you're missing the point. Very few people have that sort of nen ability to begin with. Netero had a fucking bomb shoved up his ass too, it wasn't nen. There's literally nothing stopping any hunter in the series to place a post mortem condition on themselves, but it has to do something with their own nen ability. For example, vacuum lady could theoretically be able to suck herself up after she dies - with her vacuum appearing after her heart stops beating.
Hisoka's gum appeared after his death and did nothing that was unable to do beforehand (while he was alive). Hardly an asspull if you can live with le oxygen brain. But that's just my 2 cents, i don't even consider myself a huge hxh fan. I just like to read it desu

O MY SEVEN QUIRKS has the potential to be worse (You know he's going to get his ass saved by another quirk awakening down the line) but O MY RUBBER NEN was a much bigger asspull from a story standpoint because instead of just giving a character a platter of powers in a life or death situation, it literally saved a character from dying in an inescapable scenario in a way that made no logical or physical sense.

Story hasn't really felt like it was about Gon since Greed Island. Even then, that was preceded by Yorknew, which was definitely not about Gon.

Probably because Netero's suicide nuke was thematically appropriate after the story swerved into making Meruem much more reasonable and sympathetic after everyone goes wrong for him in the final stretch of the Chimera Ant arc. The fight wasn't about the future of humanity or measuring power levels between Meruem and Netero, it was about how Meruem's dealing with his newfound empathy and willingness to avoid violence against Netero who wanted to destroy the ants at any cost. So the asspull doesn't sting as much because it leads the story to a good place while highlighting characters instead of being purely about Nen powers or tactics or anything else. The bomb being cheaply made and mass produced does annoy me though, but I can also see how that's an intentional choice the author made.

I'd say the worst part about O MY 7 QUIRKS isn't its nature as an asspull. I don't agree with defenders who say it was clearly foreshadowed but in the end it's not a huge leap in logic, plus its reveal was during an unimportant class exercise that had nothing to do with the main plot up until that moment, so the asspull wasn't used to resolve anything.

Its potential to fuck the series up irreparably is infinitely high though, and very likely to happen. Side characters are already getting shafted to hell so you can only imagine how bad it will get when Deku is running around with multiple powerful quirks on top of his main power while Rape Grape remains throwing sticky balls at people.
