I never really grew up with Crash and only got into it with the N. Trilogy and thought most of the characters beyond N. Brio and Coco either looked lame or just didn't look good with the realistic toon style but they all have grown on me since.

All the CNK characters improved, but Geary, who started out as a bland Ratchet and Clank joke, somehow got even MORE boring.
To this day i treat most if not all the CTR and onward characters as a joke. So no.
I like Geary better, making his split personality more pronounced makes him more fun, his voice is less annoying and effeminate, and I like how they played up his "robot supremacist" attitude.

After Naughty Dog, the series takes a visible slope, and While I think Crash Bash and CNK are good editions to the series, its undeniable that after CTR the series started to decline.
Twinsanity on its own is an ok game, but personally I feel like this was the game that lead Crash to its death. Twinsanity changed the gameplay too radically, and the following games took more from what was different in Twinsanity than what was traditional, which lead to two piles of garbage called Crash of the Titans and Mind over Mutant, which I dont care how much you like these games, they are trash in gameplay, visuals, writing etc.

You can tell Papu Papu was designed (more polished) up to be a more genuine and down-to-earth character by someone who probably is into characters with body types like his. When a character is done with love, it shows. Before, he just looked like your infamous exaggerated cartoony character, but if you compare him to other characters like Dr. Cortex, N. Gin and other humans, he turned out unusually far more realistic than anyone else while still having exaggerated complexes you'd usually find in cartoon shows (quick-tempered grumpy man, big eater). Before, he was just grumpy and you never really get to know him much besides his boss fight in the original and his appearance in the original CTR, which you get to know only slightly more of.
