night themes

I don't mind that. How far does the fire go? Like how far from where I place him, will the player start seeing the fire go across the screen?

I feel like I've had Bowser shoot his fire from like 3 horizontal screens away which was actually a real problem for me in one of my courses

I've set up a speed route that is not that difficult to spot and I even gave a hint about it.
He didn't take it so whatever.

but that would just prove it is shit desu, it may not be that long, but i wasted hours drafting it and building it around (excluding the subarea which admittedly should be changed or outright removed all things considered) ice, springs, burners, and goombrats. I just feel I'm not cut out for making, if I can't even make the primary area not shit. Feels Bad desu. that doesn't mean I won't show up in these threads though, because unlike me there are a lot of great builders here and I wouldn't want to miss out on experiencing some of these great user-created levels.

I like your sense of scope/vision, someday I might try something similar. Not sure if you saw that website is being made that allows you to make faux course worlds via a website. That might be perfect for your stuff.

You can repost older stuff too, I think there are 50 or so "usuals" in these threads and a lot more folks that come and go so it helps to post the same course across different times/days - also I often just miss courses in the confusion.

I liked Plinko world, it was very fun, I don't have any criticism.

I tried getting through Bully one, but the beepblock section was too infuriating for me, especially after getting past it, then dying and having to go back to it, but I like the concept.

Tried out your delightful blue level and that unique long chomp challenge. The first felt like a great, classic sort of run while the latter was a very appropriate amount of tense. Great stuff! I'm if you get around to it.

Plinko stage was great, I loved the usage of cannons to block the exits so you can't cheese. Only issue I have is that if you bring a spring in with you it's a soft lock. Either way, fun stuff and very unique!

I tried the bully stage, but it felt a little too tedious for my liking. The concept is nice but the sections feel too long. It was also a pain to get to the top of the second section and not have much room to get around to the left side without knocking the bully off if you're already up there.

Fantastic level, loved all the little details. Nice job user!

The goomba is overprotective of his disabled brother who lives in the basement and tries to prevent you from accessing it.

I assume you're zank. All the rooms were good. I think trial 1 should have been swapped with trial 3. trial 1 takes quite a while so dying at 2 or 3 sets you back a long time. The second trial was cool. The third was a bit janky and first time I didn't realize the thwomp had a parachute. Not a big deal though. Everything else was pretty perfect other than if you stand still at checkpoint 1 you die. Took me like half an hour to complete though :P

Switch: A Bill Blaster Story

It's got Big Maring, and bullet blasters that move around.
Spawning mechanics for bullet blasters are a little hanky, so if it breaks, let me know how and where, and I'll try to replicate it and fix it.

I really liked this, it was challenging while not overbearing and it was aesthetically amazing

Chomp level was wonderful, although it could've been a good idea to use theme where the coins stand out a bit better.
Koopazon was very entertaining. The delivery room contraptions are very clever, The second one can be ignored by generating boxes with the hammer powerup though.
Blue Boo is very high quality standard level.
I'll definetly check out the rest of your courses later.

I'll try not to beat myself up over these things, but I'm just really disappointed I failed executing on the idea I had in place, is there anyway (outside of removing the sub-area since I likely would do that) that I could fix the level to not be shit without drastically change the core elements or theme? because if so I'd more than happily remove and rework it so I can reupload a better version of it.

Meowser is a terrible element in general, you used 2 of them with limited fire flowers.

I'm still pretty bad at harder stages, but this one is really nicely made. It is challenging without straight out being Kaizo, the theme is straight and it has a good flow to it.
Also gotta commend you for all the effort that went into making the stage look good and authentic

for starters, I'd say rather than the sub area, just expand the main area to as long as it can go, then have your jumping challenges as they exist but with rests in between. You have a very obvious theme of using springs to bounce over fire. the main thing to do now is figure out how to change it up each time, and make it difficult and rewarding. You have the foundation, now just expand on it.

I really enjoyed playing that stage! I like how you covered the mechanics with lava which made the gimmick more convincing. if i had a critique, i'd say the win condition is unnnecessary and you lose out on placing checkpoints, but the stage was short enough for it to not be frustrating anyways

7000 something, and I’m guessing about 4-5k of them came from one level of mine that got boosted into the popular tab, and a couple weeks later got played by a group of e-celebs so I’m still getting plays for it everyday. The system in place for showcasing levels seems to be pretty damn luck based.

Your levels are great. Pretty tough in my opinion, but never felt unfair. Sorry for lowering the clear-rate, I kinda suck.

