When did you realize Dark Souls 3 is the best Dark Souls game?
When did you realize Dark Souls 3 is the best Dark Souls game?
Never
when i entered an alternate timeline that made the game more than an uninspired slog of putrid shit
but that hasn't happened yet
Why?
Does a game need to be innovative to be good, even within its own series? I thought DaS3 did a lot of refinement. Art direction is very good, level design is great and rewarding, and the combat is fun. It has some the best bosses in the series. PvP is also very good, far less netcode issues than its predecessors.
all it did better are some graphics and animations. everything else is markedly worse than the rest of the series. the levels are all hallways and the combat is unengaging roll spam and r1 spam
It was trash you pleb
>Art direction is very good, level design is great and rewarding, and the combat is fun. It has some the best bosses in the series.
Yes
>PvP is also very good
Sure
>far less netcode issues than its predecessors.
It's about the same desu.
>all it did better are some graphics and animations
I don't really care about the graphics as FROM's games look very dated relative to their releases, but I do think the art direction is the best in the Dark Souls series. And making animations look good is important for the game feel.
> the levels are all hallways
No? There's better individual level design in many cases, and certainly more so than DaS2's. Not only that, but the exploring them felt rewarding too, like finding new weapons, embers, gems, or estus shards.
>unengaging roll spam and r1 spam
What don't understand is that the other games also utilize rolling and using the R1 as the best and most foolproof method of beating these games, only DaS3 is a little faster. Why is this not criticized in the other games?
That's your opinion. I don't think I'll ever understand why people will put DaS2 over the other games.
Oops. Meant for
DS3 is just a fanservice cashgrab while DS2 actually tried to move the plot forward
remember the Undead at the end of SotFS that couldnt hollow because of the Crowns, Myasaky just washed over it because he is a hack
when ringed city came out
he became wolnir you stupid fuck
lmao who cares about story
>DS3 is just a fanservice cashgrab while DS2 actually tried to move the plot forward
But DaS3 does move the plot forward. We learn what life is like after all these successive relinkings of the fire and the state of the world. We learn how the abyss was contained by warriors who modelled themselves after Artorias. We learn how Gwyndolin became a more confident leader before Pontiff took control. Lots of little details like that. I don't think DaS2 ever built on anything.
I think it was a nice love letter to the series as a whole, especially the fight with Gael.
What was your favorite boss? Mines is obviously Gael.
>. We learn how the abyss was contained by warriors who modelled themselves after Artorias. We learn how Gwyndolin became a more confident leader before Pontiff took control
all fanservice pointing to DS1, just like the painted world and more daughters of Gwynn
DS2 showed the world where humans ruled alone, the gods were no longer around to "sheperd the humans" and now humanity had to deal with Fading of the Fire by itself
> the gods were no longer around to "sheperd the humans" and now humanity had to deal with Fading of the Fire by itself
This is what is happening in DaS3 as well. The gods are nowhere to be found, except for a few who are a far cry from Gwyn's pantheon, vestiges of a bygone era like Gwyn's Son and Rosaria. Even the serpents are gone. Only the most powerful of humans or other hominids were capable, like Aldrich and Yhorm, to take the mantle of sacrifice. It is strictly up to humans and the rest of the lessers of the world if they want to live in a perpetually decaying world of flame or to embrace an age of dark.
I like the souls games. The worlds have such a great sense of mystery and intrigue to them. Great Atmosphere too.
I don't know if it's the best, but I have recently replayed them and I found 3 to be overall the better product. Levels are good, bosses are fantastic and the combat is as responsive as it can get. I do agree that I would have liked some bosses to focus less on you dodging several times in a row, but in the grand scheme of things it's not too much of a problem.
The game is also quite consistent in its quality, it never really goes as long as Dark 1 is in its worst zones.
The DLCs are also fantastic addendums and both Midir and Gael were such a nice goodbye to the series I just couldn't be unhappy with them.
It’s very clearly the worst of all the souls games, das2 did a lot of things wrong but at least it had ambition
I care more about the quality of the final product than how "ambitious" they were. Would you consider Sekiro to be ambitious too?
>level design is good
Some individual levels are okay but almost all of them are too streamlined or small, and the WORLD design is abysmal
>combat is fun
worst combat of any souls game, weapon arts were a waste and there aren’t enough unique ones, stamina management was fucked and every boss turned into an endless rollfest. Also they got rid of power stance for no fucking reason
>some good bosses
I’ll give you that
>best pvp
they completely fucked the invasions, if your a discord arena autist you probably like it, which explains a lot honestly
Did you mean easiest?
>every boss turned into an endless rollfest
Not him, but after all the crying that people were using shields, moving the focus on dodging seems to be the natural step. At times I don't really know what the community wants.
at release
>start the game
>move your character and dodge once
>gone is the terrible, floaty feeling of 2
>game is already the best after ten seconds
In some ways, Sekiro made significant strides in improving the general philosophy behind combat in the games, and the verticality definitely helped evolve level design. The quality between 2 and 3 aren’t as disparate as you’re acting like they are and quite frankly 3, by virtue of doing nothing new/interesting/exciting outside of a few moments is the worse game. The ringed city was a good DLC, ashes was not, and it has the least replayability of any of them
It's really not though. If anything, it makes you appreciate DaS2 more.
