Just played the prologue, can someone explain wtf I just saw. The flying loli...
>The flying loli
>loli
Should be pretty clear if you played the previous games. If not then what the fuck are you doing.
faggot
never really was interested in the franchise, got this one from the humble bundle and decided to give it a try
Its 5th game in the series, go and play the previous games. No amount of explaining will make the story clear to you.
>The flying loli
Come back when you've matured past the age of 14
None of that shit matters. You play as the fucking medic.
>starting with V
Buy, pirate, steal, emulate, whatever you have to do, but play MGS 1, 2 and 3.
no, fuck you, the storytelling in MGSV is trash. etsu tamari or whoever the fuck writes like an ignorant braindead university student.
having played the previous games plenty of times, NOTHING in the beginning sequence makes sense, so stop lying to the fucker.
OP, the fire guy is meant to look (barely) like the nemesis of MGS3, but that's it.
the kid is supposed to look like a boss in MGS1. that's it.
burning whale? spoiler alert: it's absolutely fucking nothing.
the game is fun, but don't be looking for a cohesive story.
Why do people like this retard always want games to be literal? Why can't developers make psychological games, about delusions, confusions, lies, illusions? Why do you faggots always need everything to be "REAL"? Is it because you want to feel validated?
>not 4
Fuck you. It might suck but it's a must play still.
Ultimate brainlet post, think before you start seething all over me.
>OP, the fire guy is meant to look (barely) like the nemesis of MGS3, but that's it.
He literally is Volgin
>the kid is supposed to look like a boss in MGS1. that's it.
He literally is Psycho Mantis
>burning whale? spoiler alert: it's absolutely fucking nothing.
This user never heard about Moby Dick
>NOTHING in the beginning sequence makes sense
Made perfect sense to me
glorious nippon
play in fucking release order you faggot
im on mgs3 personally
>Its 5th game in the series
it's actually 8th or 9th depending on how you count them. Still, what you say is true.
You either play MGS games in release order, or bust. Preferably you'd skip the MGSV gameS altogether, OR stick to just playing GZ and fill the gaps with TPP's "red tape" trailers.
>Preferably you'd skip the MGSV gameS altogether
Why would you recommend this to anyone? Game is a blast from start to finish. Must play for every MGS fan.
>Why would you recommend this to anyone?
Because the V games have done nothing but harm to the entire IP, and are best ignored for the sake of cohesive plot and not having to deal with the literal phantom pain the unfinished piece of shit leaves you with.
>Game is a blast from start to finish
No, it really, really is not.
It is KINDA OK for the first 10-20 hours, when you're still tricked of thinking that shit will open up, improve and start making sense.
Then you realize that the basics are not gonna change much at all, and you'll be stuck with grinding and waiting.
After the first half, the game is practically over. Nothing in the Africa is worth wasting your time for, especially when there is literally, no joke, no ending nor a proper finale for majority of the plot points or cast members.
Ground Zeroes is literally 100 times better of an MGS game, AND a fucking game. If you leave it at that, you got all the content you need to do a great head-canon for the short gap in lore.
That being said, Peace Walker is a far far superior finale to BB's tales, and a vastly superior, finished game to boot.
It has flaws but its certainly worth playing. I didnt have to grind anything, the waiting can be annoying but I didnt mind it that much. At worst you can mod it out. Story would definitely benefit from better pacing and more cutscenes/missions to tie it properly together, but what is there is fine. As for the finale, its not like the series ends there. It just goes full circle back to MG1. I think people really overreact about this game. Gameplay and mechanics are great, there is alot of details and freedom on how to approach missions.
The whale was probably a hallucination, maybe.
The flying shota and his burning mack daddy are going to be recurring antagonists from BiBo's past.
The assassin chick who died in the beginning will be your undead waifu.
Everything else will be a plot twist that will make even M. Night Shamalamadingdong envious.
>Gameplay and mechanics are great,
That's just it : it is not.
The character CONTROLS are neat and tight, but that is NOT the full "gameplay".
The real deal GAMEPLAY of TPP is filled with waiting and grindan: waiting for timers, waiting for choppers, waiting for supply drops, waiting for your character to run or ride to the next destination on the other end of the empty, barren open world map, waiting for the next story quest to unlock by re-doing re-skins of old missions ...
TPP is a fucking slog.
Being unfinished game that barely has anything to do with MGS does not help. Kojima already did the "missing link" game 3 times, with TPP being THE most bollocks and unneeded re-take on the idea of them all.
It could have been good, but alas, Jewnami pushed the shit out pre-maturely.
You know something's off when a portable prequel's menu-only representation of the Mother Base has way more character and atmosphere than the empty 3D copy-paste rigs in V.
See I liked all of that. Managing your base, calling in choppers and supply drops, scouting the area, riding the horse or d-walker. Just felt like operator shit you have to do to get the mission done. Like a simulator, but I see why someone wouldnt like that. Id say you take it too seriously.