I figured out what causes the cannon by the big mushroom to despawn. It happens when you repeatedly hit the rightmost edge of the pair of switches above the third cannon.
Placing the horizontally moving cannon on the other side of the pit should fix this.
You should also consider getting rid of the wincon and placing checkpoints instead.

I see lowered clear rates as a good thing. It makes it more likely that players encountering them in endless clear and like them.

I like the look of the stage, but the part after the checkpoint seems a bit obtuse as far as what you're supposed to do goes.

Sees you climbing up through an ice cavern as the terrain becomes increasingly more difficult to traverse. If you slip and fall you probably won't die - but you'll have to start your ascent from the bottom.

The Weeds of Wrath: (4TH-2Y4-DHG) - A SMB3 Jungle/Pipe & Underground Metriodvania that uses several types of plants in creative ways.

Airshipvania: (BQ6-9QH-DNG) - This Metriodvania uses more creative boss fights, shellments, seesaws, and the SMW theme unlike the 1st one.

Most of the kids/casuals who browse the popular tab probably don't think to like/boo the levels they play. I'm more bothered that the win ratio is halved whenever a level enters the popular tab.

Fuck yeah. This is the kind of level I really like. You had two really long and fun sections devoted to platforming. I almost got stuck after killing a red koopa and not being able to make the jump but then realized if I went off screen it would re-spawn. Maybe make the bowser a little harder to get passed but other than that I loved it.

I really am curious what the first patch will bring now, they're waiting a bit with it.
I mean yeah online with friends, but I hope it also fixes a few things around the game or maybe adds more playable characters or who knows what.

He fills the niche of simple traditional levels which are surprisingly hard to find.

Make a yoshi bone/hammer spitting level with dry bones or hammer bros.

His levels are comfy and tricky if you actually play them with coins in mind! Even without coins they make for good speedrun levels and feel really "nintendo". He's not the best one here but he's at the top for sure.

Just finish this level. It's pretty difficult, I think, but not Kaizo or anything like that. The key is in the fact that springs don't drop platforms, and if you see a 10 coin it means you need to hold onto a spring.

I played Ascending sole, and while the level is great, I think you went a little too far in the last sections with the chomps and red parakoopa, it's just too easy to lose the boot there and need to do the whole thing again, and while it wasn't frustrating, it is easy to time out.

Tip is that you can use blocks to jump into and fall and because there hitbox is bigger than spikes you wont hit them. Also don't take the music section seriously , I just thought it turned out so laughable bad that I decided to leave it in. Difficulty = hard

You can go into the bonus pipe at the end of the level if you stack builder Mario's boxes. Also, if I'm being honest, the latter half of this level is a tremendous pain in the ass.

First of all, this is the hardest jump in the level. The on/off switch is much higher/farther than it needs to be, and it's hard to aim yourself properly since the moving platform changes speed as soon as it leaves the rail.

Secondly, you can skip it by doing absolutely nothing.

How do you prevent progress in a 3dworld level unless the player has a box? Only thing i can come up with is a jump that is high enough to require to be standing on the box but that's very lame.

A pipe 1 block above the ground. EZ.
Be careful about using clear pipes, because you can accidentally throw boxes through them.

Got stuck at piranha plant staircase

Could’ve used some decorating and there’s a few softlocks but the concept was fairly well executed. With a little polishing and decorating this could be a great level.

I generally try to not make my levels overtly challenging, difficulty balance is the hardest part I find. As well as coming up with decent titles/descriptions.

Why do people put a "hard route" in their level.
Just make a hard level. People don't care about your arbitrary challenge. If someone beats a hard level they want a clear on a hard level. Not a clear on a piss easy level that they spent forever on.

You could use it to fill a gap in the floor, allowing a twister to go across it.

The only time I've seen this done right was in a snake block level where you could skip the snake blocks entirely and get through the level by jumping on fire bars and thwomps. Usually you're just better off making a normal difficulty level that is hard to speedrun.

Made a short (~40s) swinging level. Some of the things are tough do first time because you have to be quick but none of the jumps are actually all that challenging.

Based on the hit game "Getting Over It", this level has no enemies or power ups. A high amount of skill, determination and maybe patience is required to beat this stage. The only limit is the time (500 seconds). Be careful not to fall or you may end up back at the beginning! Good luck!

