Honestly I have no idea. This is my first persona game. I just saw it was on sale and people here seem to love it so I thought I'd give it a try.

As a guy who prefers Shin Megami Tensei over Persona. This is the Persona game that convinced me to be a fan of the series.

Batton pass, confidant system and early sp recharge are poorly thought out and make you op by default. Boss fights played like glorified cinematics. Game just felt like a chore in general.

The game itself is fundamentally derivative and doesn't have as much depth as other SMT games do but it has more style and better music. The characters range from decent to okay depending on your preference. There are better characters in the older games. You'll have a decent time just don't expect to be blown away.

Yeah, and much of Western civilization is slowly moving on from that, for good reason I imagine. There was also a time where some civilizations thought it was neat to watch people slaughter each other in arenas, or fiddle little boys as a pastime. Yes, that still exists in some forms today, but I don't know why that should be brought up as a comparison still, or how Japan not moving on in certain regards is anything to go by.

I was referring to my observation of how many people who are enthusiastic about japanese media, including games, anime etc. seem to be quick to adapt the mindsets conveyed in them, including social aspects that, if anything, apply to Japanese culture more than anything else. The biggest problem about that is that they do so without reflecting on it. And I feel like that's happening here, too.

Why couldn't I get into P5? I only played P4G but loved it and played it all day every day until I finished it, but for P5 I only got as far as finishing Kamoshida's Palace. I even tried restarting it a year later and quit again the first time I first entered the painter guy's world. It just gets boring.
