The school training is also has potential, though I can't fully judge that since I'm doing a natural run before I get all autistic with the systems.

I think my only real complaint is how terrible the 3D graphics and animations are. They honestly feel like a downgrade from the last few games. I don't know how anybody saw the animation for the basic fire spell (and basic dark spell since they share the exact same shitty orb) and thought that was ok.

The last fire emblems I really got into was on the gba. This one feels like standard fire emblem with quality of life improvements and really low difficulty. When I finish this playthrough im gonna try playing it again and ignore all the school stuff since none of the bonuses you get from it seem necessary since the game is so easy.

Chose blue lions. Recruited Bernadetta into my class because I liked her design. Played for ten hours without realizing it. I'd say it's good.

I am enjoying it so far. A pretty comfy game. The school stuff works well and I like how I can direct where I want my units to go skill wise.

Yeah, it's clear they weren't just trying to add some bullet-point to the back of the box or trying to trend-chase on Persona. IT feels like its own thing, a better version of the sort of hub-area stuff in Fates

Yeah, though it's a bit different in tone obviously, it borrows many of the elements. You don't get nearly as many days between story beats as you do in Persona but the days you do get are arguably more meaningful.

Three Houses is basically the proper step up for Fire Emblem. If Awakening basically revitalized the core formula but didn't really re-invent it too much, Three houses actually takes pretty big steps to change the flow of gameplay. For instance, tactics are still in but no hard-coded weapon triangle. Instead you have weapon arts (which will eat more durability from a weapon than just one point) and battalions (which are like auxillary units your unit can bring into battle for special attacks).
IT also has a fully voiced story that's actually well done

AI is still as retarded as ever and will STILL throw themselves on your top units if you leave them in the aggro range. Why do AI bother to attack you if they deal nearly no damage in the process AND kill themselves. It shouldn't be too hard to program something so AI only attacks you first if they have more to earn than to lose.

The actual gameplay (battles and related stuff) is good, if not anything more than that. The school gameplay is bland and no more than a timesink and, of course, a way to shove the extremely bland characters your way.
The presentation of it all is very childish, but as an anime styled game that is to be expected.

How is the map design? I've been slogging through SoV lately and it's just excruciatingly bad.

Not really, you can easily force players to attack by making more missions with turn restriction so they cannot just play passively. Right now in most missions (even in hard) all you have to do is put 1 or 2 top units in aggro range (with good def/spd), AI will always move toward you and kill itself + some of their units will be in your range but won't be able to attack you during their turn. So on top of removing couple units while doing nothing during the enemy, you also get the initiative during your turn since the AI moved their units in your range. It's just completely retarded.

AI should only move toward you first if they can do decent damage, otherwise they should remain where they are, forcing you to get in range.

I don't pay for online so I wouldn't know. And with /hbgshop/ it's actually more convenient to download updates/DLCs and such directly there than from Nintendo's servers.

I know how FE AI works. My counterpoint is that the odds are always heavily stacked against you in terms of numbers, and the enemy needs to be stupid for such levels to be completeable at all.

Odds are only stacked against you in term of numbers. Meanwhile you can heal, you have Gambits and Combat Arts that are OP as fuck, you usually have more units gathered together too (enemy are often spread while you can move your pack of 8~10 units together) etc. Yes the AI needs to remain an AI but that doesn't mean being stupid as fuck to the point of killing themselves constantly. You can still make a decent AI while making map completable or again, force players to be more aggressive and take more risks in harder difficulties. Just having a harsh turn requirement on Hard and above would already solve lot of the difficulties issues, prevent you to just sit where you are and fully heal your units every couple battles.

Nintendo listened to the complaints people had about Fates, and we ended up getting a fantastic game

The biggest thing holding me back from buying is difficulty. Everyone is singing the game's praises but I've not seen one person argue against the game being embarrassingly easy even on hard. Without any difficulty there's no strategy in the strategy rpg and at that point nothing in the game matters. All the extra schooltime fluff will only serve to make the game easier and it just sounds like you're playing Persona with a token battle between social links.

I personally think she's just too good being gremory so I should recommend training both faith and reason (although reason a bit more) and just snipe everyone from afar.

Hard not really being hard (and normal being piss easy) is pretty much a given with the newer games. I'm about 20 hours into Black Eagles on hard and the hardest missions so far were early on. The real question will be how hard the additional difficulties beyond Hard are and whether the end-game at least amps up the difficulty.

