TBC was objectively better, even with gay flying.
Vanilla would be superior if it had more content and some classes/specs were more balanced. Some things are just not fun to play.

People complaining that the beta is dead, when the level cap is level 40 and only a handful of streamers and their zoomer audience got invited. The desperate will get a few months of nostalgia, the crowd that wishes they were around back then will probably play for a bit longer, but at the end of the day what people really want isn't the game, but the time period.

What gets me is the sheer volume of people that are going out of their way to do everything they can to get a speedrun set up for it, like getting to 60 in a day or two is going to somehow make the game more fun.

Some of that is true but it's not just pure nostalgia. The game had a great feeling of progression that i personally haven't experience since. Even TBC added tokens for gear which took a lot of the fun out of drops away. I've played almost every major mmo release since WoW for a good period of time and currently play FFXIV to fill the time until classic, and nothing gives the satisfaction of progression and achievement more than vanilla. It was the one time that the balance of effort and reward were in perfect balance in my opinion, and the fact that it's like 15 years old doesn't change that.

They were in the stress test. Their god spoke and asked them to spam and 90% of them followed.

Those are the people you see talking about the game 24/7. There's plenty of people just wanting to enjoy the game at a casual pace. They're just not as vocal, talking about their autistic strats and discussing every BIS slot from 1-60.