>condensing every single KOJIMBO IS GOD and TPP SUCKS BECAUSE IT'S DIFFERENT post into one
Nice. Doesn't change that TPP is fucking great if you aren't an MGS autist that came into it with expectations of more James Bond anime soap opera and is now upset that he has to play the game rather than watch a movie.
>Id say you take it too seriously.
And I'd say (You) don't take anything seriously, and are fine with 30yo mega IPs being being beaten and thrown to dogs. Story is one of the biggest attractions in the MGS series, and it is completely fucked up by V. And no, I don't only mean that TPP would have a bad plot, but the implications it rises ripple through the entire fucking series, making past titles seem even more bonkers.
All that shit you listed sound good on a paper, but the implementation and balancing is all over the place. The open-world shit is part of the blame, but it does not end there.
More than half of the shit you gain access to is literally useless from the get-go. You can't even re-live your Rhodesian fantasies, since all guns are fake Frankenweapons.
>And I'd say (You) don't take anything seriously
Pretty much, guess we will end it at that. Shame you couldnt enjoy the game.
>never play the games
>don't care to play the games
>HURR WHATS HAPPENING IN THE 5TH ENTRY
Fuck off.
FPBP
The game is shit
MGS story is dumb and nonsensical. Just enjoy the gameplay OP.
>Shame you couldnt enjoy the game.
it is very hard for me to enjoy a thing that marked the uncalled death of one of the greatest series of all time. One that barely resembles its predecessors, one that will never be finished for real, and one that is so generic that total newbies flock to it for wrong reasons.
And I say this as someone who has nearly 200 hours clocked to the game on Steam. I was RAVING about the game left and right for the first ½ hundred hours, and I still get weird urges when I see shipping containers IRL.
All those memories only bring me sorrow now.
I don't know how big of an ADHD or non-native speaker you need to be to think the story to be nonsensical. In general, the plots are still better than in 99% of the cinematic trash AAA industry spoonfeeds us these days.
In his defense, even playing MGS from the very beginning will constantly leave you with questions because Kojima intentionally withholds details in order to build suspense and intrigue.
Just because you might recognize Psycho Mantis doesn't mean you'll instantly know that Volgin is back from the dead and you certainly wouldn't know about XOF etc.
What more would you even want from MGS? Pretty much all of the games in the series, even some spin offs, are worth playing. Story was finished with 4. Kojima didnt want to do more games. MGSV was the last goodbye. I would still like to see a remake of MG1-2 or MGR2, it will propably happen one day. MGSV didnt kill the series, it made shitload of money and even got a spin off after.
I'd argue the story if brilliant, people don't see it because there's no common thread. Reminder that Metal Gear takes place in a parallel universe were the axis powers were defeated prematurely by the Cobra Unit. The flow of time changed accordingly, advancing technology and the research of which much earlier. I think the existence of psychic powers in this universe has been greatly implemented, as has the explenation for vocal chord parasites and how they were a key organism for advanced lifeforms all up until the human race. If I had to describe this way of storytelling I'd just call it indirect. That doesn't make it bad, it just makes all of you brainlets.
>What more would you even want from MGS?
It to feel like an MGS.
It to wield the same high quality as its predecessors.
Never before has an MGS game been criticized for its lack of quality.
>MGSV didnt kill the series
is it the opposite day?
Kojima was fired. KojiPro disbanded. The IP and engine taken as hostage. Plans of prequels and remakes canned.
It is fucking dead and buried. Jewnami is leaving the industry as we speak. No fan is ever going to buy a single Konami game any more.
>made shitton of money
that did not reach the creative team's pockets.
>got a spinoff
is that a "positive" thing in your head? Good god.
You need to calm down user, its been years. You should see a doctor or something. Most people who worked on Metal Gear are still at Konami. Some even came back, its definitely not dead.
>Never before has an MGS game been criticized for its lack of quality.
Come on now, MGS2 was hated at launch and do I even need to mention MGS4?
>is that a "positive" thing in your head? Good god.
yeah
making me replay the entire intro sequence again was the biggest fuckin sin this game committed
>Never before has an MGS game been criticized for its lack of quality.
Ex-fucking-cuse me? Shitheads like you made MGS4 your favorite whipping boy for years before MGSV can around. As soon as V didn't give you the anime soap opera you wanted you instantly pivoted to worshipping 4 and shitting on V.
>Kojima was fired
Yes. Because HE was the one who constantly butted heads with the execs and demanded too much while mismanaging development. HE was the one who sold the game under false pretenses with fake trailers and he was the one who cut much of your beloved soap opera. He and Murata were the ones who came up with the idea of making Venom a silent protag.
But of course, in the mind of the obsessed MGS fanboy, Godjima can do no wrong even when he already had a track record of doing wrong.
>You need to calm down user, its been years
I am calm. I just want to murder you and Konami's execs, that's all.
>Most people who worked on Metal Gear are still at Konami.
[citation needed]
Also, you say such things as if it was a "good thing".
