I never ever understood TF2's inventory/loot system.
I played for 265 hours and never opened any loot boxes, because I had no idea how to get them. I occassionally got a key, and from what I could tell I could pay to get a box? Seems like a waste of money.

Unusuals are rare and very expensive. New update had a bug that gives them a 100% drop rate for $3 (1 key). For reference, some unusuals are worth up to 500 keys in trade.

you can buy a mtx key for 2.49 to open the crate and have a 1% chance at an "unsual" hat (thunder, flames etc)

They have like a 1% chance of getting a unusual hat which is valuable

TF2's economy is barter based (though a crafting metal is used as a currency but it's very inflated in value), so people use unusual hats and various others rare items to trade with

Unusual hats could go from maybe $50 for a simple one to $2000 or so for really rare and special ones

Valve fucked up and made the lootboxes give unusual hats to everyone if you open it for a certain series of crates (the original set of crates that were released early in the lifecycle of crates) and two of the newer crates

This jumped the original crate prices which were very worthless like in pennies, to being sold for 10-20$ each and they were very common drops, so if you somehow held on to your crates till now, you can sell it off for a lot of steam bux.

Every crate (cosmetic loot box) you open in TF2 has a 1% chance of containing an expensive and rare cosmetic with a particle effect on it, ranging from flames to electricity and other crazy shit like hearts etc.

A rogue employee changed some things in cs go, tf2, and dota 2 last week with only tf2 getting an update. He got fired today.
We caught it in cs go and dota 2 but we didn't know what was happening when we saw the tf2 bug.
We don't know what we are going to do yet. Just don't unbox anymore since people who are exploiting the bug is going to get community banned at least. Only people who unboxed more than one of the bugged crates will get community banned. There might be a reward to people who didn't abuse the exploit. Valve is conflicted about deleting the hats right now.

go to your inventory go to tf2, look at all of your crates, the shit ones are worth like 2p, the ones worth a lot more than that are the ones you want.
Click sell down in the bottom right, say they sell for £20 put it at say 19.90 if you want a quick sell, press sell and then bam.
