Except most AAA games struggle with that because they have to appeal to the lowest common denominator. When BF5 launched with low TTKs and guns with actual recoil, all the turbospergs and "competitive" gamers screeched that it wasn't fair, and they forced DICE to double the TTK and make every gun shoot like a fucking laser.

Also "good" AI comes from good level design, scripting, and animations. AI is mostly shit now because 99% of PVE AAA games are set in open-world fuckfests where the AI has to act "dynamically", but if they do it like SWAT 4, FEAR, and Splinter Cell, and rely more on scripting, then it could be alright.

The TTKs/Recoil was perfect in BF3 alpha or in games like CS. I don't get why they just don't c/c those.

SWAT 4 was good because everything was intuitive. Playing through the single player and managing your squadmates on your own felt really fucking nice, a little slow, but you knew what you were doing.

I only finished the campaign of Swat 4 last year because Elite force lets you do it in coop, but still always found the idea an afterthought as I thought its greatest strength for a story was the environment narration.
For example the second level is fairly easy but I like to imagine a cop enacting justice to get rid of that madman.
A mod level I love is set in a municipal office, start from the roof nice and quiet, get through maintenance, dark,loud and empty and then have to go floor to floor, with lots of entry points and hostages, a tough level.

SWAT 4's drop down menus are more user friendly, but once you memorize the commands I feel SWAT 3's number system is much faster.

Reminder that tactical shooters are better than horror games at providing tension, they're better at challenging the player to make creative use of the tools available to them than immersive sims, and they're better at making the player care about their AI teammates than RPGs.

I like tactical shooters because it's a lot more empathetic on loadout, movement, and positioning than it is on raw aim and reaction time. My mouse sensitivity is never quite right and my reflexes are just a little too shit to do super well in other FPS; like Siege. Siege gameplay kinda sickens me because its mostly just corner strafing and spamming lean, it doesn't look fun at all
