Best designed maybe and even that’s subjective. Making a redemption arc for a character that wasn’t even evil screams melodramatic, and Zeromus killed the tension that would’ve come from fighting Golbez due to it completely redeeming Golbez in like 2 text boxes. Kuja and Zidane are way better to be honest.

FF1 in Dawn of Souls (and probably other remakes) has such bad gameplay for such soulful sprites.

FF1 was an actually very competent attempt to recreate a AD&D campaign in virtual form, it's actually on par, if not better in certain ways to most classic D&D games of the time.
FF2 was a decent but misguided attempt at making a Ultima game with a brand new building system and combat that didn't suck, but it was too ambitious for its time and the inexperience of the designers, so it turned out so so, in retrospect it gave us the SaGa series, which is excellent, so it's worth of praise at least for that.

The rest of the series is uninspired, moviegame garbage made by a bunch of people randomly hired for each entry by a "director" that couldn't make a game to save his life in not one but two companies, so the best thing he could manage was copy other games without any sort of game design ambition outside of making money through graphix.
This lead to the series never building up a real identity for itself outside of the size of the budget wasted on graphics, cutscenes and general cinematics, which in turn lead to a fragmented, histerical and completely deluded fanbase where the height of the average argument is "MUH FAVORITE FF IS BETTER THAN YOURS" despite all of them being the same exact garbage with the same exact flaws people accuse other entries of.
FF is a stillborn "franchise", if it can be even called that since to this day nobody knows what exactly makes a Final Fantasy games, especially given how FF faggots are more than eager to call other franchises like Bravely Default or Lost Odyssey FF games.

Why are you in every FF thread if you don't like FF? I mean I guess you played every game in the series, so you can reasonably say you hate every game, but why waste your time actively going on threads for a series you completely hate?

Also FF had a very clear and undeniable unity in gameplay and experience 1-6, just as tight as DQ imo and it's very clear if you play these games one after another where they all feel very samish in several aspects, you can argue that the series went irrelevant after that (with an exception of 9 at least) but you can never ever convince me that there was never an identity even in the NES/SNES era since I played those games.

DS version has some difficulty to it, and voice acting if you want that. Can be debatable if it's the best version

1-3 plays the same with minor adjustments and 4-9 is just ATB with a twist or two because each game has a specific mechanic. Its not until 10 when they started to make each game drastically different gameplay wise and even then X-2 til XIII-2 are still fundamentally ATB with a twist. FF's biggest problem with gameplay has always been that its insultingly easy as a series once as long as you pay attention.

Learn what antagonist actually means (hint: it does not mean "Final Boss").

A zoomer who doesnt cheat by looking at a guide and is fresh to the series will have a really tough time playing the classic final fantasy titles. VI might be the only one a zoomer could beat in that type of setup.

FF4 has:

1. Best Final Boss Battle
2. Most balanced gameplay content overall
3. Best version of the combat engine to actually play in the moment and not just the place where you see the results of your build/meta/whatever.
4. Best-paced game (assuming you aren't playing one of the shitty remakes)

Also, not exclusive to IV but:
5. Clear and straightforward story that gets interesting right away, slows down in the middle a bit but then has a really great climax to setup the endgame, which ends in a suitably fantastic other-worldly realm.
6. Fantastic aesthetics and visual detail given the time period and hardware for the game. One thing not often noticed is how so many background and environments in the game have some sort of animation, whether it's a torch on the wall, rippling water, or glowing lights.

IV is very easy to get into without a guide. In fact it's probably one of the easiest given that your party is always controlled by the game. You start out with two fighters 10 levels ahead of all the enemies you face to introduce the basic combat (battles last like 30 seconds so you get to see the gameplay loop very quickly). Kain has the jump attack that has an ATB delay to introduce that. And then you get your first magic user and by then you should have figured out pretty much everything you need to know.

Nah ff4 gates off enemy encounters and if a zoomer were to play mt ordeals they would get stuck there for many hours or give up. Basically anytime the game gates off the easier encounters is when new players would have trouble with it. Especially zoomers who cant sit still for more than 10 minutes at a time.
