Can we take the time to appreciate these handhelds?

What a way to end a generation. It’s unlikely Nintendo will make a 3DS successor (although the Switch lite seems to be it) and it’s very very unlikely Sony will make another dedicated handheld. I own both and hacked, they’re the best as they’re backwards compatible with all their predecessors. With the 3DS, you have Nintendo’s rich handheld library and with the Vita, you can play PSP and PS1 games. Both handhelds are capable of running emulators with varying degrees of success. Not to mention the huge lexicon of homebrew that allows you to tweak and customise.

Both are amazing systems with a unique character and different library of games. Many game franchises have a Sony version and Nintendo version, bringing variety from an era when multiplatforms were actually different.

I have no intention of ever buying a playstation again but if Sony releases another handheld, I definitely would. Until then, looks like Nintendo will be getting a lot of the kino AA jap games that the Vita got.

Why do you have no intention to buy another playstation?

It'll be a real shame if Nintendo lets the DS line die here because the dual-screen is one of the most innovative system designs, imo. Even when it isn't being utilized to its full potential, at the very least it always made for some great user interfaces.

I don't own a Vita, but I do plan to buy a used one eventually so I can hack it.

The wii u killed the dual screen concept

not him, but if you are interested in the kind of games he was just describing you would know that sony is censoring them. personally i dont want another playstation because they have shit exclusives compared to the glory days of ps2/3 and I prefer xbox controllers

I really desperately wanna pick up a Vita, but everywhere is so goddamn expensive. The console was a failed product. Why is it selling for $150 used and $300+ new?

Their focus just isnt with Japanese games anymore which I gravitate to. If they made another handheld, naturally more Japanese games would gravitate to it. The ps4 just really left a bad taste in my mouth with Sony. (The ps3 was already underwhelming compared to the ps1/ps2 as it is). I liked Gravity Rush 2. And Ys 8 and Project Sakura Wars are coming out soon and those titles interest me, but that's literally only 1 exclusive that's out for the ps4 right now that I actually liked, 6 years into the consoles lifespan. It's just not for me anymore.

>The console was a failed product. Why is it selling for $150 used and $300+ new?
user, some of the biggest failure consoles are the most expensive. It's a lack of supply that pumps up the value. Look at the Saturn.

Ys 9**** my bad

Same. If Sony released another handheld I would buy it in a heartbeat.

It's hard to support Sony with their current practices, and besides that, the type of games you would buy a Sony handheld for have been getting released on Switch lately.

I don't think that i would buy another playstation but maybe i would if it's fully comaptible with all the playstations but what i would definitely not buy is another handheld by them. At least if it's not successful. I bought a vita straight away after liking psp so much and preferring it to ds (even thought ds is great) and was massively dissapointed. I especailly hate it's UI with dumb bubbles, 10s android design that looks old now and that they don't even change the "livearea" games since 2015 or something. It still has the awful resident evil revelations advertised lmao
After buying new 3ds to compensate for vita (i was playing on ipad mini for some time after vita thinking that handhelds are dead but after switch got announed i instantly bought 3ds, plus phone games got worse at that time), i could say that 3ds is amazing and vita sucks ball. Soul sacrifice is pretty great though. Also liked wipeout, sound shapes, tearaway but they are available on other consoles.

>wii u killed the dual screen
This, but also cause there just was enough of that gimmick already. Also, ds has like 4 version of itself with dsi being it's own thing and 3ds having 6 versions.

reminder that there are people on Yea Forums and likely in this thread right now that haven't hacked their consoles.

what's your excuse?

Who knows. They bought everything they wanted? I kinda did that with vita cause after 2014 there were barely anything of value anyways, but i still hacked it to play psp games, even though i could still play them on psp.

the 3ds scene has been garbage since sighax killed corbenik and trannyfw became mandatory

The 3DS? Yes. The Vita? God no. The PSP dabs on its grave.

Anyone got a list of recommended PSP games? My charger died a long time ago but after a weird dream today telling me to buy another charger i went and bought it, still yet to arrive but outside of replaying Ace Combat X and Disgaea 2 i don't have many plans for it. Maybe some dungeon crawlers would be nice since i only got into them with Etrian Odyssey after my charger died so i didn't try any of them on the PSP

7th dragon 2020 maybe?

The main 3ds gimmick is 3d, not a whole lot of 3ds games even use touchscreen except for menus and shit. Also that pic is ultimate cringe. Also wii didn't have that much of good games, it's mostly shovelware.

I have both my 3DSes hacked and my Vita hacked.
I'll hack my Switch when a revision releases that is actually worth buying.

Wrong on every account.

My personal recommendations: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, ZHP Unlosing Ranger, Dissidia 012, Final Fantasy 4, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, Megaman Powered Up.

Everything i said is objective.

I like the 3DS, but the Vita just blows it out of the water for me

How, you like cheap jrpgs or what

better emulator, and adrenaline makes it a psp with a better d pad

What can vita emulate that psp cannot? And i like psp d pad more, vita one just has a nice click, otherwise buttons and joysticks are too small and i have small hands.

its the same as a psp except it can play its own games too like metal gear and the other hd collections. the point is how it is a better console than the 3ds

Vita d pad is unironically the greatest d pad ever made. Playing MvC3 on it was a joy

>own games
Hd collections are nice, is that a reason to like it more than 3ds? I hated the vita while liked 3ds a LOT.
Weird cause i hated play 2d games on that. Psp d pad is closer original dualschock.

>Psp d pad is closer original dualschock.
And that's exactly why I didnt like it. Different strokes for different folks I guess

Yeah, vita d pad and buttons are clsoer to 3ds in a clickiness sense. Yet the still click more than 3ds.
