It's a shame that that's the only good part of the game.
4 is the weakest good DMC, but it's still a good DMC. That said I'd probably have a weaker opinion of it if 4SE & 5 didn't exist; 4SE added just enough content for it to be replayable and 5 took what 4 introduced and ran with it in a great way.
I played through the games a lot on the lead up to 5 coming out, but I don't think I'll go back to 4. The level design was weaker then the others (especially M3), none of the bosses were really interesting or fun to fight besides Credo and Berial to a lesser extent, and I came to hate the majority of enemies because of how much they slowed the pace down. Also the whole second half being the first half backwards thing.

I agree with all of that and more (4 Dante has the weakest arsenal of the good DMCs and does shit for damage without abusing Distortion), but I like Trish & LDK mode and a lot of cool shit that's in 5 wouldn't exist if 4 didn't take the steps it did.
I think 4SE is an 8/10 game on the whole but 1, 3/3SE, & 5 are definitely better and Vanilla 4 is like a 7 or 7.5/10. Introducing Nero, having some cool designs, making the Credo fight, and incorporating Style Switching alone does not carry the whole product.
