Companies don't want to run the risk of something else taking time away from their first week release sales. Anything could grab attention, so the less things released in a small window, the better. It doesn't matter after the purchase has already been made though, which is why the week after is fair game.

Of course they would still get it, that's not the point. Companies are obsessed with first week sales to the point that anything past that is considered an abject failure. Almost everyone that was interested in the DLC for Smash has already gotten the Fighter's pass, instead of waiting to purchase them individually. The issue comes with taking attention away from an upcoming major release. You can't say shit like.

No shit. Learn how business speculate and extrapolate potential sales and their losses. It's better to eliminate potential sources of loss, instead of just assuming that people will get both. Assumptions like that are dangerous. This is the very reason why various third parties left Nintendo in the first place, because they felt like they stood no chance competing with Nintendo's games and why Nintendo had to specifically delay their games to appease them. It didn't matter if this was actually the case or not, maybe people were still purchasing both regardless, or even ignoring Nintendo's offerings entirely. But to those companies, they couldn't take that chance. Nintendo does, to this day, spread out even their own releases to not fuck with each other.
Business decisions like this make far more sense then one autistic game creator REEEEEEEEEEEing about a video giving away the release month of DLC, a video which would have been made at least a month before and who's content would have been approved for release.

The only thing weird is how fucking slow they are to release characters. It's been almost 8 months since Ultimate came out and they have only released one character. This shit is suppose to be wrapped up by February of next year. Every other Nintendo game with DLC was able to get it out in 9 months so what the fuck is wrong with Smash Bros.

It might have to do with the fact characters are released with major updates. Joker was released alongside stage builder and the entire smash content thing. I think they scaled down the smash team to something stupidly small.
