I remember, back when I was a kid, I used to love video games and was good at them, since I spent 3+ hours on them everyday. Now, it seems like every game is designed for multiplayer, which means that the options are to either spend multiple hours playing everyday to get good, or to get rekt by kids with the time and energy needed to get good.

It's hard to pinpoint. Sometimes I think I'm just jaded, other times I find myself playing older games and can see that from an objective standpoint these are superior to play as a video game. I think there is certainly a decline of quality in games as whole due to over saturation of the market and profit becoming the priority over fun in AAA games.

Part you're getting old, part the industry is changing. I've got about 7 years on you and realize what you're now realizing probably 10 years ago. Mobile games are a cash cow and so it's much easier for a company to license development for a mobile game and Reagan millions from all of the fat whales addicted to their games. Console gaming is trying to cater to adult men and children impressed by flashy specs and Marvel movies, while the industry as a whole has been going "esports are a legitimate sport." I don't get it. I'd like to go back to playing Vidya in my dark bedroom where nobody bugs me and I can occasionally jump online to bitch about stuff or ask for help but nope. Those days are long gone.
