A few days ago I posted in one of these threads saying I was going to watch the anime because I wanted a bit of exposition and a bunch of anons told me not to but I said if I hated it I'd just ignore it.
VERDICT: It was eh. It felt really pointless, but it didn't ruin the whole franchise or anything for me. There were a few things I didn't like such as Junko using that faggot's brainwashing video instead of actually convincing everyone to kill themselves. I didn't like Munakata or the one punch man-S-Rank-esque heroes, it felt stupid. Like I said though, overall it just felt like filler that ended up in the same exact place it started off in. Everything felt really pointless and instead of going from point A to point B it went from A to A.

I didn't have a problem with DR1's survivors when I played but Hiro definitely stands out as the weakest. Taka could have easily replaced him if they made his "rebirth" less ridiculous.
DR2's survivors have a common theme of losing someone else that they cared about, except for Kazuichi. Even so I'd keep him around and replace Akane with Hiyoko. Akane completely squanders all of the chances for character growth she's given and her only contribution is bad comic relief and "muh gut." Hiyoko could easily not only continue the turnaround she started in Chapter 3 but also support Fuyuhiko's continuing growth and redemption, and in the meantime work with Sonia to berate Kazuichi into become a halfway respectable character by endgame.
V3's survivors were fine, Shuichi is the only one out of that whole cast who really feels like he "earned" it anyway.

A bunch of people get kidnapped and forced into doing a death game. Instead of trials being based around discovering a murderer, they're more like a game of mafia where the participants have to figure out each others roles through discussion and vote on who to kill based on it. The roles are:
>keymaster (pick them and everyone else dies),
>sage (knows who the keymaster is, but there is no penalty for picking them to die so it is in their best interest not to out themselves)
>sacrifice (guaranteed to die no matter what unless they're picked, then everyone else dies and they get to pick someone to save)
>commoner (no special perks at all)
Because of the sacrifice role, at the very least two people will die each time.
It gets described as a mashup between DR and 999 a lot and that's a fair comparison: it's wacky like DR but it takes itself as seriously as 999 if that makes sense.

There's something weird about them but it's not clear just yet what. I bought Gin's personal information and his AI brings up the fact that he is not blood related to his father, much like Sara, and Q-Taro is from an orphanage which makes yet another character with a non-standard relatives. Close to the chapter's end they're all told to think about their upbringing, so that brings up all sorts of possibilities.
