This game is more fun than it has any right to be.
This game is more fun than it has any right to be
and arguably has a better soundtrack than RBY. Ronald's theme gets me groovin
That first time you card popped a mew
god tier game and soundtrack

I kept the meowth promo card that came with the game in the plastic since I was a lil babby because I thought it would be worth something some day but it's only worth 4 fucking dollars
the generic battle theme doesnt get old either

This game actually taught me how to play the game instead of just looking at the cards like a dumb fucking baby. It was so good and you actually got to walk around and shit. Then the DBZ card game for gameboy advance came out and I thought it was going to be based like this but it was total fucking garbage.
I play this game basically every day on the way to work on my phone
it's severely underrated
Still need to play TCG2 one of these days. Apparently has a fan translation.
Is the online Pokemon TCG worth playing?
No.
It looks like a flash game in comparison
i hate to spout memes, but its soulless.
it does
theres no excuse not to play it right now
In retrospect it was a shitty game I just enjoyed it because of the great music. Aside from the music though I don't think it actually had any real positives.
(You)
I wish i didn't sell my copy back then
Come on man, it's fun to play just because the music is great but realistically it was a really generic card game. Even talking about at the time it released the Yugioh games were better gameplay wise.
What's wrong with the game that's not a flaw of card games in and of themselves?
I remember playing this like 8 years ago. Aren't all of the fights scripted (i.e. the PC will always flip a coin a certain way or something) or am I remembering it wrong?
There's nothing wrong with the game, it's just very basic gameplay. I'm not hating on it I enjoyed it a lot as a kid in just saying the reason I enjoyed it so much was probably the music.
>There's nothing wrong with the game
>In retrospect it was a shitty game
which is it?
How would you guys fixed or improve this game? what I don't like is the rng but is still chill and comfy
This game has threw me into a screaming rage more than once
Good game
Did anyone else feel like if you spammed buttons during the gameplay it would give you shittier coin flips?
card games are inherently RNG
there'd be almost nothing you could do to change it without breaking the genre
unless you mean the card packs
>it's fun to play just because the music is great
ur dumb
you're remembering it wrong. The RNG is stored though, so if you reset a turn to try to get better luck it will always be the same. But it isn't rigged
No it's something like they have a seed so at the start of the fight it chooses everything that's going to happen randomly, but it's randomized every fight. Also it saves during the gameplay so you can't just reset and try to change the outcome.
The only thing I remember being disappointed with was that the world was just a map and you just chose which gyms to go to. If I could have changed anything I'd add walking around more to the different areas just like the actual pokemon games.
Ah that seems right. thanks bros.
More games today should have programming built in like this to fuck savescummers,
Yeah and it's much longer than the first one.
Be honest here. When you played with your pokemon cards at school, did you follow any rules or did you just pick your 5 best cards and compare stats and the one who had the highest stats won? It was pretty retarded but we were too young to understand the rules
>and compare stats and the one who had the highest stats won?
This, but even worse, as I played this type of game with myself.
Nobody fucking played Pokemon cards at my school, me included. We just traded them before they got banned by the school admins.
Play shandalar. It's a million times better, because the card game it's based on is not actually shit.
Our school banned it too, along with marbles because when someone lost they started crying. Luckily it was during my last year at that school.
Tic-tac-toe Is a shitty game and it has no major flaws. Its just too simple, which is what I'm describing with the Pokemon card game. There aren't really any strategies or anything like that to the game. You just load your deck up with the strongest cards you have and hope you draw well.
>and it has no major flaws.
tic-tac-toe always goes into a tie if two players know what they're doing
theres only a winner if youre playing against a literal child
that's a huge flaw of the game
pokemon tcg has strategies, sure you could make a haymaker deck and pick the 3 strongest cards and fill the rest with draw power, but you could also play a do the wave deck, a rain dance deck, etc etc

Man this song is awesome
there was a fucking sequel?
I'm sure that the actual card game has plenty of strategy and depth but the video game was very basic.
the videogame is literally the first set of the physical card game. It's not going to be as deep as the modern sets.
i listed 3 of the popular meta decks, which are strategies too
All I ever said was that I think it's bad gameplay wise because it's too simple but that it's still a fun experience because of the great soundtrack. I'm done with this argument now because it's dumb and going in circles.
dbz card game was based but the video games sucked
yep, japan exclusive, though. There's an english translation patch now, though. There's no excuse to NOT play it now.