It isn’t about that, I haven’t used shields since my first time playing DS1, I prefer the roll-style, but the lack of stamina management made it too easy, in bloodborne stamina refills damn near instantly but you take a lot more damage and enemies are largely more aggressive, the balance wasn’t there in 3
Isn't pic the new secret gwyn's daughter?
Yeah, that's why it sucks
When did you realize Dark Souls as a series is overhyped and mediocre?
When you told me
Thank you for enlightening me
I must ask you to excuse me. Please return to your subreddit of englightenment while I ruminate on this.
>Please return to your subreddit of englightenment while I ruminate on this
user Dark Souls is a reddit series. LIKING it makes you reddit, not the other way around.
Gameplay wise it's the best because it's the closest to Bloodborne.
Level design and atmosphere-wise, the first one was better.
Why is From steering away from online play with their latest titles though? It's the only reason I replayed so many of their previous games but not Sekiro.
How new are you pal?
No, thats Bloodborne
>The game is also quite consistent in its quality, it never really goes as long as Dark 1 is in its worst zones.
I agree. I feel like the game never overstayed its welcome either. DaS2 has a ton of content, but much of that content just doesn't compliment well with the gameplay. It even gets significantly better after the halfway point.
Again, does a game really need to innovate when it can polish already existing mechanics that work well?
>Some individual levels are okay but almost all of them are too streamlined or small
I disagree. Many of the individual levels are massive. Take Undead Settlement for instance. I do agree however, that the checkpoint system is very much flawed and make the game feel much smaller.
>weapon arts were a waste and there aren’t enough unique ones
I heavily disagree. It was a very good addition to the combat and opens up a multitude of true combo potentials, like an R1 following up into a successful weapon art, or doing only one half of a weapon art to delay an R1 and roll catch opponents. Some initiate infinite poise for a brief duration. There's honestly way too many to state.
>stamina management was fucked
I honestly disagree. I thought it perfectly complemented enemy aggression. Some bosses even punish excessive rolling anyway, like the Dancer and NK.
>they completely fucked the invasions, if your a discord arena autist you probably like it, which explains a lot honestly
Absolutely not. I always play invasions and never do duels, there's already a duel arena for people like them. The gankfests are initiated by no nothing hosts that are incredibly incompetent and you can easily handle them. Plus, you aren't always the lone invader.
She's very cute though.
Its "souls" games in general.
been here longer then you, faggot.
It's enjoyable, but still far behind dark souls 1 and demons souls.
The main problems I have are the linear world design, too much focus on melee to the detriment of everything else, the mana system, and most importantly the fact that the game completely axes the old mindset of "your actions have consequences so make them count" in favor of a gameplay style where you're just haphazardly spamming rolls and R1s.
Nah sorry bro
Snoys will disagree
I never did. It's the best series of third person ARPGs I've ever played.
For all this talk of "reddit games", Yea Forums's favorite games are not that different to that of most forums (like Reddit) and vidya aggregators. Souls is inherently one of them as well.
You sound like you go on reddit a lot
I've never posted on Reddit. I'm a newfag though.
Oh and another thing regarding invasions, you need to do some problem solving to leverage the "unfair" host advantage. You need to have verticality and the environment in mind. The environment is an inherently useful tool.
about 2 hours in, the whole first area is amazing (after the tutorial zone)
I hope you're enjoying it. Personally, I think the game significantly picks up past a certain swamp area around the midway point.
It was fun for a while for PvP. Not much more.
I can understand that. Franchise fatigue is a thing after all.
>Franchise fatigue
Yeah... if the new games in the franchise are shit, like DaS2 and 3
Ringed City.
I loved the game all the way through, and being a lore nerd the payoff of that last DLC was huge.
Got shivers when I found the statue of Gwyn gifting the Cloranthy ring to the hollow and Gael is the best boss fight I have ever witnessed. Bless Miyazaki's soul.
I think they're solid games, both DaS2 and DaS3. You're just bored of the series one game in.
Dark Souls Greatest Hits is the worst Dark Souls game I don't even care that this is bait.
I find the first one really difficult to replay for some reason. I don't have this problem with DaS2 or 3.
Still fantastic game though, imo.
lmao no
Is the best ? i dont kow
Is the one that made me rage the most ? Yes absolutely , some of those boses are just BS.
they all good, scholar was peak, dont reply to me
Here's my tip: get the claymore from the High Wall and then infuse it with a refined gem from the blue knight outside of Vordt's arena, and just upgrade it as much as possible. You will never complain again.
>Gwyn is normal-sized
>Sons are normal-sized
>Daughters are gigantic
>Daughters are gigantic
Even better.