>its definitely not dead.
It is dead to me and millions of other people.
>MGS2 was hated at launch and do I even need to mention MGS4?
Thank you for clarifying that you know literally nothing of the series, and only keep parroting nu-fag memes that were rooted to old jokes and even pure contrariarism of late-00s.
>yeah
I would suggest you to take your own advise, and seek medical attention, ASAP.
You are what they call obsessed user, you might even suffer from delusions. Please refrain from further posting and seek medical help. Im sure you can get through this.
>Shitheads like you made MGS4 your favorite whipping boy for years before MGSV can around
ITT: things that never happened.
MGS4 was always good. It was good in 2008, it is good today. And it is especially GREAT compared to fucking MGSV games.
This is exactly the kind of history revisionism I was talking about earlier; tied to new people taking literal jokes as hard facts, and turning them into nu-thruts.
>Because HE was the one who constantly butted heads with the execs and demanded too much
Wew, a guy who constantly made the studio fucktons of money actually dared to challenge the braindead boomers in charge, and keep doing what he'd been doing for the past 3 decades: fucking great games? Oh, the horrors!
You said it yourself: the game still printed a metric fucktons of cash. Even the prologue "game" that KONAMI's morons demanded as a "proof of concept" did extremely well.
Yet, Hideo was somehow the devil here, and needed to be cut out? Get lost and give a shotgun a blowjob while at it.
Autistic high-horse play will not get you laid, kiddo.
At least you get some kicks out of even more autistic, generic openworld action games.
>Venom
>smoking a real cigar rather than a vape
The one thing I don't love about that gif.
forgot to take your pills again user?
>it was always good
Nope. I was here back in 08. I remember even then how much shit it got for ruining your precious soap opera characters.
And rightfully so with the retcons and the asinine "true" ending.
>but he made money!
Wew. Look back at your own posts just a couple minutes ago when you were saying him making money means jack shit.
M8 MGSV made money because Konami didn't let Kojima get the GTAV-sized budget he was asking for and the many years of dev time he wanted. The game would've raped their finances if they did.
They still fucking gave him $80 million.
And what did he do? He blew a large chunk of it just so he could set up a Moby Dick-themed shell company as part of the marketing and filmed a bunch of trailers that literally misrepresented the game. Bravo, Godjima! I sure regret all my thoughts and deeds now that I see your creative genius!
The irony is that you defend this bullshit even though it was precisely what misled you and left you seething for years because the game didn't meet your expectations.
Holy shit, Kojima. Calm down and have a drink with Mads.
MGS4 is garbage, and I'm probably a more diehard MGS fan than you are.
every fucking time
>Game is a blast from start to finish.
I think this depends on what you mean by "finish" and how deeply any given player will explore the game's content. If you're a completionist MGSV is an absolute chore. Even if you aren't, the game's bloat can wear on you. MGSV's highs (and I would include Ground Zeroes here) are pretty high, but the lows are low indeed. Still a good game (best in the series since MGS3 at least) but it is not consistent.
>I was here back in 08.
So was I.
Yea Forums wept. Movie jokes were had. No one "hated" it.
>Look back at your own posts just a couple minutes ago when you were saying him making money means jack shit.
Clearly your English comprehension skills are on par with some 8-yearolds, so why am I even trying?
The issue is NOT that the game made money.
The problem is the fact that the ORIGINAL CREATORS are not benefiting of that money to full degree, and had to give up their rights to their own work to boot. All this, after not being let to finish it properly.
The success of MGSV also underlines the simple fact that all the "fears" the business fags had were misplaced. The game would have paid back all its costs in spades, like it already did. There was not much content truly MISSING any more, it was just not properly placed and aligned in a sensical or even accessible manner.
>The irony is that you defend this bullshit
Again, your comprehension of written language is marvel of its own. And you keep defending a soulless megacorp, that has now twice brutally killed and mugged one of their underling teams, marking the death of both IPs in the long run.
>I'm probably a more diehard MGS fan than you are.
I believe you when you post your entire MGS collection + a signature of Kojima himself.
And not even that is enough if you follow it up by admitting that a Metal Gear SOLID game of any kind was your first MG game.
Just when I think I found the biggest possible MGS autist there is always bigger one waiting around the corner
Lol no. I'm not defending any mega corporation, you are the one worshipfully defending a man who very much represents that mega corporation no less and who fucked you like the blind bitch you are, but you defend his stupid mistakes and leadership because you see him as a God.
You might want to listen to what the Kojipro devs had to say about working under Kojima with their little tangent in MG Survive. The man was clearly in no way better than the crusty boomers he shared the C-Suite with.
But whatever, keep redirecting and avoiding my argument while you pretend that I'm the one who isn't reading. Keep that little rationalization hamster running in your head as you jump through hoops doing Olympic-level mental gymnastics.
Is the online still filled with cheaters? I remember the only part of the game I enjoyed was infiltrating other peoples bases and even that went to shit once people just teleported in with infinite rockets and health
