Outside of that, the writer just likes confounding expectations. Early speculation over the cast in Japan had pegged Junko as being the first victim, and there's a file in the final game that looks a lot like an Inference page with her dead, so it's entirely possible it was supposed to happen that way originally.

I agree that I always saw the transformation as a negative effect on him. He was trying to cope by the fact that he couldn't save Mondo and tried to live his life for him as the only way to repay him. But if he could still survive instead of getting killed mid development he could have learned that wasn't the way to deal with his grief and find a better way live on for him (and hopefully writen somewhat better than Fuyuhiko because he becomes kinda boring after his heel faced turn).

His character could have gone to better places and what was there was an interesting foundation to go forward which is why him getting killed so abruptly and so half assed, that even the writer admitted that he didn't try and could have done better.

ibuki was killed off without even getting a proper backstory. she was a joke character that the writers didn't know what to do so they just choked her and hoped everyone hated her. hiyoko was no different as after the whole development with mahiru she just gets killed because the story demanded deaths to proceed. they didn't need to do a double murder, but since they wanted it to be a tradition, they did it anyways, making it really forced.
3-3 is a close second of being the worst double murder mystery, but 2-3 edges out because it requires impeccable timing to even do what mikan did,

The thing about Ibuki's death is that it didn't really feel specific to her at all. It felt like pretty much anybody could've gotten the disease she did and the case would've gone more or less the same.

-Exposes the serial killer in a believable fashion along with the competition with investigative potential in the same trial.
-Directly avoids meeting the ultimate fighter alone and removes himself from any bullshit that might incur from the confrontation
-Sees Kirigiri being the most overtly suspicious individual and keeps a check on her.

Not everything he did had good results but they were pragmatic.

Yeah. I wish the game was balanced just a bit more to be more challenging so you'd have a reason to use GJ for anything other than to delete bosses with no effort. Playing on PC with M+KB feels the best but it also makes it even easier because you always have perfect shot accuracy with the laser pointer.