The mechanics are fun though, and the story is better than Fates so I'm still motivated to finish Hard and unlock those higher difficulties.

Everything about it gameplay wise is great. I love a lot of the small things like UIs and health bars being on the unit reticles. Though flaws are that the info displayed before attacking is going inward for some dumb reason and makes it straining to see. Another thing is that some textures on characters are pixelated as fuck for some reason. Very odd choices but purely game wise it's great.

it's 1 class XP per battle, or 2 with the statue. Most probably won't master their Beginner classes, but that doesn't really matter. The good skills start coming from Intermediate, and you'll probably end up mastering those while you grind out the skill reqs for Advanced.

I've just finished the first "mission" which is like the third or forth proper battle, or whatever, and my gains are retarded OP. Only a couple of standout shitty ones (e.g. a twofer for Ingrid, and some MAG for Dmitri), and I don't even reset for stats.
Odds are it'll even out and I'll get assblasted now that I'm reclassing, but I'm not sure it matters all that much in the long run, if this game is anything like almost every other FE. Just stick to those 3-4 key units, and add on like 3 of yer favs later on. The mock battle was a really good place to figure out who your main group of elite animu dynasty warriors were going to be.

Spending less time outside of combat would seem to increase the difficulty, albeit not by much.
All cutscenes are skippable as well, so if you've heard this story before, slap that skip button because there's nothing new here.

It's worth noting that after walk through the Monastery once you can teleport everywhere and speed through the side content and figure out what (if any of it) you enjoy.
Most of the practical shit is similar to Peace Walker/MGSV, e.g. spamming menu operations to get a desired result, and then moving on to the next mission.
Honestly if you're on the fence about it, I'd just skip it. Like I said, it's JUST Fire Emblem. Despite the additions and attempt to toss the formula salad, it's about as deep and fit for consumption as the water in your toilet. That is, it won't kill you, but you won't get much out of it.

I had no expectations for the game, the trailers look like shit whenever I saw it at directs. I never liked Fire Emblem games because they were tedious to play through and when not in combat there's nothing to do.

Three houses though is surprisingly great. The professor school thing is immersive and it's really wonderful to wander around the school talking to people and learning about them. The characters are no longer single personality people but they all have a history behind their personalities and action, the fact that you can read their bios and history gives them more depth. The story is also entertaining too, there's nothing cliche or cringy it's just plain good story telling.

The combat is fun too, it's still a SRPG at it's core and it's a joy to play through.

Honestly I was surprised at the game and I never thought I'll like it this much, I'd give it a 9/10 or 9.5/10. Also there seems to be at least 200 hours of content from people who played through most of it. This is a meaty game.

It's possible with clever use of the avoidance pads, gambits, and a lot of luck.

That localization team was put through the ringer years ago specifically for how poorly received Fate's localization was.

Without any support you are looking 15+ in a stat.

With support B it's really easy. IMO concentrate on support and you'll get it easily.

Nah. Iron weapons are too cheap for that. They are better used for upgrading your weapons.
If you upgrade a broken iron weapon for example you get an upgraded version + free repair.

The only Fire Emblem I played was awakening so don't have too ,much in context of where the series is going. But what I felt it was missing is more less filled in here. Voice acting is very appreciated given the amount of text this game has and it doesn't disappoint its surprisingly good except Mercedes, her Snow White voice is nails on a chalk board annoying. Base building is something I thought the series really could have benefited from the school isn't quite that but its a mixed bag it actually adds more to game then my initial impression. Grinding weapon ranks was always a tedious chore this is pretty streamlined. How you obtain classes is definitely upgrade and far more organic and well fits with the school theme. There is too much downtime in between story and if you don't enjoy the school sections you will hate this game. I was never a fan of the weapon triangle but realize how much of a necessity of in it absence. Now really the only benefit to choosing a weapon is unlock what classes you want. I like most of the characters even if many of them are rather stock anime tropes and story so far pretty standard JRPG nothing to exciting. Graphics are absolute hideous the only thing they any effort into is the character models even the low resolution models and without any anti aliasing. It does not look good even by switch standards. We give pokemon sword and shield shit for look bad this game looks worse at least pokemon has decent color palette.
