Technology fucked us. Every generation up to the PS2 got us strides in game design that was only possible due to the increasing specs. Afterwards, graphics got better but there was nothing to do for gameplay that you couldn't already do. This wouldn't be bad if you could just keep making new games with graphics, but development costs rose accordingly to the growth of specs. Game devs can't afford to release ambitious titles without meeting the current standards or people will pass up on trying perfectly good, relatively ugly genres. Game devs can't afford to experiment much so they miss out on masterpieces they might have in mind to release safer titles.

I was a kid when consoles started becoming a thing and its hilarious to see how games that were considered mediocre visually back then are getting praised as the best now despite Yea Forums hating current games if they look like shit also. In 10 years the same thing will happen to games people hate now for the visuals, which are pretty much most Nintendo games.

Im a huge Nintendo fan and i think it is something pretty inarguable, but that just showcases the overall great impact Nintendo has and had on the Industry even in eras it was doing poorly.

Also doesn't mean every game accused of getting it is bad either, it is more of "is it really THAT good?", a good example is BotW, a game that can easily be defined as "It only works once" since the emphasis is on Exploration and Discovery, and you can only Discover something once, as result many reviewers put it as "The Best" while still riding on the intial high, even though several other games, including older Zeldas, offer better replay value, yet scored worse.

So my point is that you really shouldn't give a fuck about reviews anyway, Nintendo ones just more so because Reviewers tend to get even more passionate about those due the influences of the company.

Exactly, but one should also keep in mind the Context, ergo the Nintendogs review which blatantly got a high score because the average Japanese living standard isn't exactly pet-friendly, so a portable Pet-Simulator had emotional value for people who wanted a pet but cannot have one. Hence the perfect score for a game that is nowhere near perfect.

These map themes alone make it a 7/10 at worst, fell in love with that track that starts playing on the Tomas chapter. Finally a solid OST in a series with wholly forgettable music.
