Yes, it's technically a third person shooter/brawler, but the amount of cutscenes is so crazy that you barely get to play the actual game. It's more of a VN in that respect. The dialog is really good too, so IMO it's worth playing.

alright, what think of the third case of v3? i thought it was the worst in the series so far, theres no reason for him to have killed 2 people, and his cage plan would only work if one person was dead already, why would he plan that if he didn't knew who to summon? Also theres no fucking way that cage thing would work. Tojo being the president was already very stupid, kiyo fucking his ghost sister and wanting go get 100 ghostbook friends was the most retarded motive they could think of. And theres no reason to make the rule about only the first killer being punished if its the same person that killed both of them. And theres the part where keebo takes a picture and only shows you later, its not the first time a character hides an important clue for far later in the trial,

Honestly, same reason why the culprit of case 2 had to make that ropeway and transport the body. Just so that you would have a trail of breadcrumbs and catch them. Because it's a video game duh. Also the third case in each game is a double murder committed by a single person, that trope was expected.

I fell hook, line and sinker for her basically being shoved into my face and then watching her get killed off just as quickly. Ultimately I stopped playing the game because I ended up spending half a day at my PC playing through chapters and it just wore me down mentally. Perhaps I went in a bit too seriously, I literally had a text file of notes to see if I could connect the dots for each of the murders that happened and notes on the characters to see if I could trust their ass or not.
Ultimately, I understand the appeal, but it's either not for me or I burnt myself out way too hard on it to the point of being unable to pick it up any more.

it's good if you want to know more about the lore (there's a fuckton of hidden shit too), the story and character interactions are also pretty good. gameplay is kind of shitty but I did have fun once I got more skills and guns (played on hardest mode). I say, get it on sale

There are """collectibles""" but I can't remember their actual use beyond giving Monocoins (or giving you achievements if you're into that (I was, but I haven't played in a while))
In fact now that I think about it, I don't even remember if UDG comes with an unlockable gallery (it probably does).
There are no multiple endings (as far as I remember) but you get a cool novel featuring Hagakure once you finish it (it's unironically good).

When I beat chapter 1 it ranked my performance, mostly how many kid badges I collected (got all 5) and how many challenge rooms did I clear perfectly (only got 4 out of 5). I guess this shit doesn't matter though.
However, one of the tutorials said that "that person" will judge how you get through the game, I guess they meant Makoto.

It's a crazy experience and I'd say it has the most consistently good writing the in the series. It's more atmospheric and grounded in real dark shit than the main games with their wacky bullshit and obsession with ideals, which I think serves it well for most of the game but makes the finale kind of underwhelming in comparison to the insanity that the other games build up to. Still a great time and the very very end is 10/10.
