Modern DQ any good?

modern DQ any good?
I've only played DQ1-4 and love them because those are simple and solid.
I hate melodramatic JRPG bullshit

certainly play 5

>hate melodrama
>recommends the most melodramatic game

Nigger

You would love 6, most gameplay focused one of the later ones besides 9

why would you stop at IV? V is by far the best one
VI takes a dip but I still loved it
VII decent, better than VI at least
VIII the second or third best one
IX personally didn't like this one
X mmo, didn't get released outside japan
XI probably the easiest, still great

>recommends the most melodramatic game
It's real drama not melodrama therefore it's great

>V is by far the best one
hahahahahahahh
No
you 5 fags are so fucking annoying holy shit
5 is really short, very simple dungeons, a lot of story that gets in the way if you want gameplay, no classes, monsters are very limited might as well play DQM
Its good but holy fuck 5fags are annoying

The first couple are dope if you like old school jrpgs

I just played through Dragon Quest Builders 2 and it put me in the mood to play an actual Dragon Quest title. Which one should I start with? I plan on picking up XI once it comes out on Switch.

>love them because those are simple and solid.
That's every dragon quest.

5 is great.
8 is great.
11 is ok but it got hit with the "QoL features bruv!" and feels really toothless even with the difficulty modes enabled.

Guys I need to know. Is 8 an actual good game? I'm been watching videos and reviews and stuff and all people seem to say is "It's really good, it's the first time the series went full 3D". Is that really all DQ8 has going for it?

>11 is ok but it got hit with the "QoL features bruv!" and feels really toothless even with the difficulty modes enabled.
As someone who is about to play 11 and knows how fucking shitty the 3ds remake of 8 is, this worries me. When you say "got hit with", do you mean later versions of the game, or like the base game itself?

>monsters are very limited
If anything 5's main problem is that you have to rely on monsters for most of the fucking game.

Its a good game
Its one of the worst DQ games because lack of options
but this is just my opinion as someone that has played every single DQ game multiple times

And how constrained it is constantly
People should play the Super famicom version of 5, its a fucking mess Chunsoft had no idea how to develop for SF and the game really suffered mechanically, even the remakes cant fix how short and bad the dungeons are
But hey muh story
If you like 5 over 6 you dont really like DQ, Im sorry but I do believe this

The 3DS remake of 8 was amazing what are you on, it improved the game in every area
except graphixxx
Also that user is lying, put XI on hard mode and its hard as balls

The PS4 and PC version of 11 is worse than the 3DS remake of 8.
They almost never force you into battles on the field since the enemies are so passive and blind.
You can get your MP and HP back up by camping which is free, and the camping places are everywhere so sleeping at an inn is actually incredibly useless.
All the dungeons are pretty much the same quality as the new dungeons in the 3DS remake of 8, meaning they suck.
Characters and the story is good though.

>If you like 5 over 6 you dont really like DQ, Im sorry but I do believe this
Rest assured, I'm playing them in order and so far V is definitely my least favorite one. The story bits are cool indeed, though. Lots of fucked up moments going on.

My theory is that Horii had to make it so story heavy because chunsoft was that incompetent and could not realize a proper DQ game on SF hardware
He dropped them like a hot potato after that and 6 and 7 were developed by a new company, Heartbeat

I'm addicted to grinding Vocations in VI someone please stop me this is a cry for help.

Did you ever play the original? The remake fucking plays itself. Full restores on every level up make turn an already easy game into a drawn out cutscene, and there's no experimentation with alchemy since it just gives you the recipes now. The only benefit it has is instant alchemy, which still isn't a straight upgrade but that's a more complex issue since there's pros and cons to both implementations.

this, what is wrong with 3ds 8 is it just people not liking overworld enemies?

Of course I played the original
>the complain about MP regen when levelling up
You know, I get it on paper but when playing it never really affect me like youd think it should, Im too busy being really underlevelled since I can skip every encounter that the new difficulty is really enjoyable, the game becomes really hard and every single battle can be a wipe
I very gladly take those MP refills and it feels good and satisfying every level is more important than ever before

>experimenting with alchemy
I never did this, I didn not enjoy alchemy in 8 sorry but I cant relate to this problem, even with the recipes I still dont bother with it

Okay, one last question. I've only played through DQ9, and that was years ago. I've decided to get fully into this series with DQ3. Was that a good choice?

>You can get your MP and HP back up by camping which is free, and the camping places are everywhere
Why would you ever do that shit? Please tell me the game won't be like that on the Switch.

I always recommend starting with 4
But as long as you dont start with 7 you are good to go
Enjoy

You can simply choose not to use campsites you know

Yeah, especially if you go from 3 to XI since they are vaguely connected by some references and things you will only appreciate if you've played 3 first

If you have to use custom rules to enjoy the game, then the base game is shit.

Well I still enjoyed the game immensely evein with using the camping sites.
Up to you

Alright, we fundamentally play the game differently. I run into every enemy on the overworld I see and often chase them down too, not explicitly to grind but because I like fighting monsters. If you play it like I do, you level up in no time and each level extends the amount of time you can keep fighting without using an inn. I literally never slept at an inn to heal in my playtime (I played up till Trodain castle in the remake before it became too mind-numbing to continue).

I don't see them changing the Switch version to be harder. They should add a new Draconian difficulty mode that removes campsites, but I'm 99,9% sure they won't.

Yeah I see the problem
Youd think there would be mods for that, 8 3DS has been modded a lot to restore the PS2 costumes and stuff

Forgot to add
I think draconian options are definitely a step in the right direction and we will very likely see them in every game going forward, plenty other JP series dont bother with difficulty settings at all, still has room for improvement though

5 is pure kino and you should be shanked if you don't like it.

Honestly I think it's one of the weaker entries. It's world map is so boring.

>kino
>word used by Yea Forums brainlets a word that should never be used for a videogame

Sounds about right

It's also pretty short, but I still like it for the story

Anyone who played 9 have any tips for this mage quest? Have to put a wizard ward down, then kill a metal slime with specifically the same character who put the ward down, and I have to do it twice. I'm in the Quarentomb because that's the only place I remember metal slimes being, but they're still rare as fuck here. Is there a better location to be doing this in?

Its been years
A lot of 9 quests are kind of dumb and if you want to do them you have to try many many times