After I was putting in 700 hours.
It isn't
As per DS1, if the First Flame fades, it’s done permanently and a new age starts. DS3 fucked everything up by making it cyclic and allowing the flame to return once more.
did you post a niggers arm for like size perspective or something most people just use a quarter. although i guess you "quartered" that nigger well enough haha! well done!
DaS1 is your favorite, I imagine?
I don't recall us burning ourselves would permanently restore the flame and Gwyn's age of fire. The fact that the fire needed to be restored after Gwyn sacrificed himself is enough of an indicator that reigniting the flame has always been a cycle.

I unironically prefer Dark Souls 2. 1 is cool, 3 is shitty, disappointing, and derivative of 1. Level design sucks, most bosses suck, choir overload in the soundtrack, bland DLC, piss poor build variety and weapons compared to 2. This game can fuck off and die.
Nowhere in DS1 is it implied that there was another Age of Fire that preceded this one. In fact the Age of the Dragons only occurred once, meaning the ages weren’t cyclical after all.
Le no le u le based le post
>Level design sucks
Not really, as I've stated in the thread.
>most bosses suck, choir overload in the soundtrack, bland DLC
Again, this is just your subjective opinion, but many people agree that DaS3 has some of the best bosses in the Dark Souls series, excluding Bloodborne. The Ringed City is 2nd only to The Old Hunters. At times I do think the OST is overbearing and nowhere as good as say BB's or certain tracks in DaS1, but it's still pretty good in many instances, like the Abyss Watchers, Pontiff, and Geal.
>piss poor build variety and weapons
There's far more weapon variety than DaS1 or DeS. Sure, it's less than DaS2, but then again even the weapon arts can compensate that. Also, best pyromancy in the entire series.
Okay, maybe other ages of fire never preceded the one we make when we sacrifice ourselves to the flame. So what? The flame was already dying by the time we arrive, and we reinvigorate it. If this is the nature of the flame, then it was bound to be cyclical.
The numbers don't lie OP
Funnily enough III made me like II more
user im sorry... you're gonna need to go back
After 200 hours across all games. 3 was the one I went back to the most. Doesn't matter if it's more linear, it just feels the best to play. Every single god damn weapon is satisfying as fuck to use.
Base gameplay wins at the end, hands down. I love the fuck out of 2 but 3 is my favorite these days.
Also, fuck Ariandel. Best area out of any Souls game. It's just too beautiful, too filled with little things, too atmospheric and has the best boss fight of all time.
Man, I played through DaS3 the whole way and I barely remember any of the actual levels
Why do Vordt and Dancer come out of portals at the beginning of their fight?
To each their own. I value many things in Souls that are present and improved upon in DaS3, which is why I consider it the best one imo.
Ariandel got a seriiously bad rep because it was sold as a seperate DLC. But it's a beautiful area, I really loved how the wolves acted like wolves too.
You weren't awestruck by Irithyll? I thought that was a pretty cool sight. Just wished the city was a little larger, like Undead Settlement.
This whole thread is opinion based nigger. I'll give my reasons for my preference and you give yours. Don't try to being that dumbass "wElL tHatS SubJeCTIve!!1!" Bullshit in here.
I think the level design sucks, the bosses leave something to be desired, the music is generic and frequently blends together in my head because it's mostly the same type of choir used over and over, and weapon arts are shit and do in no way make up for the lack of build diversity or power stance.
When did you realize you had brain damage?
When i was a tasteless rube in some parallel universe
>newest game has largest playerbase
IMAGINE MY SHOCK
When I played it for the first time.
>Still going with the new game excuse even though the game is 3 years old
cope harder
>says Da3's art direction sucks
>prefers DaS2
what did the tasteless retard mean by this?
Learn to read. I didn't say a single thing about art direction. I'd say that's one of the best things about 3. Too bad looks aren't everything.
I did give reasons as to why I have my preferences for DaS23 over 2. I think the art direction, bosses, individual level design, and combat in DaS3 makes it better.
I'm perfectly sane and healthy, thanks.
A parallel universe where the game is bad?
I think the mmo look to ds2 is part of the appeal. Playing ds2 online co-oped is basically better than any mmo ever because it has dark souls. You really have to judge it as a slightly different genre than ds1.
Ds1=cod4
Ds2=black ops/waw
Ds3=mw2
I've been giving it another shot, right now I'm up to Smouldering Lake/Demon Ruins which is probably the single worst stretch of the entire franchise.
>Smouldering Lake/Demon Ruins
Definitely a low point. The ballista is fucking annoying and whoever put crabs there deserve to be kicked in the testicles. But it is relatively short, you'll be able to get out there very quickly.
agree about the wolves, but they feel easier to fight than dogs. theyre way too passive
What did the YouTuber cum licking cuck mean by this
I didn’t because it isn’t.
If anything I notice more youtubers praising DS2 because most of them are invaders or pvpfags.
