how's Doom 3 as a Horror/Survival game?

Pretty fun. For the first 3 hours.

i'd say the first quarter of doom is a survival horror game but once you get actual guns it just turns into a shooter

Its better when you get to the alpha and delta labs. At least there's actual gameplay instead of it being like every other horror game where you just run away from everything and only have a flashlight, and sometimes a camera going from jump scare to jump scare only stopping to read notes.

doom 3 is built around having to spot enemies through sound and light effects or gimp yourself with the flashlight for more visibility. naturally people ignore that and mod an always on flashlight in.

So, would you say it's more or less like Dead Space?

It's like a repeated kick in the balls, while reminding you slightly about classic DOOM, but then punching you in the face once you realize the Cacodemons look like retarded mouth things. At least in DOOM 4 they have managed to get most designs right, and the ones they didn't are being fixed in DOOM 5.

it's something between dead space and half-life

Strong fingers/10

I like how computers and doors worked in doom 3

Spooky

I was actually getting a lot of Dead Space vibes from it when I replayed it this year. Wouldn't doubt Dead Space took some influence from it.

>and the ones they didn't are being fixed in DOOM 5.

imo i don't like how doom 5 is strictly following the original monster designs, that and the way the game is advertised really reeks of boomer pandering.

it's literally a proto Dead Space.
Which is why both are trash.

>i don't like how doom 5 is strictly following the original monster designs,
That is the ONLY thing the piece of shit is doing RIGHT so far. Everything else is exactly the same crap as in 2016, with some shitty Nintentoddler gimmicks tacked on.

Basically It's ok. Don't expect classic Doom gameplay, level design or monster encounters though.
It's a corridor shooter.
Also, never ever purchase the BFG edition. The visuals/performance are fucked and it has no mod support.

Cool at first but then its just boring

It's literally the best game in the series

Doom is a fucking boring series and it going back to its boomer roots is just gonna kill the series again

Doom 3 is actually a good game.

>some shitty Nintentoddler gimmicks tacked on

what, the grappling hook and platforming shit bothered you that much?

It's fun.

Your 30 minutes of internet are up, Timmy. Go do your homework.

should i pirate nu doom or buy for 6 €

If Doom 3 would have

Made ammo much more scarce
Cut down on the jump scares
Cut down on the amount of enemy encounters and monster closets
Had more of a focus on exploration, puzzles, and figuring out where to go

I would have enjoyed it way more as a horror game like it was meant to be in contrast to 1 and 2. It had terrific atmosphere that was hampered by awkward combat that was too frequent. It's fine they went for a horror aesthetic, but they should've went the whole way instead of keeping one foot in the old ones.

by the end of the game most of the jump scares were super predictable

buy. it's a really great game tbqh. not like the OLD doom in anything other than filling the same niche of "fast shooter where you need to be constantly moving"

More like a bunch of millenials who think they're pandering to boomers and are trying to do that but they're really just pandering to zoomers and millenials

the boomer pandering is my favorite aspect

random 30 year old user, just wanna pop in here and say this is a based thread, doom 3 is an all time classic slog of a game, shout out to all the other doom games from times past and going forward, you my bros in this life

This was the first game that had this kind of UI on computers and keypads I believe. I remember being really impressed by being able to interact with the PC's in-game without it bringing up some kind of menu or text box.

Doom 3 is basically Half-Life 1 2.0, so there's horror elements but more as part of the sci-fi package.

Right up until you get something other than a pistol it's exceptionally good, then it's just a fun shooter.

I played Doom 3 a million times and I know for a fact a Hellknight never spawns in that room.
You do fight two of them in that level but it's impossible to fight one there.