Was building a level with a bit of a narrative that I'm currently struggling with about a Koopa running a cheap, flimsy cage-diving business.
This is not that course because I'm still trying to make its gimmick work, but I kept the idea of a Koopa being the captain of a ship

My new stage has a boss at the end of it, though how cool you’ll find it is up to you I suppose. You also run into him about partway through the stage as sort of a warmup to the fight at the end.

L8H-BJQ-9TF / Yoshi's Koopa Switches

Fairly short level about spitting out shells on switches with yoshi, starts off pretty easy and gets challenging with some tight timings and jumps.

It also has the SMW desert music which is objectively the best in the game

I think if people wanted to they could damage boost to jump off a bomb onto Lakitu, I wonder. I did it the normal intended way though.

Maybe at some parts where the elevation has shifted. It’s very hard though, and if you do you’ll most likely take damage as well. It can be done in the first encounter if you bring the p switch to the room right before the first boss hall but it’s a decent hike to lug that thing around. I left it in on the off chance someone wanted to play around and experiment and it doesn’t seem to bust anything else. Gettin the auto scroll to not fuck around was such a bitch for this one but worth the hassle in the end. Glad ya liked it!

Ships look pretty good in NSMBU. I’m playing through a bunch of your stages right now but your new one drew me in. Nice job man.

They should add Cosmic Mario to the game. Repeatedly spawning clones that follow Mario's trail and make it difficult and dangerous to backtrack.

Very fun level, as usual! The boss fight was intense and unique, with the collapsing bridge and all, but even then it was very fair and fun. I've never seen Lakitu used as a boss like that before, so massive props for pulling it off so well! Can't wait for the next world. Will it be SM3DW or NSMBU? Left you a drawing of the boss as usual. I pictured the Lakitu as a pyromaniac.

I wish we'd get a replay system. They are very small in file size because they only save the player positions really, not the "video" itself. Think DKCTF.

It should work like this:

1) As the creator, you can see replays of everyone playing your levels.
2) As a player, you have to beat the level. Then you can see a replay of the creator and the current world record holder playing it.

Reason I say after beating the level is because being able to look at replays before would completely fuck over puzzle levels I suppose.

It's an odd kind of surreal to watch someone else play a level I made to where I can actually see it. Thank you again, I've played some of your levels too, very good and feel like official levels, planning to play more of them later on. I was actually inspired to make that course by seeing some claw game levels early on, and just liking making levels with bob-ombs breaking hard blocks in the first game. I'll probably make a sequel soonish, thinking with an airship theme
I'm probably going to make a more involved sequel to that level too at some point. I made that one mostly because I'd never really made a proper SMB-style level before, but I really wanted to do a snow-themed level about climbing a mountain after I played Celeste

I went ahead and updated Bully Trapping, the old version had a potential softlock after the checkpoint if you went through the warp block the other way, to move the bonus room exit (find it for real!) and also to make the beep block section a little more forgiving. I also added a magikoopa to the last room to make things a little more dynamic. New Code

I wanted to make the fight intense but not overwhelmingly so, the Lakitu boss fight was something I tried back in Bit Crusade 1 in MM1 but it was before we had updates for things like locked doors and keys and checkpoints and stuff, it wasn't awful but I had to make a lot of cuts.

This one is me actually making the stage I originally wanted to, with the added benefit of more experience in level design. The drawing looks kickass, and yep, I was thinking pyromaniac or demolitionist lol. Your coloring is superb btw.

I plan on doing 10 worlds for the base game, and probably at least a couple bonus postgame worlds where I won’t have to stick to a overall world theme and I can just go buck wild and wing it. I did it for the last 2 games so its tradition at this point.

I got some ideas brewing up for world 4, some of what you mentioned but you’ll just have to wait and see. As for 3D World that’s gonna be a learning experience since I haven’t touched it in create mode at all yet, but I think I have a game plan. I’m excited to get to it though I really liked 3D World.

I liked it. Feels very Meat-Boy-eque in the way that your movements flow together, and something about it makes it hard to get frustrated at. It has that "feels like you're a speed-runner when you're doing good" kind of vibe. Dying almost always feels like you messed up rather than the game hitting you with something unfair. Far more lenient than meatboy when you die, too, though that's mostly because its checkpoints are section to section rather than level to level. It's pretty good gameplay-wise regardless your opinion on the story itself.

I think maybe you can manipulate it by forcing the player to take a certain amount of coins, maybe if they come in from an upside down pipe into a room with a magic koopa.

imo you only need to save a replay of the world record holder and maybe the maker as well.
