Yeah, you unlock the fight against the giant demon waay before you can actually beat him. Also your heroic son is the healer of the group, since he's the only human in the game that gets multiheal.

DQ at least SNES and back tends to give you lots of freedom but also weirdly have things at levels too high for you to deal with at certain places. So there's an order you "should" do things in but never really tells you.

To be fair, the game blatantly points you towards the place you should be going to next, but still, it should be obvious you're going to go back to see what happened to your old pals at some point, so the problem is that you can unlock that event right away. It's pretty dumb cause you have to go through a previously locked door to get to the red urn, so it would have been super easy to prevent that from happening right away.

I mean NES/SNES DQ tends to offer lots of exploring. And so you would most likely do everything but what the game tells you. Visit previous areas is just an obvious one since you do that a lot in DQ games anyways.

I haven't seen those speedruns since I'm currently playing V, but I'm guessing it's mainly done by knowing what you're doing and finding exploits, as in any other speedrun. I love RPG speedruns even if they're still really long because of how insane and/or smart they can get.

Dragon Quest 7 is more or less undistilled Dragon Quest at least story wise. And because Horii loves tragedy it really only works when there's some build up and that takes time. Personally I feel most of the town story are great but if you are someone wanting a game to explain how or why the world is where it is than you are left with just an annoying adventure.

that's why Horii keeps putting them in there, that's his favorithe part admited by himself.

Best physical attacker - can equip some very good stuff like Hela Hammer and Diamond Akillics. Your son will look just like Based Pankraz so she is objectively the best decision. Best party chat conversations by lightyears.

Pretty much Eric ability to put enemies to sleep/poison and deal 4x to that status and pretty much all bosses drop like a rock.

I don't understand, why everyone in my party feels so shit. 8th and Jade can't do shit in the post game. All 8th is good for is buffing my party defense and Jade is just complete subpar in damage. Serena, Sylando, and Rab can't do damage and can only support so I'm left with 2 damages with 4 supports and one unusable party member.

They are the best version for better or worse (well 3 is iffy but if you just want to enjoy the core game it's fine). Mobile adds sparkles on the floor for hidden items which kind of breaks DQ1 but DQ1 is mostly should be played just to enjoy DQ3 than liking it as a game itself. DQ2 is bullshit the game with grinding and enemies that will just kill you outright even at high levels and hidden objects on the ground in places you would have 0 idea of checking. So it's honestly the one you should play anyways. DQ3 miss I think the board game but that's really it. It's not really important but it is something to note. DQ4 is the DS version with party chat added.

When you play 4 play the phone port. DS port doesn't have party chat and it's very important for your characters to have personalities. They're all unique and it made me like them way more than it would've without the party chat. One of the best cast of characters in a dragon quest game, they're up there with 8 and 11s partys

I mean that's honestly Dragon Quest. Support is a major key especially in post game. Where characters with spells like Oomph and debuffs play major roles but suck at actual damage. DQ8 is honestly that where you give 2 players tension item and just have Yangus and Hero beat the living shit out of an enemy. Well PS2 Jessica had a broken whip ability that you should use but they took that out of the 3DS version.

I really like the attention to detail they paid when it comes to body mechanics. Seriously, the way every female character moves/dances in the game is very impressive and life-like. Especially they way Jade moves her hips for any of her puff-puff moves or whatever. Seriously very impressivle and looks possibly more seducing than real life.

Played the NES version and it's still honestly really good. Slight grinding for each character at the start of each chapter but since I played the NES version of 1-3 before it the grind never honestly felt nearly as bad.

You don't really get them until near the end anyways. Tension is nice but against enemies that can do the wave of ice that takes all that shit away it's a double edge sword since it waste so many turns setting it up.

Maybe on normal mode but on Draconian mode it's almost required you give Erik divide skill.

I would agree with you IF it post-game undid the events of the parts 1 and 2. but it didnt undo them. Veronica is still dead and Hendrick still had his character arc. His old team still remembers him.

Sylvando is one of the best written gay characters ive seen in a while. He doesn't try to hide his flamboyant nature, but still breaks tropes that the gay character have to be weak or obnoxiously sexual.

I really didn't want him to be gay. It's never explicity said he's homosexual and he falls for puff-puffs so I just believe that he's not gay he's.... "gayish".

I'm playing through DQV right now and it's making me realize how lazy gamefreak has been even before the transition to 3D models. Fucking DQV has specific animations for all the enemies that are different for every move they use and every monster you can recruit has an overworld sprite that follows you around. When gamefreak started animating sprites they didn't even really "animate" them, it was more puppet/motion tweeting

I'm just going to say DQ has slightly over 100 enemies and a good few of them are pallet swaps. Another is that enemies tend to only has about 2-3 abilities and that is including just an attack. Where Pokemon has over 600 Pokemon where each Pokemon can have dozens of attacks. So it's not really fair to compare it.
